@Snatcher Phil Fish permanently earned a place on my sh*t list when he did this:
Dude is intolerable, and he'll never see another penny from me.
Jonathan Blow (guy who created Braid and The Witness) is... not as bad, but he's also pretty unlikable. I mean, I know creative types can often be difficult personality-wise, and I try to separate the art from the artist as much as possible, but there's only so much pretentious hipster douchebaggery I can take in condensed form.
Honestly looking back at Phil Fish is really weird nowadays. I mean, despite Phil Fish being an ***hole, in that video there's actually some really valid points that in hindsight everyone agrees with about overly safe, handholding game design holding games back (though let's be honest, most western shooters from that era had comparable issues, if not moreso). Not that I'd be interested in another Phil Fish game (unless he came back with a tolerable attitude). Only reason I have Fez is because of a free giveaway on Epic's store. I just miss the days when a game dev being an insufferable was even a notable event. Innocent times...
There's a documentary called Indie Game: The Movie featuring both Jonathan Blow and Phil Fish, plus the rather more likeable Ed McMillen and Tommy Refenes, that gives some more insights into their characters.
I've got a certain amount of sympathy for them because they've clearly put a lot of their time, money and emotion into their games and aren't just being insufferable arseholes for the sake of it.
This is probably an unpopular opinion now, since many people support this.. but I honestly hope that Link never talks in any Zelda game. People say that it's time to let the character talk, but it'd be too jarring to me. Keep him a silent protagonist who occasionally grunts.. and just make him more emotive or something. I really really don't want to see Link talking in future games..
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
I dunno, I can't say I really followed Phil Fish but I've seen people make far more inflammatory remarks than Japanese games (in the context of at the time) suck and still be teflon in the games industry.
Some of my favourite creators from music, books, movies and comics have said some stupid pish (which has more of a direct connection of artist and art than games do) but as long as I'm not hearing in their next single, book or whatever then it would take something pretty massive and legit to boycott it. I still haven't burnt my copies of Buffy, Firefly and Doll House yet even with what a prick Whedon turned out to be as it would take away a lot of the great work others did on those shows.
@jump JK Rowling is the best example for me. An author of one of the best book series' I have ever seen... but a transphobe and a history revisionist. Ew.

@TheJGG I read maybe 2 Harry Potters and didn't like them so I'm happy for her to be cancelled. GET HER!
Just playing devil's advocate...a few times I've seen you complain about a game/show/movie etc based on the fanbase and having a distaste of the game/show/movie etc itself based on those fans. You've mentioned Among Us, Smash Bros and Rick & Morty if I recall correctly. Isn't that the same thing as cancel culture but just without the moral principal supporting it? ;p
@Zuljaras Whilst she has made real and fair comments on the debate of sex vs gender she has made too many stupid sound bites like you can't let trans women in the toilet as they will just attack women. Really it's her own fault for making stupid comments over and over again and not making her arguement smarter.
@jump This is an argument that is not fit for this site imo I don't want mods coming and deleting comments. I just think that everyone should have an opinion NO matter on which side of it.
Are we not here to hate on games instead of people?
I think battle royale has severely damaged multiplayer gaming in terms of variety. It used to be that multiplayer gaming options were really varied but nowadays its all free to play battle royale games and battle royale modes in paid games where if a game doesn't have a battle royale mode it flops.
Even Nintendo jumped on the battle royale train with Tetris 99, Super Mario Bros. 35 and Pac-Man 99. Splatoon 3 will likely have a battle royale mode.
@Zuljaras What mods? ;p Eel is the only one that takes modding seriously on here now. Tbh as long as people are civil and articulate I don't see a reason why not.
You'd think people are here to hate on games rather than people but the last few pages have been about hating the Among Us fans and hating some indie developer from ten years ago. ;p I actually find just moaning about a game abit boring and I think this thread is the most interesting when it's about bad games are good or how an unconventional approach/mechanic should more common in games.
@jump Haha I had to go few pages back to see that Thank you!
I do not think that it could be civil because every time I say why I do not like certain things on the matter above (in a manner that is NOT hateful) I am met with the following: "homophobe, bigot, hate speech, hater". I mean I get that people want to hear ONLY good things about their lives and how they live them.
Those people want to establish that there is ONLY one way to speak on the matter - positively. Everything other should be canceled, deleted, banned etc.
Now on the point about the bad games being good I have many games that people consider the "worst in the series" or unplayable still I enjoy them quite much. If you have interest I could post it here with explanations why I like them etc.
KeyboardMania was actually a good rhythm game from KONAMI.
It might looks more difficult than Beatmania IIDX or Pop'n Music in term of how many keys being used (KeyboardMania used 24 keys) but the button's density from KeyboardMania was not crazy like Beatmania IIDX / Pop'n Music with very relentless buttons shower from top.
Too bad, it just only until 3rd Mix on year 2001. The game was only lasting 1 year since the first debut on year 2000.

Go for it unless you're trying to explain about how Resident Evil 5 & 6 are actually good ;p
@Ralizah@Snatcher I was about to ask for an example of why Phil Fish was so disliked and, woof, that was a rough watch. As if the problems they mentioned were exclusive to Japanese games. They may have had a point in there someplace, but it gets lost in a cloud of smug. I feel bad for the person asking that question.

Give me a heads-up if you're going to send a request please.
1. Resident evil 6 is better than Resident evil 5 I just had to get that out! I am in the middle of my Leon campaign and I still prefer it to the entire Resident Evil 5. Resident Evil 5 = very very very BAD Resident Evil 4! 6 is just an action game with very nice environments and familiar characters.
2. Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest > Castlevania and Castlevania 3 Dracula's Curse. - I know I might get lynched that I called 2 better than 3 but 3 is unnecessary hard for me. Simon's Quest was my first Castlevania ever and I love the free exploration and the setting. I just with there was a map IN the game
3. Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance is great and better than Circle of the Moon! - This game has so much secrets and rooms! On the contrary to many opinions I LOVED the dual castle feature! I have 100% this game several times!
4. Final Fantasy 1, 2 and 3 are so much better that the other entries! - I prefer a cast of heroes that you just made being thrown in a story to save the world! Exploring and battling cool monsters! In every tier list I see 9 and 7 are on top.
@Zuljaras. Circle of the moon was my first castlevania so you sir owe me a "I take that back." Lol. 😆. I still havent finished portrait of ruin but once I got used to playing as both characters all the time I kind of wished this was an option in all the games. Having to play through the carnival level both times was tortue and the academy wasnt too fun either but so much about the game is really cool.
Gba collection on 3ds was such a missed opportunity. I feel circle of the moon was both the best and worst 2d game. Worst because your character is so weak and its a slow crawl to the top with cards that may or may not spawn quick enough or at all plus you definitely need to grind levels at several points but the same is true of portrait of ruin. Best because hands down castle layout was the best castlevania map layout in general plus the number of enemies match the castle and if you manage to find enough power cards then si does the characters, but definitely the enemies.
You fight multiple versions of death and the last boss plus this game's version of Camilla is the most terrifying and powerful plus there is a battle arena.
I think they would need to change the story so that one of the characters doesn't you know what but I would love a third person view game that recreated circle of the moons entire giant castle and added co-op, since two characters basically share the same moveset and abilities although only one is playable.
