It's funny because the first Hyrule Warriors was also made in such a way where it actually follows the official timeline. The original's story actually only references characters and places that existed in the "child timeline". Even the dlc limited itself to characters from that timeline.

The Legends addition to the story expanded to the other timelines, with the explicit explanation that these places and characters come from different dimensions, as opposed to different eras.

I think it was a really nice gesture from nintendo to introduce Age of Calamity as an official addition to the timeline. It's like, an upgrade for their efforts.

I see some defend the false advertising. Didn’t expect any less.

Don't forget we are also Musou zealots 😊

And Pokemon worshippers. But that's a topic for another day.

Guys, I think Link from Legend of Zelda should totally be customizable.

Euler

@Bronze You can name him Zelda to unlock a kaizoed version of the game. What more could you possibly want?

@Eel It is part of the Zelda canon, just in a standalone splinter from BotW's place in the timeline because of the TARDIS shenanigans.

I've become quite attached to links design myself, so even if the option was available I wouldn't really choose it.

@Euler @BruceCM I think I can respond to both of these commenta with the same answer (I'm gonna try at leaat). I can totally understand why someone would have strong opinions, be it Brie Larson or cancel culture. My grievance is when we let those opinions divide us. I assume we're here because we like video games and Nintendo, and yet people choose to put their beliefs above community. Thats on them, and it's not new and there's no changing it. But it bums me out. It's hard enough to find people to talk to about Super Nintendo games lol

@Guest88 lol how do they get away? There are several class action against them about the joycons. Now why is Sony getting away with the defective hard drives of the PS5? Where are the class actions? Why it's not allowed to talk about it on Sony's forums? "If you want to know who rules over you look at who you are not allowed to criticize"

@glaemay it took only 3 year for Nintendo to finally acknowledge the joycon drift after pretending
otherwise. 3 years. Before the lawsuit they pretty much got away.

“ Now why is Sony getting away with the defective hard drives of the PS5? Where are the class actions? ”

I don’t know and I don’t care. From what i’ve seen is the harddrive defective wasn’t widespread. Go criticize on Sony forum if you isn’t happy.

The ability to change his physical features. Hair color, eye color, face shape, face structure, skin color, ect, ect.

@Bronze problem with that is, Link is a character not a vessel. If you can change Link’s appearance it takes away the importance that the character holds.

Problem with that statement is: Link was not originally supposed to be a character. He was supposed to be an entity that connected the player to his world. It's why his default name is Link. He was supposed to serve as a "Link" from the player's mind to his world. It's why he is a silent protagonist. It's why his default name can be changed in many iterations of the game he appears in. The ability to bring the player to his world: that is the importance of his character and I think making him customizable will only strengthen that importance.

Why stop at names? It would be cool if other things can be changed about him as well. If people like the default, they can keep the default. Meanwhile, I can change him in whatever way I please and since LoZ are typically single player games, my Link won't even interact with your Link or others. This is a win-win scenario with everyone. @Bronze I would love a character customization option personally, especially if that means I can play as Linkle. But for BotW, Link is meant to be a character. You can see that in his personal relationships with Zelda and the champions. In Twilight Princess things were a bit different. There he is basically just a shell to put yourself in. Maybe the next Zelda game after BotW 2 can implement a full on character customization option. If so I’ll be playing as a tall blond and slim girl with turquoise highlights. I don’t know why but she’s my SAO Fatal Bullet avatar so I’ll use her anytime I get the chance😂

I’ll also say that a character doesn’t have to have a customizable appearance to be a “link” to you in real life. The Luminary and Ness do the same thing, but they have specific character designs that are made to fit in and be that character.

@Blooper987 Oh yeah. In that case, I completely agree with you. The Link in BOTW has set identity, especially whenever the character speak of his name while voiced. I'm not talking about changing any Link from the past games. I'm talking about being able to customize him in a new world or time set apart from the previous ones.

Link isn't like Super Mario or Batman or something. He grows old, dies, and is born again to a new family. It wouldn't be too far fecthed to say that he may or may not look different with each incarnation. This phenomenon already happens to him if you look at his hair color, which goes from blonde to brown in different games. If I'm correct, his hair was even pink one time.

To your second point, yeah, Ness and Luminary were not customizable, but it would only help if they were. I'm not saying this idea should be an absolutely big deal or feature, just something Nintendo could throw in and then keep the game moving like how Capcom does in Monster Hunter.

Personally I'm very much against the idea of a customisable Link - he's just too iconic a character. And, as mentioned, lots of games get away with a fixed character design that still works as a vessel for the player - see Persona as a great additional example (although something could be said about including extra gender/dating options here for inclusivity).

Tbf I'm probably biased as I generally find customisable characters to be quite ugly, and I'm one who often defaults to the, erm, default options in video games. If the choice is between a character created by a professional designer, a version of myself, or my own unique character, I'll always go for the first option. I'm not creative or even interested enough to go with the third option, and to play as a version of myself all the time is pretty dull tbh (especially since I personally don't have the most striking physical features).

At least 2'8".

@timleon

This iconic character have already went through a lot of tweaks and changes in his physical appearance. Having default appearances only as a vessel is done in many games, but custimization would not hurt. The worst that could happen is that it becomes a featured that is ignored. Heck, adding the feature in games like persona is probably not done because they would then have to redraw every cutscene the character appears in. This is not the case for Zelda if they handle the scenes like they did with BOTW, where they use and animate the 3D model of the character instead of drawing out the scenes.

If it's a personal thing, that's you and I can't argue against that, but in terms of trying something new and experimenting with new features, I don't see the downside of trying custom Link out for the next LoZ world after BOTW2.

Again, since LoZ is generally a single player game, you won't have to see other people's version of Link.

Customizing my character in nearly any single player game is a waste of my time ultimately. Not inherently a bad waste of my time, but something that doesn't matter at all to me.

I'm not inherently against it, but unless they go all Mass Effect with it, it just seems like a waste of time and a way to make Link even less of a character, so meh. Spend that time working on anything else in a Zelda game.

Well, again. That's a personal argument and again, Link is not usually designed to be a character in the first place. If the majority of the other features are completed in the game, character customization seems like a pretty cheap and fun feature to implement. If you don't want to use it, it wont be a waste of time at all. You can just select the default.
