@VoidofLight used one of my boons on plus experience maybe that helped me get Cai to 41 and all but three of the recruits- learned from my mistakes doing Leda’s Act 1 and am still learning stuff. Some of the recruits disappeared in last month for Cai. There’s a bunch of level 35 encounters in southeast corner of map that kept respawning but it’s a long trip.

I made my Cai light cavalry and gave them a Levin Sword and they wipe entire maps. I had to reclass them into a worse, non mounted, class in the hope the rest of my party can actually kill stuff and catch up, as he is like 10 levels ahead of my entire roster.

Okay, I have my first complaint. I officially think the recruitment process is way too demanding. It’s so much work to get the person I want to a Level 3 Bond AND get enough Renown to convince them, but some of them ALSO require a gift???

I tried to Recruit Ninae and Nuzzuo but one wants some rare fish that I have no idea where to find and the other wants three iron bows that I currently can’t get.

Like jeez…lay OFF game. This is straight up obnoxious and bad design. I shouldn’t feel like I wasted my time grinding affinity because the game stuck an artificial wall in my way that I had no way of knowing about. It’s so stupid.

The affinity grind isn't really that bad, at least once you get past your first playthrough. You start learning what gifts are effective for what characters, and how to maximize your time each week to raise your affinity relatively early on (before even having the renown to recruit).

I will say some of the actual negotiation requirements are iffy. Especially on Cai's route, where you can't actually get all of the stuff you need easily.

@VoidofLight the story is good so far, playing other factions after finishing one is a great idea because all the perks and rewards i unlocked in cais route has carried over which makes progressing a lot easier, I have gotten to chapter 5 so far and there is some missable content in ledas route mostly events in dagsion when walking around.

@wooferjones unlocking all characters has its perks because you can farm supports after finishing chapter 10 just redo that chapter again to farm supports that way you can see all supports in the game,

Yes, the hidden requirements can be annoying, but you've got until the end of part one to fulfill them, and finding things like food and weapons shouldn't be that troublesome by the time you've got most of the map unlocked.

Just be wary of recruiting characters who need high renown and have challenging requirements, because you'll be running out of time by the time you figure out what you need to do, and it's probably going to be a full-on sidequest that takes you to the other side of the continent.

Bearing in mind that you're a long way into the game before you get to field more than six characters anyway, late recruiting seems the way to go, as you're going to struggle otherwise to keep everyone leveled up, equipped and trained. They won't be as good as your core team, but you'll have the rest of the game to fix them.

@TerribleTerabytes there’s a few that make you get more than one gift or clear more the one area(out and back, repeat). It’s a rude surprise the first time this happened when I was only a few turns from the end and not enough turns so I had to restart chapter.

Is theodora's route the least enjoyable, I have seen players praising cai, leda and dietrich's routes but not much praise towards theodora's route

@VoidofLight I wish the little description showed if you can give a gift or not(when you switch from map view to recruit list view), it already shows the support and renown stats, and when warping between recruits it should keep your place instead of always scrolling to top of list.

@Matt_Barber thanks for the tips

There is atleast 3-4 characters that have very limited supports:

Kiroc, Inyoni, Sophia, Nuzko and Catania

I checked this guide to help me to figure out the support pool, at the bottom of the characters page on this website it tells what character they can support and you can see that Inyoni can support only 1 character

I do think a lot of the criticism around recruitment comes from a less than genuine place. Not having a roster of 10+ people three chapters into your route isn't a fault of the game, you're trying to force a situation the game physically isn't designed to do.

The game provides you with most information up front to allow you to plan ahead, the renown you need, the bond, the level of difficulty the bonus step will be for this character, so you can make informed choices as you go along to make sure you can recruit most characters as soon as they come online in that specific route.

Trying to force them into your team too early, or failing to plan properly and running out of turns to finish your recruitments is your problem, not the games. You also don't need everybody on every route, there aren't enough slots in battles and the game basically has no supports so making yourself miserable to add ten dudes that'll never leave your bench like come on man.

And that's not to say it's all flawless or above criticism. I think Cai might have the worst recruitment experience out of any of the routes cause you'll be at the right Renown level but the recruit wants some material you can't easily access unless you wanna waste turns chasing merchants around the map trying to find crates and turning it into a gacha game where you try and pull the material you need from the pull. Like that feels like something is actively wrong there in the design because you basically can't achieve their recruitment requirements at their renown level so it feels like characters come online in the wrong places.

