My brother spilled soda all over my game collection. My Switch collection got it the worst. With some of my PS4 games being pretty badly water damaged as well. The worst thing about it is that some of these games actually most of them are games I just bought, like less then 6 months ago. They were basically brand new. Animal Crossing New Horizons, Breath of the Wild, and Xenoblade: Chronicles Definitive Edition are just some of the games damaged. Basically most of my collection is noticeably damaged. It just really sucks honestly.

The worst apart about it is that I think have some degree of OCD or to a certain extent. With these things happen like stuff when there not in “perfect” condition even just little nicks. My brain kind of goes insane. I get so stressed out and upset. And I will be like this for a while. My head will start to hurt from the amount of stress from stuff like this, when these incidents happen. I will honestly just look at my Switch games and just get upset even though it’s been a good couple of days since the incident happen.

The worst about it is it makes not even want to play my Switch in the first place because there not in “perfect” condition now and are water damaged. It makes not want to play games I just bought but still haven’t finished yet like New Horizons and Breath of the Wild. Heck I barely even started Xenoblade before that one got water damaged. Xenoblade 2 also got badly damaged too and i didn’t even start that one.

I don’t really know how I can fix this too. I guess I could spend money on replacement cases, there around 10 dollars a piece. But I got a decent amount that are water damaged. So it could add up fast. Plus it means more money to spend which means more stress....

I know it sounds like I’m whining or making it a big deal out of nothing. But these things really bother me. I hate when my stuff gets damaged. Especially expensive stuff like Video games I just bought. It just puts me in a sad mood I guess lol.

@TheOtherEden It's unfortunate, but the games are still in working order at least. Maybe your brother would volunteer to contribute to the cost of some new cases.
I'd understand if that isn't practical, with them costing around $7 each, but you might consider picking up something like this - that is, if you're not too cut up about not being able to present your games in their original cases.

@edhe

Thanks for the suggestion, it’s a good idea, unfortunately I do like to have games in there original game cases. I’m trying to think of any other way I can fix this without spending too much money, but I can’t really think of anything really.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I'm OCD myself, and completely understand how this would drive you crazy to the extent of not wanting game/collect anymore... Ever thought about going Digital?

It sounds as if you take a lot of pride in displaying your collection of games, but going digital would eliminate the stress of a now "imperfect" collection. Also, you would never have to worry about the incident repeating itself.

I guess you can always trade the ruined ones in to somewhere like GameStop and use the trade in towards purchase of a new copy. I mean the store might think your odd but it's a thought.

Here's the question how and where was the games and Switch that she could spill soda all over it? I never keep my Switch and Games in the same place for that very reason. All games I play are take out of the box and with a Hori24 case hold for them. And as to the Switch how did she even get close enough to spill it-Docked or Portable. This story doesn't add up here when one just just thinks about it.

Welp someone spilled a little bit of ice cream on my games and then when my we decided to move out shelf and when that was happening. My brother cracked one of my PS1 games. The cracks could have been there all ready but I swear there weren’t. Honestly my games these past few months have constantly getting damaged. This is like the 5 or 6th there has been water damaged. Maybe at this point I should sell all of them because this kinda making me go crazy lol.

@the4seer thanks I appreciate you’re comment. It helps a lot because I always felt like people wouldn’t really understand my frustration and just think I’m overreacting. When it can really make my mind just go insane for a bit. I usually would kind of feel alone with feeling this way. People would just think I’m a crazy person or something lol. Which sucks honestly with this type of stuff. Yeah honestly I’m like 50 digital 50 physical. My collection is pretty modest. I own maybe like at most like 12 physical switch games? I have thought about it. But I don’t know if I could bring my self to do it. I do like digital games but I also like getting physical stuff too. Especially with Franchises/games I really like. Like Zelda games for example.

