Nia is the best Welsh catgirl ever, but I think I preferred Morag and Jin (especially in Torna) as characters overall.
I think people just assume that, because Xenoblade 2 has a boatload of fan-service, the story and characters must be trash. That's usually a good rule of thumb but there are plenty of exceptions.
This is by no means an extremely unpopular opinion but i think it needs to be said, and sometimes it really feels like it. The Nintendo fanbase has become so abhorrant I can't associate myself with them anymore on topics that are very important to the community.
It's become so bad that cyberbullying the presidents of Nintendo is considered a heroic action and a self-righteous thing to do. We need to get off of our high horse if we actually want to do something about smash and such.
Misinformation on day by day decisions from Nintendo has become so rampant that we have begun harassing random people about things completely out of their control.
Misleading marketing on AoC? Let's harass Aonuma, who last time I checked was not the head of marketing for Nintendo, because hes the closest person we can lay blame on.
Modern Paper Mario sucks and is weirdly limited from creative freedoms? Let's blame Miyamoto who gave some goddamn advice years ago after Tanabe literally stated it was his decision to implement the limitations.
Nintendo shut down a melee competition? Let's take out anger out on the indie presentation cause why not?
These issues are all very important and I would love to advocate against these idiotic business decisions, but the moral compass on the greater Nintendo fanbase has become so distraught that it sickens me at this point to be associated with them.
I think Sly Cooper games are much better 3D platformer games than Super Mario Odyssey after i played Sly Cooper Collection PS3 and Sly Cooper Thieves in Time PS3.
Damsel in distress plot from Mario games started bored me.
I wish Nintendo make a completely different way of 3D platformer games.
Not just only jumping around pounding the enemies, collecting coins, free roaming around in cartoonish world but it needs deep storyline plot to make it looks fresh and interesting.
It's important to criticize anything when it comes to something like this. It's fine if you have a negative outlook on something, we need multiple perspectives on any given topic, but you need to know when it's not the damn time, same with fanboying. Deciding to flood Doug Bowser's twitter when he posted a picture of the ocean with #freemelee and "can we have more news?" Is not the appropriate medium to express frustration about their business practices. Respect your boundaries, and fix your moral compass, then we'll talk like civilized beings.
Not to mention whenever this is brought up anywhere you'll be accused of being a corporate bootlicker, then you'll just be talking to a brick wall.
@Anti-Matter in terms of gameplay, gonna have to disagree. In terms of story, I definitely agree. Mario is not the right game to go to if you want a story, with the slight exception of Galaxy, depending on who you ask. It's more world design and if I can just fart around in the levels for as long as possible when I judge a 3D mario game. Which is probably why Odyssey and 64 are my favorite of them all.
@NGNYS This is pretty much true for all gaming fanbases. It's not like you instantly get shafted for critquing companies like Sony or Microsoft any less compared to Nintendo. Did you see how many people were up in arms calling The Game Awards rigged because of Last of Us 2 taking the majority of the big name awards? Hell I even remember when games like FFXIII and GTA IV got confirmed for Xbox 360 after being PlayStation only franchises for years and PS owners were LIVID that two of the biggest third party exclusives they had that weren't MGS4 were going multiplatform, chastising Sony for apparently betraying them because they were the easiest target to put the blame on.
The only reason Nintendo hate was so quiet during the Wii U era was because it was already unanimously accepted that the Wii U was a failure and almost everyone who wasn't die hard into Nintendo wrote it off as a non-entity while waiting for the PS4 and Xbox One. Now that the Switch is actually a successful console that got a lot of people back into Nintendo home consoles after a long time, myself included, obviously these people are more inclined to be vocal because they'll get more attention when talking negatively about Nintendo due to how many people use their consoles now.

@GilbertXI
I still consider 3D Mario games was good games but currently i prefer 3D platformer games with deep storyline and character development.
Like i felt bad to see Bentley from Sly 2 got crushed by Clockla head after removing the hate chip, caused permanent damage to his legs and that was the reason he rode modded wheel chair from Sly 3 and Sly Cooper Thieves in Time. I also felt bad to Sly to realize he lost his parents, Le Paradox tried to annihilate Sly ancestors from history, Bentley's brokenhearted after realized Penelope (his ex-girlfriend) betrayed him by joined in Le Paradox and became Black Knight.
Those are pretty solid storyline and character development.
@GilbertXI There's an inherent problem with your idea, in that higher ups at Nintendo have no idea these people exist and have never actually been negatively affected by this stuff.
I mean I agree with your general point, but you don't need to defend people from the nothing they've actually experienced. And unfortunately, "things haven't gotten so bad that creatives are actually being harassed" does in fact put Nintendo fans above...a lot of things. The bar is that low.
@NGNYS “ You gets flayed and slaughtered in matters of seconds if you now criticize Sony, but gets treated like hero when you criticize Nintendo, or preferably mocking the staffs of Nintendo...This is really insane. I has decided to stopping reading the comments for the mostly, since it's like 90% about how bad Nintendo are, no matter what they yet do“
This is some percussion complex nonsense right there. Nintendo get away with too many stupid decisions. People treat Sony and Microsoft way harsher than they treat Nintendo actually.
Nintendo got away with subpar online, overpriced wii u ports and other nonsense. If Sony and Microsoft did half of the stuff Nintendo do then people would’ve been up in arms.
@kkslider5552000 I highly doubt none of them look at their own social media and not read the news about their own company. If I had all of that seething hate directed towards me I'd definitely be more than a little stressed. Cyberbullying is still cyberbullying, regardless of if it's noticed or not, or that they could do worse.
@GilbertXI Considering how often Nintendo gets away with stupid business decisions I doubt they're actually that affected by what people on the internet say about them
A social media manager's job is to just tweet for promotion's sake and spread the word on a game without being biased or subjective as possible and pushing a company's image no matter how many people take offense to it. I doubt they scour the endless amount of tweets directed towards them
It's why Twitter movements like BreakFreePersona just turn out to be fruitless and really dumb when it just devolves into tagging Atlus in all your posts

@TheFrenchiestFry that was sort of my point, guess I didn't explain it too well.
There are much better ways to criticize Nintendo than spamming nonsense on Twitter and bickering in the Comment sections of a random youtube video by them. My main point was the promotion of these as some sort of righteous thing to do which is frankly abhorrant. I do think the current Sony fanbase is much worse, but the pure unbridled rage the Nintendo fanbase has over completely pointless topics and political level misinformation is unparalleled.
Nintendo got away with subpar online, overpriced wii u ports and other nonsense.
1. I hear about these issues on a fairly regular basis, despite not at all looking for it.
2. If only those were even notable issues at this point, even in gaming.
I think video games as a whole is 50% good enjoyable fun, 50% dumpster fire soapbox (with a 1% margin of error depending on the day).
I miss when I was a kid and nobody cared about this stuff with games. I was a loner because I liked video games. These days sometimes I can't get away from "gamers" fast enough. It used to be you'd get mad because "THIS GAME CHEATS AND I KNOW IT", now it's Brie Larson.
Edit: I think this post makes me a "boomer". I dont mind, I'll fly that boomer banner high 😉
@Guest88 Sony is pretty much getting away with subpar online quality on p2p servers just like nintendo and defective hard drive on their new system (difference is there won't be class action because people are too scared of Sony). They are the real danger of the industry who can get away with everything. People treat Microsoft and Nintendo way harsher than Sony and it isn't even close.
