Square-Enix recently released the mobile ports of Dragon Quest 1-3 on Switch.
I think the best you can hope for is for S-E to bring the mobile ports of FF1-FF6 to Switch as well.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,247 games (as of April 15th, 2024)

@NinChocolate I think the older FF titles may eventually come to NSO or be released in a stand alone collection. But we've had no hints whatsoever that I know of.

They've released FF4 on 4 different platforms. They clearly do consider those important.
I do think if we see any other ports though, it'll probably be FF13 first of all.
Only in very occasional and vague allusions. I think at one point they mentioned that after FF7 remake, they might like to try remaking FF6 as well. But it was clearly a "possibly at some point in the distant future" type thing, so I wouldn't hold your breath.
Yeah, I thought something very vague about that had been said but not yet anything definite Think there's more than enough people who would like the earlier games, on Switch, though. Both like me to replay them conveniently & newcomers to the series as
Well, I mean, VI is consistently touted as the best in the franchise, so it'd be weird if it ceased being in circulation.
I'd like to think we'll get the likes of FFVI and, especially, Chrono Trigger on the Switch, eventually. I have FFVI on the SNES mini and will get around to it soon. Tried it once, about a decade ago, and came away very impressed. As for Chrono Trigger, I tried playing the mobile port and, well, the controls are weird on a touchscreen. I also have the Steam version, which reportedly sucked upon release but has — also reportedly — been patched since then. Still, it'd feel better to play it on a Nintendo device, at least for a first-time playthrough.
@Heavyarms55 I would love that to be the case, but I can’t imagine Square allowing Nintendo to give away its IP on the Switch Online service. Nintendo would have to pay for it.
It’s a shame. I could definitely see the mobile/steam update of FFVI coming to Switch some day, though - which I have, but can’t stand the glossy new art. Would far prefer them to bring the old sprites to Switch.
Everyone believes that Final Fantasy games begin with 7 and the others are before 7 aren't worth playing.
I hope this is sarcastic
Nope it isn't. You ask anyone and everyone what's the best FF game and 9/10 will say 7 even though it's not. For some reason 7 gets all the praise when there are better FF games in the series. I never understood why 7 is so loved with it's mediocre story, boring characters and your stereotypic villain. And yes I have played 7 before you ask me that.

Yeah, I'm not a Final Fantasy fan, but I've always heard that VI is the best (and one of the best RPGs ever) and VII is number 2. I've since played I and VI on the NES and SNES Classics and want to play VII eventually simply because I've heard so much about it (about its overall greatness, not its story fortunately). If it doesn't blow me away though, that will probably be the last FF I play since neither of the first two did much for me.
Agreed. VII is the best of the 3D era games overall (even though I personally prefer IX, except for the fact it has an even more generic villain than Sephiroth). It was revolutionary when it was released and many people of my generation got into Final Fantasy because of it. It was my second FF game; Tactics was my first.
Overall, I’d place them in this order.
Story: VI mainly because of Kefka. He was a super original villain. One area where FF was always weaker than Dragon Quest and Phantasy Star was the portrayal of its villains. They were always super generic. Kefka was pretty original and his development across the story went far beyond any final fantasy villain to this day.
Gameplay: V, IX, XII are tied, IMO.
Presentation and graphics for its era: VII. When it was released no other JRPG had attempted such a dramatic visual style.
@Krull Of course Nintendo would have to pay them, that's how it works with 3rd party IP. lol
I could see Square re-releasing the classic versions of their FF JRPGs on Switch now. They've started re-releasing their Dragon Quest classics after all. But it's Square, so it'll probably be like 15 dollars a pop.

@Heavyarms55 Wonder how much Nintendo paid Capcom for Breath of Fire on NSO. But just can’t see Square making it worthwhile, especially when Nintendo is still sitting on plenty of its own IP that it wouldn’t need to pay a licence for. Not going to happen - especially as Squenix loves to pump out its old titles time and time again for another round of profits.
