According to this article Square Enix is considering localizing DQ VII and VIII for the west, but nothing is official yet. It may depend on how well DQ Heroes sells on PS4.

I don't own a PS4 so I cannot help the cause. However, it seems strange to me that Square would use sales of an action RPG on the PS4 to determine whether or not two traditional RPGs will sell on the 3DS. It may be the same franchise, but they are very different games on very different systems. Sales data from traditional RPGs on the 3DS (i.e. Bravely Second) would be much more useful I would think.

I've never played a DQ game, but I always was interested. The either never made it to Europe, don't get localised at all, or were released on a system I didn't own at the time. I've given up on the localisation of DQ X as well...

On topic: It is strange to use a spin-off / cross-over sales data to determine interest in the main franchise.

This is so silly. Why use a spinoff to gauge interest for a game that isn't even on the same system? And while I hope the game sells well I don't think it is going to pull a Hyrule warriors sort of draw. Oh well it comes out in the US on my bday so I'm getting it even if I don't have a Ps4 by then.

Well, I own eight Dragon Quest games. Do any of those count as "interest" in the series?

Come on, SE. Quit being losers. You know damn well people outside of Japan want to play these games.

@Ryu_Niiyama Yeah, this kind of logic fails on every level, and to me, seems more like a push to make fans buy a game they might not be interested in to get the one they want - and in case of Dragon Quest Heroes, it's a Musou-type spinoff, of all things. The general popularity might have risen in recent years, but Musou-types are still a niche genre that has a very hard time selling well. Marvelous did the same with Senran Kagura 2, stating that sales figures of the VITA spinoff will determine whether it's worth it or not.
