@shaneoh
well, first and foremost, these games are not meant for you, because you already own these. It's for people who missed these on the Wii U - so in my opinion - these prices are justifiable.
@NintendoPete
I own a Switch, any game released on the system is meant for me. I've bought a second copy of games for fairer prices. In the end it's less money in Nintendo's pocket, that's not my problem
The Wii U and the Switch are different consoles that just happen to be released by the same company. The games are the same, so why should they have different pricing?
By that logic you'd be fine with paying full retail for the first Super Mario Bros.
Why some people think that nobody owns a Wii U? Firstly, every loyal Nintendo fan has bought it if you use the logic. Secondly, over 13 million people have bought it, not just a few people, and it has a very high games per console ratio. Thirdly, it was released in this generation like Switch, which is, basically, a portable version of Wii U. Fourthly, around 17 million people have bought a Switch and according to Nintendo's stockholders Switch sales are slowing down already so even if Switch was a craze like Wii and Wii U (many people ignore that Wii U had an excellent launch) when they launched it is not so much craze now. Nintendo thought it would sell 100 millions like Wii. Do they still think so?
Of course Nintendo can charge whatever they want for Wii U ports, the OP is not arguing that but obviously not everyone is pleased. Nintendo just wants to get as much money as they can but as some people have said it can backfire because they end up selling fewer games (less money for them) and burning people out eventually.
So yes, Nintendo can do whatever they want like any of us but that is so obvious that it boggles the mind why some people think that even counts as an answer.
there's cost in porting a game, printing it on a cartridge and making it appear on a store shelf.
it would be crazy for Nintendo to have Wii U ports priced as "budget titles" drive people away from buying "full price" games. They re-release those titles because they feel they still have potential, not to give them away.
lastly, people who bought a game on Wii U got what they paid for : the game. Nintendo doesn't owe them anything.
In my opinion, no. High prices and an overload of WiiU ports (which I already own) in the end persuaded me to trade in my switch for a ps4. Doom for £5, Bloodborne £10, Fallout 4 £5, Wolfenstein £7, and all superior versions for less cost than just Doom on it's own for the switch. Basically owned the switch for Mario Odyssey. This year has just been shocking for WiiU owning switch users. Delaying Dark Souls remastered was the last straw tbh
It really is all down to what people are willing to pay. If it sells at full retail price, then basically it was justified as people were willing to pay. If it doesn’t then it wasn’t.
Despite people saying that Nintendo games do not go on sale, I’ve seen several go on sale even if it may take some time. Of course this only tends to happen if sales begin to drop and stock needs to be sold off. I foresee Mario Kart 8 Deluxe staying high as people continue to buy it. Tropical Freeze and Hyrule Warriors however may see some drops but further down the line.
@Snaplocket if money was no object then I'd obviously keep the Switch and get a ps4. The lure of superior versions of games for a fraction of the price was key in my decision making.
The only exception I made was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I didn't purchase any of the DLC on the Wii U version, so at least I got some new content. I won't buy any other Wii U ports though.

@Snaplocket Personally I could not care less about portability. I'm an adult. I have my own place. Slightly worse graphics? Yeah right, only very slightly. And I thought my eyesight was bad, haha
As someone who did not have a Wii U and is buying these games for the first time it seems justifiable. I'm getting the same content and sometimes more than what a Wii U owner got plus having it portable. I think that's worth the asking price.
I can understand why people would want the games to be cheaper if they bought them already on the Wii U, but it’s not like they are outdated, obsolete games. They spent money developing these games that didn’t really have much of an audience on Wii U so why dramatically drop the price if they don’t have to? If consumers think the price is too high, they won’t buy.

You'll be an adult when you understand that your situation and opinion doesn't constitute a truth.
So I literally just made this thread because I thought it was an interesting topic, and wanted to see what other people thought. It's totally fine to disagree and discuss things, but half of these replies are just condescending garbage and when anyone chooses to challenge one of your points, instead of presenting a good argument you just backhandedly insult someone or talk down to them...or start stroking Nintendo's [expletive removed].
