Preferably a Smash Ultimate type situation but that every previous track is present. MK8 Deluxe made a load of progress towards that with the BCP but there's still 70 missing (more if you count Tour's RMX tracks) and the Tour versions of some retro tracks like Sky Garden/Sunset Wilds weren't very good

If anything I almost want the opposite. Assuming backwards compatibility Mario Kart 8 will still be on my Switch 2 with a fairly deep track selection already. And with NSO already having the SNES, GBA, N64 versions and the potential for DS, GC and Wii maybe down the line? If I really want to play a retro track it's not like I won't be able to

So personally I kinda want them to maybe just not have retro tracks at all. Make entirely new tracks that show off what the Switch 2 can do. I want to be impressed in the same way I was when I first played Cloudtop Cruise. Also I kinda liked how in a lot of the DLC tracks in 8 we had some other franchises featured. F-Zero, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Excitebike, Yoshi's Island, Splatoon. Why stop there? Why not go full on Smash Bros on the track list? Kirby, Kid Icarus, Metroid, Pikmin, Xenoblade etc. Go silly and throw in a Ring Fit Adventure track or something. Why not?

I think Mario Kart 8’s huge, diluting DLC has more or less forced a reboot for the next one, not to mention taken all the excitement out of revisiting old tracks.

I genuinely can’t be arsed if I see the same 50-150cc structure again. We can all agree that the underwater/gliding portions of each course are the least fun, so I’d like to say goodbye to the all in one super karts and introduce 3 or 4 vehicle types. Get me on the water in some kinda tricked out hovercraft, speedboat or gondola. Fluctuating water levels and conditions. Give us wave race without giving us wave race.

It’s not happening, but I’ll get excited about it anyway, cheers.

The only thing I’d like to see is more complex track surfaces that give a wider range of variable conditions. Instead of whole courses with ice or sand, provide a more scattered experience with more intense physics, particles, after effects from driving through those sections. Like maple treeways leaf piles but much more impressive. Drive across a stream or next to a water fall and water splashes up and everyone feels that. Shy guy falls was interesting in concept but they could make something like that more impressive looking and feeling. Get rid of blooper ink and replace it with more dynamic sources of spray occlusion. Track sloshing with paint surfaces with obstacles to spill and splatter in finger painting fashion. That’s how I’d use the extra computing; tracks surfaces that feel alive and interactive in creative ways.

I am a Mario Kart fan since Super Mario Kart. As I have said on other Mario Kart threads, I would love Mario Kart to be a racing game again, like Double Dash -the pinnacle-, where you actually feel the controls and the physics. Mario Kart 8 does not feel like a racing game and I say this with disappointment, because of the money I spent on it: Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 8 DLC, Mario Kart 8 DX and Mario Kart 8 DX DLC. The zero-gravity areas are 100% gimmicky. Besides, as someone has mentioned above, the gliding and underwater sections are terrible, especially if you compare them to Diddy Kong Racing and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

@Banjo- I completely agree. Yours is the only response that reflects what I'm feeling too

Well. We are a Wii U family here. 'been playing Mario Kart 8 since 2014. So 10 years now. I would say my entire family is ready for the next version of Mario Kart. LOL.

I have to admit that I like being able to hold 2 items with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. And the new tracks.

I know there is a thread around here that was asking this questions years ago. And I only remember a couple of things I put on that list.

Wish List

1) Two players in 1 kart, like was possible on the Game Cube version of the game (Mario Kart Double Dash.)

This was great when our youngest wasn't able to drive the karts yet, but wanted to play with us parents and her older sister. She was able to take part in gaming, and we all had a lot of fun.

It got to the point where my handicap was that my youngest was the passenger in my kart, but she would do whatever she could do to make me crash. LOL. So while we were going over a bridge she would try to bump our kart off the bridge. Or she would throw the items in front of us in hopes that I would crash into them. LOL.

I just think this is such a great way to let younger siblings play along with everyone.

2) Randomly generated courses. Sort of like a Rally Mode where you don't know what is going to happen in the course, but before a turn a sign shows up to show you what is up ahead.

This is so that it can even the playing field of those that play the game a lot and those that do not. So those that play a lot don't have the advantage of knowing the course / map and can go faster because they know what the next turn is going to be.

Other than that . . . I would say more tracks!

1. It's not Mario Kart. It's something like Mario Flyers, and the whole title is flight based.

2. If it is Mario Kart, I want a track editor for racing and pvp.

3. Revisit the Double Dash gimmick. After the Mario movie, I think this is obviously where they are going. There might even be bosses with multiple enemies on massive karts that take multiple attacks to disable.

More Mario characters instead of Nintendo Kart

I believe people are overthinking it when it comes to the next Mario Kart. I just want a new Mario Kart to exist, period. Seriously, it'll feel so refreshing just to play a brand-new Mario Kart game after playing 8 for over a decade.

But I have ideas, even if they're nothing wild. I'd be OK with more crossover characters in Mario Kart. It'll still be "Mario Kart" and not "Nintendo Kart" because the vast majority of characters will still be Mario ones.

I believe it's time for Mario Kart to have a story mode. The crossover characters could even play a key role in that. The plot wouldn't have to be anything epic, maybe just stopping Bowser from making everything into Bowser's Castle and saving the legendary Rainbow Roads.

Battle Mode should be bigger and better than ever. Missions could return in some capacity unless the story mode incorporated them on a grander scale. My most wanted feature is wearing costumes like in Mario Kart Tour. More karts and parts are expected. The new Mario Kart should absolutely be a launch title if possible.

I've even made a roster of 70 characters. It has the whole roster from 8 and most of the roster from Tour. R.O.B. would be a returning character from DS. Here are newcomers I added.
1. Prince Florian
2. Ninji
3. Penguin
4. Cranky Kong
5. Octoling (Octoling Girl and Octoling Boy)
6. Tom Nook
7. Zelda (with her long hairstyle from Breath or short hairstyle from Tears)
8. Kirby
9. Samus
10. Pit
11. Olimar
12. Fox
13. Captain Falcon
14. PAC-MAN
15. Sonic
A couple of third party guests might be a big stretch, but hey; there's already Mii costumes of PAC-MAN and Sonic!

A better skill ceiling in terms of both track design and controls.

@kkslider5552000 amen, that was really neat and added a lot of appeal when your siblings and buddies weren't around to pick up and play.

Yes. That sounds pretty cool. What types of games did you have in mind?

+1

Would these be single player mode or multiplayer mode?

I guess there are quite a few battle mode options for multiplayer.

So it could be nice to have single player things to do, similar to a NES Remix, except for Mario Kart stunts.

Like trying to drive over the top of the bridge in Double Dash Mushroom Bridge (within a set amount of time.) . . . or going through the waterfall on Yoshi Circuit.

I'm largely on board with the idea of "Super Smash Kart" - mega loads of fan service. Get those fantastic songs from games like Earthbound in use while you drive through Fourside into the wacky upside down Moonside. Loads of incidental fan service details like everything in the Yoshi's Island course.

The other idea would be to go DKCR on it. I don't mean in the sense of an explorable hub - I mean in the sense of the way that weapon upgrades are collected and balanced (DKCR had less powerful weapons in general but the upgrade system gave the game a risk/reward that the random items of Mario Kart lacks. It made DKCR a more skill based game. The extra hold item sands just a tiny bit of the edge off that).

Realistically I don't see Nintendo doing this. They clearly see (and have repeatedly doubled down on the idea of) Mario Kart having a large element of luck.