@Tasuki

I have thought about that. But only problem is I would still have to pay money to rebuy a lot of the games since GameStop doesn’t give you much for trading stuff in. I have thought about maybe asking a GameStop to see if they have any Extra cases with cover art or something? I dunno it probably wouldn’t work honestly. Might think I’m a weirdo or something lol

@SwitchForce

No my switch is fine it was just the cover art of the games that got damaged. My Switch is located in a different spot from my games. I have a pretty tiny shelf that I use to store games. My brother would use the shelf to eat on it. We don’t have any where to eat in our room or in our apartment. So he eats there. I told him he’s not aloud to eat there now, so I hope nothing like this happens again.

As far as I know there is a rather active market of resellers who provide game boxes (not sure about just inserts) without the actual cartridge. So you might look online at the usual hubs and see what's making the rounds.

You are what you eat from your head to your feet.

Don

I completely understand your pain. I like to have my things in perfect condition too. I dropped a few blu-rays on the hardwood floor and it bothers me that the cases now have cracks even though the discs are fine.
A lot of people don’t care about boxes, that’s why most used games are cartridge only especially for Game Boy games. I recommend asking online if anyone would be willing to sell you the boxes for a price satisfactory to both parties.

Don

TheOtherEden

@OptometristLime

Yeah that’s what I was thinking about. It might be I have to do. I saw some cases being for sale on eBay and the like.

@Don @Slowdive Thanks for the responses guys it helps a lot honestly. Honestly it really helps me feel better when I know I’m not the only one who would feel this way, so thanks for all you’re responses it’s much appreciated. Yeah I feel you’re pain too. I get really annoyed with small nicks happen, it’s Small but it’s still really annoying regardless.

@TheOtherEden
You are welcome. Reading over your original post again I do have a suggestion. I think at least two of the games you mentioned, Zelda Breath of the Wild and Animal Crossing will most likely get a budgeted player’s choice re-release some point in the future. By then you can pick each up for $20 (Some player’s choice titles may also be $30 but most retail for $20) if you are willing to wait and don’t mind the player’s choice label on the box. It will probably still cost you some money to replace the games but it will be much cheaper than current price. Zelda, Mario and Animal Crossing titles usually always eventually get a player’s choice release.
It’s terrible that a lot of your boxes got ruined but the replacement cost is not as bad as if it happened to an out of print, expensive game like Conker’s Bad Fur Day or Earthbound that would cost at least hundreds to replace just one game. I recommend finishing these games, dry the paper in the boxes the best you can and you might be able to sell the games and use the money to buy a brand new player’s choice re-release copy later on. It might also be a good idea to store the games in plastic box containers with lid on when not using to protect the games from spills and other hazards.

Don

Tasuki

@TheOtherEden Regardless you are going to have to spend money to rebuy your collection. At least with trading in the damaged copies it won't be as expensive.

@Don Thanks for the suggestion but honestly I’m just gonna try the get the replacement cases now rather then later, I don’t like the Nintendo Selects border around it lol. @Tasuki yeah that’s what it’s gonna look like, I’m thinking maybe I should start with the worse looking ones and work my way from there.

I know how you feel, I was 100% smash for 3ds getting all the trophy's just getting everything but then my 3ds wiped the memory of my whole smash bros game, there was a scratch on it that messed it up some how, That was two years of info that just went bye bye.

For the covers and cases, I know some third party places sell empty clear cases and then you can find a case cover pdf online to print out. Not perfect, but a thought.

That is really unfortunate and i would get my brother for that badly if he would pull a stunt like that. I can totally understand being upset about it, the accident is just always visible and would remind me of a stupid incident. A similar Incident happened to a DVD collection of mine and yeah... in the end it got slowly replaced over time. You already got the right idea about it i think as well as so many good answers, honestly just seeing this thread makes my opinion of the community rise quite a bit. Anyways, good luck and hope you find some cheap good looking new cases!

Hey there, I can extremely relate to your situation and I understand. First, I would like to mention that you shouldn't feel bad that you got sad or believe that you have mental illness and OCD because you got disheartened with the damaging of the items associated with your favourite pastime. Imagine how a book lover would feel if soda had spread over their book collection or how a stamp collector would have reacted if their expensive and rare stamps had been damaged. In fact, I'm pretty confident that in an era before video games, problems like yours affected a great many people and hobbists of all sorts! Therefore, it's pretty normal to feel disappointed and to want to stop enjoying your Switch. As a side note though, I would like to add that the purpose of retail packaging in electronics is to protect the actual purchased products (i.e. cartridges) and serve as a form of advertising as well. That said and out of the way, let me tell you how OCD I am when it comes to Nintendo products and video games.

