Major spinoff or otherwise, Home Circuit is certainly an expensive purchase.
Nintendo will presumably be aware of all the wallets on cooldown from picking it up, so it would seem unlikely that there'll be another game in the franchise soon.
@Bolt_Strike Obviously they had little to no help from the main team, that's my point. I think the main team was working on other projects. Such as Yasuyuki Oyagi working on Smash, or Kosuke Yabuki being involved in ARMS, NSMBU DX, and both spinoffs.
@rockodoodle I doubt it'll sell more than Labo either. It doesn't really have to though. I'd think that a million sales would be more than enough for Nintendo to turn a tidy profit from the exercise.
That's obviously nowhere near what a full new Mario Kart game would sell over its lifetime, but it'd still represent a significant chunk of early sales lost if they were to put them out close together and besides, MK8 is still doing good business.

Agreed. Even if it ends up losing $$$ or breaking even, think about all the exposure and buzz it’s getting. If nothing else, it gets Nintendo and MK out there in front of eyes in the media, online and in stores. That’s what I think it’s geared for.
Mario Kart 9 would eat into Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's and Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit's sales, so yeah, as long as these games are selling I don't see MK9 in the near future. A Mario Kart Tour port would have been far more likely and even that didn't materialize because of Home Circuit.
