at times i find this game overwhelming. It's also the reason it's so addictive. There are so many possibilities, so many items and recipes and then there is terraforming... i was wondering how have others decided on island layout, have you chosen a theme for your island or are there various themes and if so how you do you transition from one to the other? Would love a few tips to help me out.
Hay everyone, on a lighter note I realised we are coming up to earth day which is celebrated in AC. Anyone looking forward to it, what should I expect?

@jamesnl My brain doesn’t work like most... I actually drew my island map in a notebook and keep adding things to the physical map before doing it in game. Helps me keep up with how many bridges/inclines there are as well. Once I figure out the plan, I move forward.

@jamesnl I don't have a specific theme or color, I do want to have a small outdoor library, bath house, cafe, playground and a farm/garden. Other than the library ( waiting to get tall book shelves and what not from bottle or villager... again ( I had that before )), I got most of them up. My house is also all over the place color wise. No theme... too much work for me if I want specific color. Might do that one day when the game slow down for me, but for now, I just put whatever I see nice.
My Brain, eyes, and fingers are not team player. They don't coordinate with each other.
If you run through flowers, are they completely destroyed like in past games or is it just like they were plucked and will grow back soon? I have trained myself from past games to never run, but with grass no longer wearing out I may start running if flowers are basically safe, too.
@Pink_Yoshi Don't worry about it. I am way behind everyone else too. I unlocked terraforming, but have done nothing with it yet. I think everyone can play how they want and I would never say anyone is playing badly (unless they are cheating other people which no one is doing) but it seems like many people are playing to "beat" the game as soon as possible and be done with it. I have only gone to other people's islands for things I can't do on my own (foreign fruit/flowers, getting Nook Miles). I never go just to get items I don't have yet or sell turnips, because those things will come to my island eventually. This game is meant to be played for years and built up slowly. Just go at your own pace. That's what I'm doing.
Yes you're right, thanks for putting it that way! I'm definitely not as good at designing as other people are but I suppose I will learn as I go. I've been looking on YouTube for ideas but it kinda feels bad to copy someone's ideas!
I bought some turnips today in the hope that I will get a good price for them at some point this week.
@Pink_Yoshi did you do the upgrade for the joycons? First try to recalibrate them by going to Controllers on the main menu. Then be sure to do the system and joy-con Update in your system settings.
My advice, don’t worry about all the items under nook miles. Start stock piling those miles because you will need approximately 15,000 for the terraforming and all the extras that don’t come with the terraforming tools automatically. Shake those trees, sell that fruit, talk to the villagers, fish until you drop, and swipe ups every nasty bug you see. The bells will add up and so will the miles. Once you can terraform, it’s as if you entered into a new dimensions and the sky is the limit once your brain kicks into creativity mode.
It’s not a race. Enjoy it. Do you need fruit? Flowers? We are all here for you 😉
Thanks for such a nice post I haven't added any friends as I was worried about things getting spoiled but I think you lovely lot all seem fair so I will definitely add some friends onto my console, it seems to help things along a bit too. My native fruit is peaches and I have pears also but would like some oranges if anyone has any?
I didn't know about needing 15,000 Nook Miles for the terraforming so thanks for the heads up. I seem to collect the Nook Miles quite quickly so will stock those up for a while like you suggested.
As for the Joycon, I have recalibrated it but its got the drifting problem that surfaced with the Switch, so even with recalibration it still has a mind of its own! I'll get a new one as soon as I can, its just expensive for something that will likely get the same problem again.
I am looking forward to being able to terraform as I do think it will open up a load of ideas to me. I'll get there in the end, thanks for your lovely post!
@Lard_Bucket Ok, great. I don't care if they are going to grow back, especially after only one day. And I will definitely try to stop when I get to them @BrittGOAL14 but sometimes they sneak up on me.
@Pink_Yoshi No problem. I definitely am not artistic at all and have no idea how to design. I'm not sure I even want to do a big elaborate design. Everyone's islands look awesome, but they look like big towns. I think I want mine to continue looking like a deserted island, albeit much less deserted now. So basically I'm saying I have no idea what I want to do nor any idea how to do it so it is aesthetically pleasing anyways, so you are not alone!

@BenAV that’s amazing. Hopefully that means mine will close Tuesday. The beginning of the game is a bit of a blur but I think the shopped opened on my second day. Really hoping for regular better items. Some days it’s just depressing.
