Topic: Bayonetta 1, 2, and 3?!

Might as well make a thread for all 3 games, have at it!
My wish list for 3.
1. No Enzo.
2. Final Boss is epic again.

EDIT: Eh, maybe I'll just keep B2's final boss's name out in case no one has played the first 2 yet.

Palutena suit for Bayonetta, as odd as that would be.

I don't care either way, but while I'm not surprised Bayonetta 3 is gonna be on Switch, I am a bit surprised it's an exclusive. My assumption is that they assume that 2 being Nintendo exclusive would get in the way of 3 having an audience on the consoles, so they decided they might as well end it as a trilogy and as a Nintendo exclusive since that worked out on vastly less successful hardware already.

I never finished 2 unfortunately. My disc had some issues last I checked that crashed the game in one of the late levels. Which is unfortunate, as story aside, it was an absolutely fantastic game.

I think they more assume that the original had such a poor showing that no one wanted to publish Bayonetta 2 or fund development, except Nintendo, and they got free reign to do what they want under it.

I imagine, given how 2 sold reasonably well for a niche title on a system no one owned, they may as well keep going, given how receptive Nintendo has been to not just the IP, but Platinum as a whole, with W101, Nintendo costumes, letting them co-develop Star Fox and now Smash Bros inclusion.

I'd say 3 being an exclusive more or less confirms that Nintendo is the series permanent home. Nintendo themselves will make sure of that.

I doubt the series will end as a Trilogy, why would it? Why would Platinum or Nintendo want it to? Unless it bombs but after selling 1m+ on a flop console, I doubt that's going to happen. With the new fans gained from Wii U /Switch with the release of 1 and 2,plus a large user base to sell the game to, Platinum should finally have a commercially successful game.

I'd assume that, with Nintendo having bankrolled the second and third games, they'll have exclusive publishing rights for them.

However Sega can presumably still have the first game ported to and released on new systems, hence the PC version that came out earlier in the year. Leaks suggest that it'll be headed to the PS4 and XB1 next year sometime as well, although there's nothing confirmed as of yet.

@Inertiacreep The original wasn't considered to be. It released on 3 platforms with a large user base and received brilliant reviews but didn't do anywhere near as well as it should have. That's why Nintendo stepped in to fund the sequel. They'll have hoped with their backing and exclusivity it would be a hit with Nintendo fans and it was, just there was not enough Wii U owners to sell it to.

To be fair, it's more accurate to say that Bayonetta 1 sold a million copies, and Sega thought it had the potential to sell way more for some reason, despite being niche (especially in 2010) and a new IP. So Nintendo had to pay money because a sequel to a 1 million selling niche game was somehow disappointing and not worth it for Sega.

(Bayonetta 1 is still Platinum's 3rd best selling game IIRC)

Yeah, the first game sold about 2 million units across the PS3 and 360, and the second game sold about a million on the Wii U. As recently as the mid-2000s those would have been very good numbers, but budgets and expectations have crept up to the extent that they're probably not even break even level now.

Still, for games that can stand the test of time and keep selling long after their initial hype it could potentially be worth it, so lets hope that they get the sales they always deserved this time around. The PC port of the first game has reportedly been selling well, despite having had virtually no marketing, so fingers crossed.

I'm really excited 1 and 2 are coming to the switch and that 3 is an exclusive!
I never played either and am really pumped for this.

I never managed to finish the second game due to a corrupt save file which caused the game to glitch out during a big battle, think it was a ship of some kind. Anyway, will be playing through it to the end this time... and throwing my Switch against the wall in rage.

But also cannot wait for the third game. That literally kept me from falling asleep from the hype!
