Does anybody else think they are holding back NX information due to Wii U Sales? Because Nintendo isnt doing as well as they would like, releasing that information would cause Wii U sales to spike dramatically due to customers holding out for the NX. 3.4 million estimated Wii U sales for 2016 could easily drop to 2 to under 3 by announcing it so early. If they announce it in June they still have March, April and May to get what measly sales they can. But it could also end up hurting them without at least a couple of extra months promoting their next gen system. If it does end up being mobile also that estimated 7.6 million 3ds units for 2016 could easily get cut in half. Taking away months of profit, which isn't a bad idea in my opinion but it does make the Nintendo fans antsy. Anybody see it this way?

The 3.4 estimate is for up to March 2016. They'll announce new targets for April 16 to March 17 and that will be pretty telling about wether we should expect NX this year or not. They'll probably 'announce' NX at the same time, as it will sort of be letting the cat out of the bag.

They're probably holding it back to sell more WiiUs and finish this generation. It's not ready, like they've said before. They're just now holding meetings to decide how to advertise things for this. I also doubt that anyone who isn't a "gamer" and keeps up with these things realistically understand what's going on or when the NX will come out. For at least 2 years people have been saying they "KNOW" the next system is right around the corner coming by this holiday. Well, 2-3 of those holidays have passed with nothing. Only time will tell now, not sales numbers or leaks people forget about in a week, or up to the minute updates that can change soon after.

Well there certainly is no momentum for them to even care about the Wii U sales. They really screwed up imho.

No, I think they're holding info back so people's hype doesn't burn out by the time the NX actually releases whether it's 2016 or 2017.

@Grumblevolcano: Yea, I agree with this, I think. At first I was kinda saying Nintendo NOT telling us anything is actually burning me out more, which honestly it kind of is, but whenever they decide to reveal it I know I'll get right back on board, even if that turns out to be E3.

I think that probably applies to lots of people, too. I mean, you even have tons of people on the forums saying they are sick of the NX threads (lord only knows why they continue to browse the NX forums, then, but hey - to each his own) - so I think we're going through some disappointment after people, including me, were expecting at least something in January/February. But that didn't happen, and that's fine, and whenever they do decide to show some stuff, I'll be right there.

I think they're just not ready to announce what it is yet. Remember the decision to announce the NX existed as early as they did wasn't a consumer minded decision. It was done to make sure that investors knew they weren't pulling out of the console-hardware business. That they weren't going to become a mobile phone game developer. That was why it was announced.

If the whole deal with DENA hadn't been struck? Then I don't think we would have known anything about the NX at this point. Well maybe we would have heard murmurs about dev-kits going out by now because we are but other than that? Probably not. Because you're right, they don't want to take the steam out of whatever system the NX ends up replacing. Whether that's the Wii U or the 3DS.

Yeah I think they won't say anything till may. They probably want their big 3ds and wii u games out first. Plus I do think Nintendo is being serious about shorter reveal/release Windows. I think Zelda U will be the final game Nintendo shows years in advance.

How exactly would it affect sales at this point? We already know it's coming anyway

No it's just Nintendo being Nintendo. Being secretive over everything

Pretty much what Megas said. We won't hear anything until April. and We probably won't know the official name or see the physical design or games until E3.

@dn862004: saying 'spike' there indicates to me that it is a good thing, as from my understanding a sales spike is a very good thing indeed, but you're using it in a context that is bad, where people stop buying Wii Us because they're saving money for the NX. Am I the one confusing sales jargon and terminology here or you? I think I'm right. I usually am. Just thought I'd point that out as the rest of your comment contradicts itself due to that error.

Spikes can be negative or positive, but it will always be a dramatic shift in either way. So in this case you are wrong.

@TingLz: Well a lot of people don't know the NX is coming, like a lot of people on here say "until Nintendo release information we do not know" so unless you read into all the rumours online a lot of people don't know the NX is coming. I was in game stop the other week and I was talking about the NX and they didn't even know what I was talking about. I personally think there holding of talk about the NX till after star fox has been released because they have spent a lot of money and build heaps of hype for it

haigh1011

I think it's fair to say that it's only people who regularly read game sites that know about NX and that is not enough at all. There are still people who aren't entirely sure what a WIIU is unbelievably !!!!
Here's an example...
How many of you listen to radio shows?
Now have you ever text in or sent in messages to that show and get involved with the show ?
Most people don't.

Nintendo knows this and that's why they haven't been afraid to mention it as they know full well only people who are really into gaming and tech news will here of it.

This is where Nintendo needs to change its methods. Where are the teasers like mobile phone developers or car manufacturers use. How about a close up image of the shape of the controller, or tiny snip of a blurred game or something to really get people talking and sharing.

1 up !
