Topic: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

....Alright Nintendo, now get Epic Yarn and the original Luigi's Mansion on Switch. >:c lol

Yeah, I'm rather underwhelmed about Donkey Kong just getting a Returns port, but whatever. There's still going to be a new DK game someday. It just sucks that this confirms that the next Nintendo console will get it and Switch won't have its own DK game. Switch has been nothing short of a phenomenal console, but for me, that will always be a personal flaw.

Even so, I'm still a sucker for remakes/remasters/ports when it's been years since I've played the game at all, so I know I'll get this yet again and enjoy it all the same.

I'll get it. I mostly just want more DK on Switch.

...Can't wait to cry in pain again over those damn Temple levels. lol

This is a skip for me since my 3DS cart is still fully functional, but I'd encourage any who are interested to give this one a try. I think Tropical Freeze is better, but DKCR is worth it too.

Agreeing with @Tyranexx here. I don't think I'll get this since I still have my 3DS version, but I do especially recommend it to those who hasn't played the game originally on the Wii or 3DS. Kinda wish the Switch got its own Donkey Kong platformer instead of this, but whatevs.

I also have the 3DS version, but...I just want to play these games on the big screen again, lol

@MarioVillager92 I could maybe see the benefit if someone is going from the Wii original to this due to the extra levels. If that was my situation, I'd then take price into consideration. For those of us who have the game on 3DS along with its new content added, updating the visuals alone doesn't do it for me. There admittedly could be extras we don't know about yet though.

To be fair, the visual upgrade from 3DS or Wii won't be insignificant. 3DS especially. Plus it has been over 10 years since either released so I doubt the original is fresh in many people's minds, unless they've gone to the effort of replaying it lately

I don't know. I have it on Wii only so I'm getting the new levels and a portable version as well as the HD upgrade. So that's certainly something. But I think even if you have it on 3DS it's probably been long enough now that you've probably forgotten a lot of it anyways. Maybe not the best deal in the world sure but you could certainly do worse

@skywake it’s a good game and being the first in the modern 3D Country series, it’s not a bad deal at all to have it formatted for HD display to sit alongside Retro’s sequel, and what will likely be coming along in the next generation, likely the 6th DK Country game

It will be interesting to see the price tag. Given Luigi's Mansion 2, I'm kind of expecting this one to be a full $60.

@Tyranexx Yeah, apparently this HD version is coming out next year. So there could be more stuff, but I'd imagine they'd all be QoL improvements if anything.

Definitely expecting this to be just like Luigi's Mansion 2 HD; a straight remaster with no new content (not counting 3DS exclusive levels) and a $60 price tag. Not even expecting Funky to show.

@MarioVillager92 That's what I think. And yeah, others do make a good point that it's been some time since the 3DS port. Still, I'd just plug the game in lol. I seem to be way less bothered than many when it comes to the 3DS visuals...at least with the 3D effect enabled, which never bothered me on most settings.

I have a serious qestion - how on earth is anyone able to get an "O" letter in Level 4-3? Its a third stage of Cart levels world (Bombs Away). The letter is just after a lowering crystal ceiling, and I swear it demands me do be frame perfect I guess. Any tips on how to do it? Im thinking of starting the game all over again with Modern World so I can use a Crash Potion.

@yoshi420 Just tried it out (3DS version but I assume the placement is the same) and it took me a few tries but I managed it and I've done it before, so it's definitely possible! Not sure I have any particularly helpful tips other than to keep holding down crouch the whole time and then jump the instant you're out from underneath the crystals.

I guess frame rate difference might actually make it harder on Switch honestly

This game is amazing. I started playing this right after having finished TF. Both games are amazing, but I kinda like Returns more. Sure, music is not as good, some KONG letters are ultra hard to get (i'd compare difficulty od some letters to finishing temple stage in tf. Takes so much time, The game is a bit more challenging (no Dixie and more difficult stages) which is a good thing.

Also, theres plenty mine cart and rocket barrel levels, which are my faves. I just love that barrels and thers plenty of this
