I kind of miss ReTail. I used to get rich by selling my items for 99,999 bells (the max) and force my villagers to buy them. I wonder if that’s part of the reason they replaced it with Nook’s Cranny, but I still miss that feature.
Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.
@BabyYoshi65 Fully admit I'm being a grumpy grouch here, ha ha, but not at all. I loved New Leaf since launch day, but never appreciated how they split up the locations for selling and buying items, then reduced the selling prices at the Nook shop to provide a reason for ReTail to exist. Running back and forth between the two was annoying. The auction house didn't serve much purpose that Lost and Found doesn't, so item customization was the only unique and useful feature. I was actually really happy to see the Nooks take over buying items again.
Actually, New Horizons did a lot of consolidating locations when I think about it: the post office and train station were in two buildings, now they're one. Selling and buying were two buildings, now they're one. The shoe store and gardening store are traveling merchants and K.K. does outdoor concerts instead of building a club. The Lost and Found and house remodeling services are in the Resident Services Building now. And several buildings are just gone, like the cafe, the Dream Suite, and the fortune teller. I imagine it's purposeful due to the focus on customization: too many shops and buildings to build makes it difficult to have space for the player to make their own creations.
@BabyYoshi65 I do miss the variety, yeah. I miss the dream suite and the fortune teller. But I also think having shop buildings like the first three games in the town proper feels natural, like your island/town's is unique. I like being able to select where the buildings are.
Nook's Homes, Shampoodle, the Photo Booth, Nook's Homes, and Club Lol have been replaced in ways that are either good enough or better, I think. So have Kicks and the Garden Shop. The Dream Suite, the Fortune Teller, the Happy Home Showcase haven't been replaced and all of those were fun features.
I would like to see the cafe return because its minigame and the character interaction was a good daily activity. I'd like to see the Dream Suite and Happy Home Showcase combined into some new feature that lets us send copies of our towns to friends. And I'd love to see a minigame island or arcade added for multiplayer. Then we're basically back to the feature set of New Leaf plus the new features of NH, which would be great. The way I'd accomplish that is to make the cafe a building, to allow people to fly to Kappn's Island, and to make a Dream Island that players can fly to.