Generally, I am fond of renewed products as I don't see any reason to pay an additional $300 for retail packaging and official lightning cables and such, and I like to feel that I help in the protection of the environment too. The only products I am crazy about collecting though, are Nintendo video games and consoles. I want everything pristine, and especially the original console boxes with all their inserts, cardboards, styrofoams, and cables, chargers, etc. I don't accept bumps, scratches, creaks, holes, sticky glue, stickers, and more. Now, I recently bought a Nintendo Switch Lite from Facebook Marketplace at a bargain price of 170€ seemingly sealed. Package arrived by post and indeed it was sealed and probably brand new. However, the original box was full of bumps, creaks, scratches, and had an intense male perfume smell on it. Yes, the console was indeed brand new but the box was so beat up by my standards that I wanted to get rid of the whole thing. I got desperately sad about the situation and decided to order another one from Amazon Spain and forward at the same time a long email to Amazon support explaining that if the console box is not in a newly fresh factory produced condition I will return it and exchange it for another Switch and so on. In other words, I had to become a Karen to get what I want but that's how OCD I am in regards to Nintendo products. Well, the package arrived almost a week earlier than it should have with standard shipping and in a truly pristine brand new perfect condition. They exceeded my expectations. And then I sold the previous one without the charger, as I kept it to charge my new one, for 140€. My point is that most normal human beings would have been more than just happy to buy a Switch Lite at a bargain price even if its retail packaging had to be beat up. A few years ago to fight my OCD I made a complete change to digital goods because they cannot be physically damaged or ever become imperfect from tear and wear. This applies to books, music, and video games of course. Perhaps, you could sell your damaged games online and then re-buy them digitally from the Nintendo eShop. Sure, you will "get in" a bit moneywise but you will have not to worry again about game cases getting damaged and being imperfect. In fact, with that many purchases you will accumulate many Gold Points and eventually you will be able to buy other games for free which is kind of cool to have a positive outcome out of your truly negative situation.

Be strong and plan carefully your next steps to be sure you will not regret.

Only other way is to go eBay and get the covers and case without the games and used that as replacements.

I just wanted to say thanks for you’re all responses everyone I think this is pretty beautiful that a lot of people are stopping by to tell me it’s ok to feel this way. I all really appreciate all the responses and it makes feel a lot better seriously.

@Solaine Yeah it’s nice that everyone has come by just to say something. That sucks about you’re dvd cases, I’m sure it was quite an investment.

@BlissfulCrook yeah I definitely agree this probably been happening for thousands of years. man I really felt you on that story honestly. Really relatable honestly. I would probably do the same thing if my box showed up in such deep damage. You also have to be the one to open it right? Then it’s ruined and you can’t play it? I’m like that. If someone opens up my stuff then it’s ruined and I just can’t use basically.

The reason why I thought I had OCD is because I have been like this since I was a kid. I recall a particular moment when it was my birthday as a child and I got some books. They got wet because we were at the grocery store, and the books were in the cart and they got wet from the milk cartons. Anyways I really, really didn’t like that. This was the same day I bought them mind you. So I kinda went insane when I saw the books. I just decided to tore them all up lmao. My logic was I’m always gonna see them as wet so I’m just never gonna enjoy them and I’m just gonna save the pain of always seeing that, so I’m just gonna rip them to shreds anyway lol.

That isn’t the last time that happened too. One time my GameCube collection cases got ripped up or something I honestly forget at this point. But either way they didn’t have their art for there cases anymore and just had the discs. Anyways I said “my whole collection is ruined” basically, so I told my younger brother “here use them as ice skates on our concrete floor, I don’t care anymore” lol. Yeah I sure was dumb a kid huh.
