A fairly fancy 8” tablet display, but still no freely accessible browser. It’s odd. You pay a lot of money for this tablet type tech and the browser is locked away from you because to Nintendo, a browser is first and foremost a tool for hacking and you shall not access it. It’s kind of messed up. I don’t like the idea of supporting the locking away of the browser in computer tech as advanced as this is, with an expensive mouse and everything
@NinChocolate I think Nintendo doesn't have a web browser app for two main reasons. It's a big security issue for the console. And a browserless console is more family friendly, so a parent can trust their kid isn't wandering, or blundering, to shady parts of the internet unsupervised. An ignorant kid may do things with a console browser that you would never do, or click on, because you know better.
The major reason the browser is locked to system applications is because of Nintendo’s concern for vulnerability.
Parental controls should be the mechanism that locks out the browser.
No, it’s not a selling point. People aren’t thinking of the web browser when they buy a Nintendo device because they likely already have access.
However, browser support is standard for home gaming devices and tablet type devices because internet access is so integrated into these devices. It’s incredibly standard and useful when focusing on single device. Nintendo locks it out because they know enough people will give them a pass and thus they won’t have to pay for user level maintenance and support of the feature. But I feel they lag behind what other gaming devices offer and what they have offered in the past.
It's all about the hacking, Nintendo are terrified of this and the running of any emulators on Switch 2 hardware, they are still fighting to shut down the original Switch emulators Yuzu & Ryujinx on PC in fact I think that they closed Yuzu down not so sure about Ryujinx, anything like this on Switch 2 would be a disaster for Nintendo even any media streaming (and I don't just mean YouTube) would also distract users from the focus of the console. I can live without it as I have a PC and get all my media elsewhere, it would be nice though were Nintendo to have a change of mind here, but I wouldn't hold your breath however as it's extremely unlikely that we'll ever see a browser on a Nintendo console.
@Dhaladog This. Its perfect. Its also why they dont allow sd card backups for gamesaves. Its scummy as hell. They have done it for two generations now.
