@Heavyarms55 I felt like that for ages mate but when my little boy came into the picture its a completely different story. When we found out the Mrs was pregnant my reaction was 'but I can't be a Dad, I still wear Mario socks!' Even though having kids does stop you having as much time for your hobbies its all so worth it. I wont share the photo just for digital privacy but I got an amazing one of him just after he was born cuddled up to my yoshi plush.
There's always time to change how you feel but on the other hand if you don't, that's cool too!
Thankyou for your kind words.

I like that I can play Animal Crossing with my kids now, too. But I still laugh at remembering that I got the original on the Gamecube when I was in college. All of my roommates and friends laughed at me when I brought it back to the dorm, but within a week every time I came back to my room after a class or something, someone was in there playing it. Even college guys got addicted to it.
I actually prefer Half-Genie Hero. It was a fun platformer. Pirate's Curse is a good game, but as a Metroidvania I never really got pulled into it. I think it had too many annoying platforming problems with enemy respawn to keep me wanting to traverse and explore enough. Metroid proper never had that problem. Platforming and combat were engaging to replay after respawn. Pirate's Curse has too many "oh good I made it to the top of that annoying platforming/bullet hell section........oh geeze now I have to do it again....and again....screw it, I'm loading Yoshi."
I absolutely loved Half-Genie Hero and 100%ed it. I've been unable to get into the original or Pirate's Curse, and I've not played Risky's Revenge.
Something about that game just gelled with me more than the others - maybe it's because it's more like level-based platformers? I was really surprised to learn after playing that it's quite a divisive title in the series.
I love the life sim genre but not Animal Crossing. I usually game at night before I go to bed, which is of course when most shops are closed. It's like a gacha game that's only playable during the day and punishes you for taking a break from it. Nah.
@JoeM103 If somehow I got impossibly lucky enough to fall in love with a woman who would return that affection, I probably would be open to starting a family. But for one, I fully believe I will never be lucky enough to have that, and for another I'm not seeking it either.
All I want out of life is a comfortable enough job that can pay the bills with enough left over for my hobbies and although gaming and anime isn't super cheap - it's far cheaper than many other hobbies some people have. Like people who buy season tickets for sports teams, do boating or deal with sports cars or classic cars or motorcycles for example. My uncle spent more money on one sail boat than I've spent in my life... I think period. Maybe not quite if I count university. But only just.

@Link-Hero It's refreshing to hear someone else share my opinion on that topic. So many people act like starting a family is the whole point of life. 7+ billion people on Earth. Humanity is doing fine.

Unpopular opinion, I am okay with full price ports of last gen games on Switch. Like, I do understand why people think the games should be cheaper, I hear what they say. It just doesn't really bother me - especially when the ports come with all the previous DLC content included.
@Anti-Matter Is that really an unpopular opinion? Minecraft is certainly more well known and popular but I don't think I've ever heard people arguing that it's better than than those games. But know you really like those titles so you're probably around people talking about them a lot more than I am.
@TheLightSpirit lol yeah but Sonic 06 is an extremely low bar to beat. - Not disagreeing with you though, I do think Sonic Boom on Wii U is better than 06. But my point is that that really isn't saying much.

Even Japanese gamers nowadays favor Minecraft than both Dragon Quest Builders 2 and Portal Knights.
I don't understand the logic of favoring all cubic characters on Minecraft compared with mixture of cube blocks and actual objects / peoples on both Dragon Quest Builders 2 and Portal Knights.
I knew both of those games have their fans but it seems still not so many peoples recognize Dragon Quest Builders 2 and Portal Knights, even on here. It feels like the better games become underdog titles.
When talking about Cubic world sandbox game, peoples mostly think about Minecraft, not DQB2, not Portal Knights.
@Anti-Matter Personally I wouldn't consider either better than the other. The games are quite different. Minecraft is open world and open ended with no story to follow, but DQ Builders has a more traditional structure and story. They have similarities sure but I think the differences are too much to treat them as the same kind of game.

