Bleh, I shouldn't have watched that direct. I kind of wish they didn't show the time skip stuff and "true protagonist"

Add me on switch if you like Xenoblade :)

One thing I will say, and I dunno if this is normalisation through exposure or if this is just a later build, but the combat animations seemed way better in this direct than some of the stuff we've seen in the character reveals on socials.

Yea, I'm more confused about the plot, but that's fine.

It looks AMAZING - even little things like the small movements the character portraits make when they pop up with the dialogue; everything seems so expressive.

The combat gameplay looks to be classic Fire Emblem, so yea... good for that lol

The dungeon system looks SO cool - different enough to be refreshing but nothing crazy that can be totally busted/janky.

It seems like a Fire Emblem that is gonna let you "breathe" a bit in between battles like Three Houses, but perhaps less heavy on funneling you into the social stuff if you don't want to do that.

Yeah I think that big board game thing, the dungeons, the big hub area, like if that part isn't the "real game" I just sort of don't understand what to expect from this. Like is this game going to be like 100 hours long for a single playthrough or is all of that pre-timeskip stuff actually a one and done like few hours thing, cause if so, it just feels weird. Unless its somehow all used in the post timeskip stuff aswell.

Woo I am ready. That dye job that Seteth got is hilarious (Granted, his actual sister did it first.) . I have a TON of lore questions, but the gameplay and story progression looks solid. Also the OST is sounding great so that will be where my money goes.

Poor Rhea, getting shown up on how resurrection/creation works. (Granted her lack of ability was her entire problem anyway. ) I wonder if Shamir ever made it back home. Also their gods might not be as different as she led us to believe.

@Ryu_Niiyama Does it seem like knowing nothing about Seteth/3 Houses would affect my enjoyment of the story? My last time with FE was Fates: Birthright

@buzzhoney I don’t think I can answer that. It looks like the whole 4 starting protags and different setting gives newcomers a new starting point and a lot of people simply ignore FE lore/story and just fight, but the game is very much set in the 3 Houses/3 Hopes universe (Granted, 3 centuries later…). But I simply don’t have your perspective to answer that question. Nintendo/IS is not trying to alienate newcomers though so I suspect they thought about that when they chose the story. Plus time travel. They could do anything.

Perhaps the developer’s interview will give more insight for you.

whats the deal with passing the time to gain exp? Also limitless rewinding?
Seems like its going to be an easy game.

@Pizzamorg that’s my confusion as well.

The other question is they said that depending on who you pick will alter the story, but then later they reveal you can freely switch, at least in the first half of the game. So is this gonna be like a Cyberpunk situation where you get like a bonus mission on the front end of the game exclusive to each of the four heroes and thats it? Cause I don't know how your choices can affect the story if you're potentially playing a different hero every mission, the story surely needs to be written with every hero moving through an identical arc if thats the case.

I only watched part of the Direct (everything except for the end section that apparently is story spoilers). I genuinely think this is going to be so much better than Three Houses. The calendar mechanic actually has a proper reason to exist beyond just giving you designated times to train allies. You actually have multiple towns that you can freely visit, and the return of dungeons as well. Each route can be played simultaneously too, which means you don't have to replay the game over and over in order to get the full narrative.

I really feel like this is a massive expansion on Three Houses and Engage, and I can't wait to get a chance to play it.

@cr1tical_h4ze Rewinding isn't limitless. You need a resource or currency to do it this time around from the look of things. "Sacred sand." As for the exp, it looks like the roster of units for this game will be massive so it's probably there to help train units that you aren't going to be needing in battle all the time.

I am a bit worried about the stages and story. Normally you go from one area to the other, meeting characters along the way, stuff happens, etc. But now it all takes place in one big arena, every battle is just another round in the arena. Will they all have the same look? Luckily there are still the battles on the world map, but is that enough? I don't think there will be any major story events happening on the world-map.

I am pretty nervous in the other direction 😂 that I will be loving the heroic games portion of the game, and it turns out to just be a few hours long and then the bulk of the game is post time skip and something else entirely.

Looks very interesting to me as someone who never finished a FE game before. I just started the FE available on NSO and was surprised by how gripping it was. Will definetly finish that one before I buy Fortunes Weave, but its on my wishlist for sure.

@Henmii From what the trailers have shown, a lot of the battles in the arena maps seem to have a varied layout and set pieces. I also assume that not all important fights will end up happening in the arena, but that it's only a temporary stage for the story until things shift halfway through.

@XenobladeKisekiFan We're really returning to 3DS era Fire Emblem. I've seen a lot of people liken this game to a reverse Fire Emblem Awakening.

Did you watch the Direct?

More specifically, the end of the Direct?

This game looks fantastic, but I'm a bit worried about the whole True Protagonist bit. I'm assuming Eshmel won't be making an appearance until after the Timeskip, which is an absurdly long time to wait for the player character. I liked Byleth because their story intrigued me from the start. Slapping the protag in the middle of the game makes me wonder how well written they'll be and how they'll make me care about them.

Male Eshmel is voiced by Joshua Waters by the way. Qi'Frey is going to be in the game lol. (If you haven't watched the dub of Witch Hat Atelier, I highly recommend it.)

Interestingly, Virginia Lee will be voicing Female Eshmel, and as far as I can tell, she's completely new to the industry. I can't seem to find any prior VA work she's done.

@VoidofLight the 3ds fire emblem era was the best for fire emblem in my opinion, I spent atleast 300 hours on fates completing all routes in that game many years ago,
Also fire emblem echoes 3ds was amazing too.

@TerribleTerabytes, Joshua Walters also voiced Gilbert in Atlus's unicorn overlord.

Xeno series = max hype.
Falcom series = max enjoyment.

VoidofLight

@TerribleTerabytes My guess is that the protagonist won't really be much of a factor in the whole thing. I just hope it won't be a case where all the characters start worshipping them because of their divine nature. Had enough of that with Engage.
