Please for the sake of humanity..... FIX YOUR SERVERS. I’m so tired and annoyed along with fellow Smash players that are getting punished with false rage quits because another persons internet connection is complete garbage. I’m banned for 30 minutes because of a “communication error” on Nintendo’s end and I’m so tired of it sigh. A multi billion dollar corporation and they put their internet servers completely last. 😤😑.

I’m a huge Nintendo fanboy but a line needs to be drawn. This is ridiculous and I’m sure there are more people that feel the same but hasn’t attempted to speak out about it. Worst servers on planet earth outside of Fallout 76.

I agree. We aren't asking a lot - I mean, it's a little simple - we aren't asking for you to change your formula entirely, so I assume it would be feasible for this to happen. If you've seen half of the Splatoon memes, you know that communication errors happen way too frequently in online matches. Also, considering that Splatoon is one of your biggest online multiplayer games, it doesn't make sense why you wouldn't take care of this (or maybe you are thinking of it idk). I wouldn't mind if it happens by 2025 or something, just at least have that in mind. Thank you.

Dear people, please check the cause of your complaints. The problem is much more likely you ISP than Nintendo. Owned the Switch since launch and had maybe a dozen disconnects in that time. High end estimate.

@Heavyarms55 See that's what I thought, until I was informed that disconnects happen often to a lot of people even when they have good internet. Like I said before, there are a lot of Splatoon memes about server connection being bad, so that reaffirms it.

@J-Plap Or a lot of people on the same shoddy ISPs. It's really not a universal problem. Even in 2019 there are a lot of places that just don't have access to good internet, kids whose parents don't care or can't afford the better service, and generally bad connections. But we hear the issues because no one ever talks about things working right. If things are working right, there is nothing to say. But hearing about the problems can lead one to think there are only problems.

@Heavyarms55 Hmmm that is a good point. It's still really painful when others' bad internet affects your gameplay though.

@J-Plap I agree. But internet infrastructure is basically always improving. This issue should only decrease over time. So long as there is a market for it.

On a side note, these sort of internet issues are yet another reason streaming isn't likely to be a good thing.

Yeah, I agree there’s room for improvement. There always is. It’s also still not isolated to Nintendo, since Microsoft and Sony still charge folks for P2P usage as well. Can’t wait till folks get a Lite and play Smash 😑

@Heavyarms55 gonna have to disagree with you on this one. It is very much so a Nintendo problem. Own all 3 current gen consoles and game on all of them and I by far have the most connection issues with the switch. And it seems to be on a game by game basis because I don’t have hardly any trouble with Mario kart, I occasionally have trouble with splatoon, but smash ultimate is pretty frequent with its issues. It is getting better but there is still gameplay affecting lag and random disconnects every so often.

When I play online on my other systems I don’t have these issues as often and it’s the same internet on my end. In fact I can play halo 5 on WiFi and not have connection issues, but if I try to do that in smash ultimate every 3rd game has some serious lag. This desperately needs to be improved since it’s a paid service.

It's no secret that Nintendo online services are the worst by a huge margin and I hope that nobody is okay with that because they are not free. On Wii U, 3DS, Wii and DS they are/were bare-bones but at least you didn't have to pay extra.

@Paulywally Erm, do you think this site is owned by Nintendo or was this just a rant to other people?

@PuppyToucher The trouble with Switches games and disconnect is the demographic, and the nature of the console. Internet sucks in a lot of of locales and homes, but because Switch doesn't force terabyte sized downloads like the other consoles, anyone, even people with bad internet can play. Whereas if you're stuck on bad internet with an X1X, you're pretty much never even going to get the thing booted....so the other consoles filter out a lot of people with worse internet, at least for online type games, by simply excluding them from the start. Also, PS/PC/XB users are a LOT more likely to use a wired connection, in part because a tethered console has no reason not to, and because the port is right on the box. Switch has no ethernet port on the dock, and a lot of players are going to be played on WiFi. Much less common on other consoles. And while it's possible to have very solid WiFi, the average household doesn't. That nature of Switch being Switch means other players are going to be more likely to disconnect. Which is why Sakurai made that comment about "please use a wired connection" for Smash in his Direct. Which was a slightly silly comment considering the console has no wired connection, and there's not even a first party add-on to add one, the only "official" add-on is a licensed USB to Ethernet adapter, but it's a Hori branded licensed accessory product, not a Nintendo part.

@NEStalgia I had very bad internet when I got my Xbox One X! I just let it download things overnight and paused downloads while I was playing an online game.

@BlueOcean That sounds like a really, really awful time I love X1X, but I bought it as a "yay finally fiber is here!" treat I can't imagine how awful it would be with bad internet? Imagine the MCC Collection updates on bad internet shudder.

@NEStalgia The trick for anyone with this issue (my internet is much better now) is to use the instant-on mode (stand-by mode) so when the console is "off" it is downloading games and updates. When it is on it doesn't matter if it's downloading something unless you are playing an online game, that's when you have to pause the downloads. It's not as bad as it sounds.

Also, get that wired connection going, brosef. Trying to game, especially Smash, over wifi is just asking for it.
