Topic: Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I did it! I got - completely unexpectedly - a 5 star rating! It was something I didn’t have my immediate sights on, as I’d read in a guide a couple of weeks ago that you needed something like 250+ fences order to qualify and I’m not sure I’ve even got half that. Still, I thought I’d chat with Isabelle to see what areas she’d recommend for improvement, actually skipped over the dialogue where she said it so had to use the capture button so double-check if she really said it.

I really wasn’t sure if it would be possible with the way I’ve been working on my town. Most of the examples of 5 stars islands I’ve seen have been painstakingly planned, densely decorated conurbations, positively bursting with items, fencing and flooring. They’re all really impressive creations, and a testament to to the imagination and efforts of their creators, but my approach to town planning has been a bit more traditional. Basically, I’ve tried to preserve the feeling of old AC games; that of being let loose in a forest of animals to run around freely, shaking trees, catching bugs and gambolling merrily over great expanses of strangely triangular grass. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to reach five stars without covering it all up and turning the once untouched wilderness into a tight, highly regulated metropolis.

But somehow it happened and I am very happy. And sleepy. Going to bed now. Night all!

@meeto_1 there is still no way to give someone else a bug or fish right? otherwise i would give you one of mine, i have tons of em in storage waiting for the day Flick arrives, it's a bit like waiting for my numbers in the lottery (:

@foxyflimflam @Lard_Bucket I don't get (many) meteor showers either. On the plus side it rains a lot and i never have to make a new watering can (:

@foxyflimflam i started going on mystery tours again today so i can stock up on materials for building fences. I will needs lots of them for relocating the rocks.

@jamesnl I found a really cool video on youtube that shows someone using mannequins with a custom design to help spawn the rocks! That way clean up is much easier than removing furniture items and whatnot. I think I'm going to try that technique when that time comes! Seemed to work perfectly for him!!

@Lard_Bucket I didn't have a plan originally when I started except that I had my shops near to the airport with idea of being able to close off areas if i started using online functionality. Thankfully everyone on here is nice so I am moving them. I also want to have my houses near the shops and like you to have an island with a natural feel / lots of trees and flowers. There are still some decisions I have to make regarding location of my house (currently on the beach, safely out of the way) and the campsite. I don't want things to be overcrowded while also being inspired by some of the islands i have seen from people here. I definitely started the game as I did with new leaf, things were just placed willy nilly here and there. I'm trying to bring some order to the chaos currently and planning a few moves ahead (:

@jamesnl no unfortunately. Although I keep forgetting this rule and trying to trade fish with people.

In the last week I noticed That I come across 1 tarantula per night like clockwork.

For the most part I seem to get CJ and flick visiting once a week. The skunk on the other hand has only visited me twice.

@foxyflimflam I was on a friend's island earlier where there was a bunch of random mannequins everywhere. That explains that then.

I don't entirely understand the star rating system. I had a 3 for a while, then it dropped to 2 for unknown reasons (Isabel said that residents loved the island), then when I checked it a couple of days ago, it had suddenly jumped to a 4.

@Mountain_Man Without any change? Like no new forniture added or weed removed? If that's the case could it be that if villagers have a conflict, your rating goes down? so once things get better your rating goes up? I haven't seen anything about it on articles or forums though, all I see is that decorating the island from villagers houses to furniture outside and planting flowers is what affects that.

The rating is actually constantly updated in this game. I usually have 5 star but if i drop about 10 items on the ground it immeadiately drops to 4 if I ask Isabelle again. If I pick them up then talk to her again it goes back to 5. Something a bit unusual about the tree amount criteria is that trees that have not reached full growth do not appear to be counted at all.

Just used my May Day ticket. I won't spoil it but it was pretty fun.

@Eel Regarding leaving via "-" I heard it can be tempermental. I play it safe by leaving by the airport.