Minecraft is too open ended for me personally, but I view it as an essential game nonetheless. It’s like a virtual LEGO set that you can build and show off to your friends. It’s crude boxey graphics are instantly recognizable, expressive and ensure it can played on everything from your high end PC, to your kitchen toaster. It also makes modding a cinch because asset creation is so simple.
It might be the most ingenious video game idea since Tetris.
As a big fan of their consoles and arcade classics it pains me to say this, but Sega really blows. They are an uninnovative company that latches onto certain franchises and milks them until they start sucking and nobody wants to buy them anymore.
I’ve played some Yakuza games this year, which are a lot of fun, but it’s only a matter of time till that one goes to the dogs too.
If someone from M2 is reading this though, please more Sega Ages stuff. I’ll take that.
@NotTelevision I'm in the same boat there mate. There was a time when I sided with SEGA more than Nintendo. (Please hold fire with your pitchforks and torches people. I was young and impressionable to a blue hedgehog haha).
I loved my Dreamcast and GameGear not to mention the older systems that I used to play with my Dad.
What on earth happened to such an innovative and creative company. For years now I have picked up the latest instalment of Sonic knowing that I'm going to regret it but still do just for that tiny glimmer of hope that they may have found the magic again.

Yeah Yakuza is a really good series, I'm interested to see how good the new one is. As it looks like it's an RPG with a party system. It feels like Sega have down sized in recent years. If feels like they don't release anywhere near as many games as they used to.
@JoeM103 Yeah the Dreamcast was great. In an alternate reality where the DC sold as much as it really should have, Sega still might be making a lot great games. But two consoles with mediocre sales, in addition to the decline of arcade coin-op revenue must’ve changed the company’s philosophy and had them alter their standards on quality. I wouldn’t be surprised if the developers ask for more money and time but then are told to “wrap it up, and get it done.”
@Wargoose Like a Dragon does look like a lot of fun. I’m interested in playing a Yakuza RPG. I really like the humor in these games and how they try to make a fun semi-open world, instead of opting for realism and making them drab affairs.
But yeah they definitely downsized and have fallen into financial trouble. But that’s after years of mismanagement and bland games.
I have one that may ruffle a few feathers; a fair few of Sony’s most popular 1st Party titles or those they helped fund for PS3/4 are rather dull and unimaginative; at least that’s how I feel they’ve become.
Uncharted has become cookie-cutter samey for multiple games and the stories only became more boring in the 4th game where all fantastical fiction elements were removed entirely. They had all those resources to what amounted to a family reunion road trip.
God of War was about one maniacal mad SoB whose sole purpose in life seemed to be to ensure he held the world record for body counts for doing just about anything, like he needed to rip someone’s jaw off to use as a bottle opener. Jaw dropping, but entertaining. God of 4War sees the guy become the equivalent of a scout master with some somewhat enhanced hunting skills. I can only hope this is all part of a master plan to have him snap in a future title and allow you to commence a session of entrail redecoration.
Can’t comment too much on Horizon Zero Dawn as I’ve only played a few hours but it did fail to draw me in. I mean this one had the most promise cos robot dinosaurs. But it just didn’t work out for me. Maybe it was the stealth; I love exploring virtual safaris but preferable one where I don’t have to slide through tall grass when just passing through. Or maybe being a safari of unreleased Zoid prototypes rather than organic animals made it all a bit samey. Some variety in robotic colours would have been nice. Maybe this is explained later in the story. I really should pick it up again in the near future and give it a shot again. Maybe with some upgrades I can drop the stealth and start body slamming robot ponies in due time.
The Last Of Us....oh boy. I’ll forever hold Naughty Dog in contempt for not allowing me to rearrange my escort quest NPC’s face into something resembling the aftermath of a calzone stuffed with a fire cracker. Having to spend all those hours with depressed Al Borlyn and the world’s most annoying piece of shark bait for the equivalent pay off of a plate of beans on toast without the beans. A game to this day I fail to understand the appeal unless we have gotten to a point where imagination and wonder is considered beneath people’s ideas of entertainment and they just want to feel for people being dragged through the mud and feel like crap.
I’m sure there are several games people will list off to counter this. Ratchet & Clank and Shadow of the Colossus springs to mind but those originated on the PS2, back in an era where game designers still had to inject their games with colour and imagination as the non-HD graphics prevented them from reaching optimum mid and gravel filter optimisation. Sure there must be some but doesn’t feel like they are talked about half as much.
This all seems like a rant, probably been on this too long. Well I already put off emptying the dishwasher long enough and I’m sure as heck not deleting this now. Maybe I need to find a game where I play as an exploding nerf gun wielding red panda out to save his island home from an invading race of troll dolls or something. And his friends are secretly part of a super sentries team. And the whole game is a metaphor on the impact of plastic waste in today’s oceans. And it makes fun of how everyone expects games to have themes and meaning. And I need to remember where this baking tray goes.
