Topic: SEGA Is In Serious Financial Trouble And Will Be Downsizing or Shutting Down Many of Their Entertainment Divisions...

Yikes there's been breaking news this morning and it's not looking good for SEGA or any of their sister companies and partners as SEGA SAMMY has announced that they will be scaling back or shutting down the many of their entertainment division teams with the exception of Team Sonic following an extremely grim financial report. Here's the source: http://www.tssznews.com/2015/01/30/sega-to-undergo-structure-...

Also remember that ATLUS was recently bought by SEGA SAMMY so they might be gravely affected by this situation, anyways what are your thoughts regarding this? I'd really like to see what everyone thinks about this news.

Rumor has it that 1,500 to 1,750 jobs will also be lost with 120+ workers being offered voluntary retirement with full retirement benefits.

Edit: It also appears that SEGA SAMMY's "Amusement division" will also be greatly affected by this major restructuring of the corporation.

If they did go under, I would hope that Atlus would be picked up by a company with decent bankroll and level-headed management.

Shame no such entertainment company exists in Japan. Every major Japanese video game publisher has a serious case of the dumb these days. Too bad Atlus doesn't have the capital to go independent.

And people still say Nintendo should go third party...

Dang, maybe Sega could try selling some IPs they never use to try to stay afloat?

So every IP except Sonic?

I'm actually surprised that Sega of America had so much staff on hand anyway. Outside of Sonic, they localize/market a game once every few years.

AM2 is the only great part of Sega left.

(I think they did Hatsune Miku and Future Stars: Project Mirai 3DS surprisingly or unsurprisingly).

Also what they actually said is completely different to what is being reported.

They are still going to make a profit.

I hope Sonic Boom wasn't the icing on the cake that caused this. That would be a heavy burden for BigRedButton to bear

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

I hope all the people who were laid off can find jobs soon. It's a bad thing when companies have to let go of their employees.

The Wii U still hasn't outsold the Sega Dreamcast or even the Sega Saturn.

What does a mismanaged company like Sega, which releases crappy games, have to do with Nintendo going third party?

I hope they find jobs as well but I'm pretty sure Wii U has sold more then both DreamCast and Saturn and is quickly catching up to GameGear based on the 9.2 million sold report from the finacials.

Sad for the workers who will lose their jobs, hopefully some of the IP's can be saved from extinction.

And Nintendo didn't destroy themselves like Sega did. Your point?

Nintendo, please do yourself a favour and buy Sega.

My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."

LzWinky

Or just buy the IPs and save Atlus from this management crap

Why would anyone want to buy a failing company? Buy assets!

When THQ went under, nobody bothered making an offer on the company. They just all swooped in like vultures and picked the bones clean, buying whatever IP they could.

Ok I try not to make the "Nintendo should buy x" comments. But Nintendo needs to save Sega Sammy from themselves. I need Virtua Fighter!

Thanks for the info. It looks like it's not quite as bad as the earlier reports were letting on, but it's definitely a dicey situation for SEGA and especially ATLUS.

There is only AM2 and AM1 left and AM1 makes those prize machines.