But beyond specific criticisms like that, I just think people are so used to using cheese stats in THs to brute force the game into doing things it wasn't really designed to do, people having to play FW as actually intended while y'all wait for the cheese stats to crystallize seem to got people in knots.

I haven't had trouble recruiting people. I'm about to enter my 3rd colosseum match and I have 13 characters in my team. I have one additional recruit ready to go as soon as I get some additional funds, another needs one more gift for level 3 affinity and couple more aren't far behind. I'm just picking them up as I go. It's not like I can use everyone either, due to limited party slots.

I don't pay much attention to renown. There's only so much you can get each chapter. I don't see a need to go out of my way for the scraps. I'm sure I have enough by the end of it. And if for whatever reason I don't, then I don't. Simple as that.

I'm still on act 1 fortunes weave so I don't know if more support convos unlock in the second part of the game but I do find it intrusting that some of the voice actors had to do barely any work depending on which character they voiced, for example kiroks voice actor probably did the least voice acting, out of all the characters and same is probably true for Inyoni's va

I'm curious if this was a budgetary issue that a certain amount of money was allocated to voice acting, so the programmers were only allowed to have a certain amount of supports this could explain why some characters only have 1 voiced support and others have more.

In comparison, three houses had pretty much the same amount of voiced supports for every character in the cast.

This is definitely something I would hope is addressed in future dlc, is more voiced supports

It really sucks for Inyoni for me, cause not only is her design gorgeous, but on my Theodora route, her and Noctula are basically the main characters for me. My twin demons who wash over the map disintegrating all in their path, yet they have zero role basically outside of battle in that route. Like almost no supports, no presence in cutscenes.

@Pizzamorg I really liked her design when I saw her at the end of cais route but when I checked her support list, she can only talk to dadao so I didn't bother recruiting her as she joins late

She is considered one of fortunes weave's most strongest units, its a pity she doesn't get more screen time yet supports

Does the cutscene and animation direction get better further along into the game? I started today, just started with Theodora and the way dialog and characters are presented so far is...really bad.
Voice acting isn't very good, either. Just curious if it's just this way at the start and the game's presentation picks up later on or not. Because what I've seen so far doesn't grab me at all.

Pizzamorg

@Dom_31 There are like big 3D CG cutscenes, but they are used pretty sparingly. I personally love the English dub though, and this is from someone who usually hates dubs. You can switch it to Japanese in the main menu though if you want the OG experience.

@Pizzamorg The game does NOT give you all of the required information. Again, some make you buy or get certain items before they accept. In Ninae’s case, I needed a Rare Paradise Fish before she would officially join.

I’ve been managing the Renown and Affinity levels well but this third requirement is SO STUPID because it legitimately doesn’t tell you until you need it. The most it says is “Negotiation: Hard”.

TerribleTerabytes

Pizzamorg

@TerribleTerabytes yes it warns you the negotiation is difficult and the negotiation is difficult. Although that one isn't that hard as long as RNG is in your favour. You just gotta fight through the dungeon first to get the lake. Or at least I think that's that one anyway.

Anyway, I put what I said to the test and played through Act 2 again, this time as Leda. It definitely was easier having a bonus Lord, and easier because I knew the solutions to the puzzles this time, but Chapter 5 of Act 2 remains an absolute ***** of a chapter to clear. Trying to keep the two hues recruits on chapter 3 of Act 2 alive too, I just gave up, so difficult.

What's odd to me is that it feels like in some cases two characters supports end with it setting up for a B or A support that doesn't exist? At least- one of the characters I have currently has only a C support with another character, and at the end it doesn't really resolve in the slightest. It just sits there with a line that implies it could've continued.

I wonder if it really is an issue with them over-extending on the roster. If they were originally wanting 60 characters who had fleshed out supports, but either the budget of the game or scope of the project was too large for them to be able to do that without cutting corners. I don't think we'll get a DLC that addresses these supports (nor would I want it unless its free, because it feels like that would be an iffy tactic), but it is odd how they handle it in this game.
