Discord as an Xbox supplement?
Microsoft has invested many billions of dollars in the expansion of the Xbox platform and gaming service, and Redmond is even not afraid of taking over entire game studios. One example is the holding company ZeniMax Media, which is to be sold to Microsoft for 7.5 billion dollars. Discord, however, is allegedly worth even more, the report talks about 10 billion dollars. Nothing has been decided yet, because Discord still has another option - going public. At the moment, the San Francisco-based provider has more than 100 million active users. Discord, on the other hand, would like to be a platform that gains a foothold in a variety of industries and is no longer just a contact point for gamers.
It feels as though MS regrets missing out on purchasing Twitch before Amazon did back in 2014.
Their purchase of Discord is their second attempt after purchasing (and subsequently folding) Mixer.

As a discord user, I hope to god they don’t buy it. Mainly because of their spotty track record with so many apps similar with discord, and how they could end up screwing discord up just like Skype and the others.

I hear and I am with you!
Who know Discord might be going into the social media realm and will ignore Microsoft.
Skype evolved into Teams, which is pretty decent, albeit only really used by businesses. Discord offers no technology of note that it doesn't have, at least so far as I can tell.
The only thing they could possibly want out of such a deal is to gain the customer base.
@kkslider5552000 That's true as well. I only hope that if it actually happens, someone will make a competitor to discord that's just as good, if not better.

MS has a real rough history of taking solid communication platforms and running them straight into the ground through a series of utterly nonsensical decisions (for example: after buying Skype, they decided to rebrand their existing - and crap - business-focused chat software Lync as "Skype For Business", which looked and behaved almost exactly the same as Skype except for the very minor and not at all wildly confusing fact that Skype and Skype For Business were completely incompatible and ran off completely different backends), so I'm... hoping the same doesn't happen to Discord.
I've had to migrate from perfectly good apps because Microsoft has managed to completely torpedo them twice now (MSN/WLM to Skype, Skype to Discord), I'd rather not have to do it again a year from now

I wouldn’t put MS Teams and decent in one sentence. 😬
Discord in my book is a product for gamers and if MS does take it over it will ether turn into a MS services or striped.
