Topic: BOTW2, WiiU conversions and a new hardware revision

With the lack of official information on the roadmap of our beloved company, i want to discuss with you my thoughts on the subject, merely for speculation and fun between us.
So recently it sufaced that nintendo registered a bunch of zelda trademarks similarly to what they did with super mario, and apparently everyone agrees on a 35th zelda collection or something related to it.
I still have to be convinced that the 35th mario is real, since even with COVID related dev problems, i find it very strange that with Pikmin 3 deluxe launching in october, we still don't know anything about a supposed All-stars 2 anniversary that would overlap with Pikmin (at least if we look at the actual date of the anniversary).
But i digress.
Assuming Nintendo wants to make the most out of its WiiU titles, and Pikmin kinda proved that, between Mario's 35th and Zelda's 35th, i'm more and more conviced that at some point we will get wind waker hd and twilight princess hd on switch.
What better time to launch them than the 35th? But then could we actually expect BOTW2 to launch in 2021? Could the sequel be the game to come with the anniversary? Or, more realistically at this point, could BOTW2 take a full fledged 4 years development cycle and launch in 2022 with a new hardware revision?
Remeber guys that it is safe to assume that the switch will receive the same revisions treatment of the 3DS and the DS and GAMEBOY before it, more now than ever with the switch selling like crazy.
But with every new hardware revision must come a big first party title to boost its sales.
Metroid has started its development from scratch, and even with me loving the series, it's never been a system seller. Bayonetta 3 will be a niece game. Then perhaps a new Mario? another Deluxe?
What game could Nintendo launch with the new inevitable hardware revision? Maybe a big third party we don't know anything about.
My hype for BOTW2 is skyrocketing but i'm more and more convinced that nintendo has no hurry to release it. I think their plan is to release it with the new, inevitable hardware revision. The switch pro, if you will.
Ready? set? debate!

BotW 2 should be a late 2021 release. No doubt it'll be a quick turnaround, like OoT to MM was, because most of the world and its assets have already been created. BotW 2 shouldn't require the same five-year development cycle that BotW 1 had.

P.S. - And I wouldn't expect a Switch hardware revision until Nintendo is ready to announce the Switch successor in three or four years. It makes zero sense to launch new hardware when you (Nintendo) just sold a record 21 million consoles last fiscal year.

@Magician initially i thought the same, especially since Aonuma told us this game essentially started as a DLC with too many ideas, but as time passes i'm getting more and more skeptical. it would make sense to release it in 2021 if they don't have anything else. i see your argument, and also i don't see how they could make a new model justifiable without pumping up the specs like they did with the new 3ds. it is also a conversation with nvidia that has to ba made, maybe the next switch will have the tegra X2 as digital foundry likes to speculate. But at this point the switch seems to be getting the full portable nintendo treatment that DS and GAMEBOY had, and as Furukawa stated in an investors meeting, nintendo feels that having focused all their developing forces on one console, they feel the switch can have a longer life cycle.

@damien33ad thank you for the video, very interesting, didn't know the guy, i'll definitely keep an eye.
I'm of the same opinion about WWHD and TP HD, i really liked he originals but it would be kinda lame to release just those. Maybe 35th of zelda will be more about something along the line of Link's Awakening, who knows.
In the video they touch on a topic a didn't consider. so if they do an anniversary collection in time for black friday and christmas, it makes sense for them to bundle it with some sort of custom console. Let's not forget XBOX and PS5 are launching in november, and even if they don't compete on the same level, they all sell videogames, so nintendo needs something for christmas.

Also technically next year would be the 35th of the first metroid released in japan, so maybe we are also getting the famous prime trilogy conversion?

The 20nm finfet process has been phased out by Nvidia. Because of that, it's unlikely Nintendo and Nvidia will ever use the Tegra X2 in the Switch family of platforms. Instead the Switch successor will most likely be using a custom version of the Tegra Xavier mobile chipset. More memory bandwidth than the Tegra X1 but still less than a base PS4.

That's right folks, even after the current Switch has run its course, the Switch successor still won't be as powerful as a base PS4. Everyone needs to dial back their expectations of Nintendo a bit. They're in the portable gaming business for the long haul.

@damien33ad I don't see Nintendo saturating the Switch with lots of Zelda games in a short space of time. Particularly not if their biggest game on the horizon is a Zelda game.

I wouldn't be surprised to see WW and/or TP (or even potentially Skyward Sword) in the first half of next year if they know by the turn of the year that BoTW2 definitely won't make 2021. You've got to believe they've already ported the Wii U remakes to Switch internally and could basically press the button at any time.

Longer term I still expect the Oracles games in the new LA engine before the Switch's life is out but they won't be released within 12 months of BoTW2. So timings might be quite tight for that one.

@StuTwo agreed. Neither do I. Part of zeldas appeal is we get them only once in a while. More often than Mario or metroid but if they just start putting out releases they will become less special. I also think the consumer might not buy all the releases but start selecting which ones they want.

@Magician is Xavier as powerful as a base xbox one or one s. That would be perfectly fine.

@Magician If DLSS is as good on the edges as is in Death Stranding on PC, i'm perfectly fine with Xavier. I'm actually excited!

@Magician
There are so many other factors that go into the ultimate speed the hardware is capable of, though. Regardless, Switch 2 or whatever will still pretty much fit the recent pattern of Nintendo's hardware being between half to a full generation behind the other guys.

On a somewhat related note, my gut feeling is we're gonna see a console landscape of only Nintendo and Sony sooner than we think.

I think it's best to use the specific threads for these conversations; e.g. the Switch Thread & BOTW2 Thread.
