We all KNOW we are going to get a new Mario Kart title for the newest Nintendo system but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is already very high up their in terms of how much it continues to sell, how it plays, etc.

So how would the next title even be? Anti-gravity was a new mechanic as well as 200cc, so it's hard to say what they could come up with

What new mechanic can they create? Maybe bring back past mechanics as an option? Hard to predict

For characters, I'm not too picky (though less clones this time please)

One thing i hope though is more customization, i liked seeing the characters having different outfits in Tour and many recent sports titles show the cast in different attire, so maybe racing gear appropriate to racing while also having different costume options?

Track selection, again not picky, same with karts

And what about modes? Definitely more single player modes IMO

So, what do you guys exactly want in the next Mario Kart title?

Story mode. More Nintendo characters a la Smash. Multiple weapon slots that you can cycle through and use what you want, when you want. Maybe some kind of elimination/99 style mode?

Anti-Matter

1. Vehicle Transformation
2. Three different vehicles (Land, Air, Water)
3. More Mii outfits option
4. Customable tracks (ModNation Racers style)
5. Different special abilities from each characters (Chocobo Racing)

Rhythm gonna hit your head.

I have no clue how or what they'll do to separate the next game from MK8 but I'm sure they'll find a way. I think they should do something different but not so different that it makes the game worse cause of it. I'd love for there to be more worth to the coins too. A shop like Crash Team Racing Nitro Fuelled with new kart parts and alternate costumes could be neat, so long as items don't rotate daily like in NF and you can buy whatever whenever. A single player campaign or a mission mode would be great as well.

I'd like for a lot of Tour's ideas to make it over in some way. Reverse tracks are a must-have, and it'd be neat if they decided to bring over trick and reverse/trick variants as well. I also think the combo mechanic would be a neat thing to incorporate into a side mode - maybe a score attack, but it'd be a neat objective in a mission mode if they decide to revisit that as well (which Tour essentially already did).

Otherwise, I want them to really lean hard into the Mario universe at large. I wouldn't be against them expanding the crossover focus, but I'd prefer it if that was its own IP. I just think there's ample potential with what we have now, given all the spinoffs they could work with in some way and all the interesting locales we have in the series. Something akin to Mario Kart 7, which based quite a few of its new tracks on other games (Shy Guy Bazaar is based on Super Mario Bros. 2, Piranha Plant Slide is based on World 1-2 from Super Mario Bros., Wario Shipyard gives Wario Land a bit of love, DK Jungle is based on Donkey Kong Country Returns, etc.). I would love to see them adapt the modern Paper Mario aesthetic for a track.

Probably more battle maps (we should have 24 total), more characters on top of 8 Deluxe’s roster (such as Cranky Kong, Kirby, Olimar, Paper Mario/Luigi, Piranha Plant, Goomba, Paratroopa, Toadsworth, Boo, King K. Rool, Dixie Kong), more costumes for more characters, more courses, and maybe a new battle mode or something.

>12 player races (20 or 24 probably) would be cool if done right. That would be a very interesting feature.

A dedicated online mode for weapon-less racing. No more of weaponless-racing being restricted to the confusing patchwork of most-dead communities.

I'd also like to see Mario Kart Tour's many alternate costumes for all the characters. Maybe even have special items return from Mario Kart: Double Dash. A story/adventure mode would be great as well... there could also be Grand Prix cups and missions in it. I did like the adventure modes in Diddy Kong Racing and Crash Team Racing, after all.

One minor feature I'd like to see is a practice course for players to drive on before online races, just like how in Splatoon 3, you can practice with your weapon while you're being matched up. Maybe have SNES Mario Circuit 1 be the practice course since it is quite basic. Having multiple music tracks while you're racing would be great too, much like how Sonic Generations has a variety of different music to pick from while you play its levels.

Oh and if anybody at Nintendo is reading this... please get rid of the blooper item. I used to not dislike it as much when Mario Kart DS came out, but as I get older, I've been disliking it more and more. I hate not being able to see, and it's made learning Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's DLC courses (particularly the ones from Tour) more difficult. And yes... I think the blooper is worse than the blue shell.

Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I'd like to know you first. Thanks! ❤️

I want captain Olimar with 16 different color alts driving a onion themed race car and if I don’t get what I want, I am going to sue Nintendo and represent myself in court without a lawyer

Definitely a story mode.

And it would be neat if there were 'real' water and air sections that were interesting rather than the current just glide a bit/just go under water a bit.

player-made course mode would be really neat but it would have to be either very simple options or in a retro style.

Hammer Bro. as a playable character, that's all I want.

In all seriousness, maybe something like the R or X tracks from Mario Kart Tour.

Rusty's Real Deal Baseball is now a hidden gem of the Nintendo 3DS.

A return to simplicity. A grounding of mechanics and complexity. There is no way to up the ante on 8. It's like how Resident Evil became action heavy in 5 and 6, so (for several reasons) they returned to the slower moody style of the originals. Or Assassin's Creed with Odyssey and Valhalla. They brought it back to basics with Mirage. This isn't a 1:1 comparison to Mario Kart, but my point is that the series would benefit from a new (probably old) entry. Personally, I would also love to bring back the Double Dash mechanic, but I don't actually expect. The physics in Double Dash were really different and fun too.

I definitely want more unique single player content. Barring maybe DS, that's something Mario Kart has always been behind on compared to many other racing games, sometimes even from Nintendo on the same system. I often point out that despite being the best Mario Kart at the time, Double Dash was only the 4th best racing game I played on Gamecube in the 2nd half of 2003, because it was so lacking in content.

Remove the coin as an obtainable item from the itembox(they still can exist on the tracks) and less tour tracks.

Mario Kart 8/DX is so fantastic I love it. I love being able to use bikes and I like the way it feels. So honestly, I hope they make a new one that has a similar feel and we still have bikes. I definitely want a brand new MK on this next system.

Although I mentioned some specific things, I've been impressed at the sheer level of creativity Nintendo has managed in the last year ish with Zelda, Peach and Mario. If they manage to similarly do something completely unexpected with Mario Kart I would be totally in favor even if didn't include any of my particular wishlist.

I definitely DON'T want it to feature live-service-style battle passes or any of the other online MP standards of the day. I'd also prefer it if the tracks remained readable (something I think the Tour courses did a poor job with).
Love me 200cc, so I hope they keep that. I like the idea of leaning more into Mario's world, rather than turning it into Smash Kart, especially because there's so much depth to be mined. Most of the enemy and track variety is pretty surface-level-referential, and we've had a whole Odyssey since 8 was originally released. I'd like it if the character selections got a little crazier, too. Cappy, driving a go-kart? A tostarenan on the field? Nori and Pinatas? That black bird thing that sat on a circle in the Yoshi games?
The game's mechanics don't necessarily have be be more inventive, but I'd sure love it if some of the other choices were!

Preferably a Smash Ultimate type situation but that every previous track is present. MK8 Deluxe made a load of progress towards that with the BCP but there's still 70 missing (more if you count Tour's RMX tracks) and the Tour versions of some retro tracks like Sky Garden/Sunset Wilds weren't very good.

Sure it causes problems for Mario Kart on Switch 3 but I have no doubt Nintendo would be able to do something really cool and unique that makes reduced lineup less painful.
