@Tibob I'm pretty sure I was stating my own opinion. Sorry you don't share it but I certainly won't be shedding salty tears about it. But the truth is that PS4 games do look and perform better. And they are cheaper. These are cold hard facts

@cookypuss Claiming portability isn't suited for adults isn't a neutral opinion. It's clearly racist since portability is very popular in Japan whatever your age. But it's not very surprising to read that from a Sony fanboy since Sony brainwash their audience to destroy the japanese industry with their insane budget and graphics race that only favor their western studios. We should boycott japanese games on PS4 until Sony stop this toxic strategy that hurts the entire japanese industry.

@bitleman are you seriously calling me racist? Have you lost your mind? Sadly you know nothing about me. I'm not a Sony fanboy at all. In my life I have bought 3 Snes, 1 GB, 1GBC, 1 GBA, 3 NDS, 2 3ds, 2 N64, 1 GC, 1 Wii, 1 WiiU and 1 Switch. The Switch I traded in because I found it to be an overpriced novelty that I hadn't turned on since I completed Odyssey, which was admittedly a fantastic game. You need to calm yourself down

@bitleman racist! Come on. It was maybe a little harsh in terms of wording, but there was nothing racist about it. Too many people freely play this card and it's not on. (Unless you were being ironic. Then, I apologise).

This thread is a mess.

@cookypuss
I was refering to you disqualifying portability as a criteria on the basis of you being an adult. But yes, it is your opinion indeed. Sorry about my exagerated reaction !

@Tibob I apologise, I didn't mean it as an insult. Honestly, staring at a small screen gives me a headache

Cookypuss was just saying that the visual downgrades are obvious on Switch ports and that most Switch exclusive games are Wii U ports and both things are right. He didn't insult anybody as far as I know.

Super Mario Odyssey looks and plays good because it was made for Switch but porting Xbox/PS games won't always be as successful. I assume that the headaches come because of blurry visuals (Sonic, Doom, etc.) but even worse is the unstable frame rate of some of these ports.

I think that the Wii U ports are a great idea because Switch is slightly more powerful than Wii U and last-gen consoles so those ports should be good running on Switch. However they are overpriced and they still sell well because there's little else for Switch owners.

Of those 700 Switch games most are indie multiplatform and mobile games.

My (very unpopular) opinion is that gamers have been getting away with insanely low prices for a long time. What other form of entertainment can provide so many hours of engagement at such low costs? BotW has given most of us 100+ hours of entertainment for about 60 bucks, and even then many of us got it on sale for much less than that.

Aside from paperback novels, video games are the cheapest form of entertainment per hour. Further, what other industry seems so immune to inflation? I paid 60 bucks for AAA games back in the early 2000s, and here I am in 2018 still paying 60 bucks for AAA games. Seriously, what other industry can say that? Entertainment prices have risen across the board whether you're talking move tickets, cable subscriptions, Netflix subscriptions, etc.

And PC gamers? We're the most spoiled of the bunch. Personally, unless it's a game I MUST have on launch, I won't buy something for PC unless it's AT LEAST 50% off on STEAM or Green Man or Humble Bundle, etc., and guess what? That typically happens before the game's even been out for a year. And I'm completely ignoring the numerous game subscription services we have now that cost roughly 20 bucks a month for unlimited access to new AAA games and more.

And yet we complain.

I'm not attacking any single person on this site, but threads like this always make me shake my head, like publishers and devs should be giving away their work for half off or something once a game is older than 6 months. Think of your own line of work. Would that kind of thought process from your customers be sustainable for your business? Sales happens, sure, so wait for them: don't expect them indefinitely on products that YOU'VE identified as "old" (but perhaps have never even played).

I'll say it again: this industry is heading for a crash, and unfortunately, some of the blame will be on the gamers for our unrealistic expectations and, frankly, increasingly childish and hostile viewpoints. Just do a quick Google search for devs who have quit their jobs or taken a diffferent direction because they just couldn't deal with community "feedback" anymore. It's a sad rabbit hole to go down, if you're willing to open your eyes.

@rallydefault That's a part of why microtransactions and DLC are also a huge part of AAA gaming nowadays (the other part being they need ALL of the money instead of enough money while maintaining consumer goodwill). Budgets are growing and growing and even if gaming is exposing itself more and more to the general public, it's not enough to offset the higher development costs. A failure today dwarfs the cost of failure from 10 years ago as well, so risks in game design and profit potential are even riskier. The amount of units sold does not mean much if a sizable percentage is from heavy discounts.
