I think my enjoyment of the often hated N64 port of Megaman Legends sums up my feelings on that whole generation in retrospect.

No matter what problems it has, it's still more interesting and fun to me than vastly better, more polished 3d games today. And no one is making a modern equivalent of it to be "better" anyway. So unless a miracle happens and Red Ash is actually great (that's still happening I think), I will enjoy MM64 because everyone is too stupid to give me an alternative (though admittedly, I finally can get old PS1 games on the PS3 I got, so that will help for obvious reasons )

The only reason people ever sell their CD, DVD, Vinyl, BluRay collection is when they're selling the lot. Clearing room or maybe it's an estate selling off their stuff. If you go to a second hand shop and look at their DVDs firstly it'll be DVDs and not BluRay but you're also unlikely to find much that's less than about ten years old. You're also unlikely to find any used stuff at a place that sells physical copies of music and movies. Compare that to games, walk into your local GameStop equivalent and the first thing you'll see is a bin full of games from last season.

I think the main difference is that videogaming is a highly expensive hobby - music and film aren't, unless you're a true collector. For some people, buying and re-selling videogames ASAP is the only realistic and sustainable way to play new stuff. I buy approximately 150 albums a year, mostly on CD because they are so cheap (especially nowadays that all the music snobs want vinyl - which is more expensive, harder to get, harder to handle and harder to store). If I had to sell my albums individually, I would probably get one or two bucks each - hardly worth the hassle unless I sell them in bulk. Basically, re-selling a record would get me less than a fifth of the price I paid for the thing. Same with DVDs or books.
But I could buy Breath of the Wild for €60, play it for one month and re-sell it privately for a good price, say €35 or even €40. This is a considerable amount of money if I plan on buying the next big game coming out. There are other factors at play, of course - most notably the fact that people consume games differently (I do agree on that) but if records costed €60 and you could re-sell them for half of that price, it would be the same merry-go-round that is happening in the videogame world now.

it's not impossible considering Banjo Kazooie surpassed 64 in 1998.

@BiasedSonyFan
No my complaint is about the economics of the grey market. If someone buys a game for $80AU and sell it to a store for $20AU who then sells it on to someone else for $50AU. On average the two users have paid ~$55AU for that game of which only ~$40AU paid for the actual game. If however the market was more like the PC market where there is no reselling? The first guy would have likely paid $70AU and the second guy would have waited for a sale when the price dropped to $30AU. $50AU paid on average, $50AU going directly to the cost of the game.

My complaint with the grey market isn't so much about private sales. If someone wants to share a game with their friends or recover the costs of their purchase by selling it for less than they paid? That's a positive for the end user. But when there's a middle-man making a profit from the used market? Of course it's legal. But they are making a profit at the expense of both the end user and the game makers.

@spizzamarozzi
I think the main difference between movies, music and games is that there are no cheap alternatives to buying games. If I want to listen to a popular album for cheap I'm not going to bother hunting down a used copy. I'll stream it. Streaming is effectively free, buying used isn't.

But for games? If I want to play Zelda BotW I need a copy of Zelda BotW. The cheaper alternative to buying new is via the used market. And if you walk into your local EBGames or whatever your regional equivalent is that's what you'll be shown first. Used games.

-Super Mario 3D World is actually a really fun game - much better then 3D Land

  • Garchomp would fit much better in Smash than Lucario
  • Mario Kart > Smash
  • Splatoon's Single player is one of the best single players for any online based shooter
  • Wii remotes feel better without there case
  • Mario Kart Wii > Mario Kart 7
  • Super Mario World is a VAST improvement on SMB3
  • ( technically Playstation but) Riku in KH1 is one of the easiest bosses in the game
  • Lego games have gotten much worse
  • Shovel Knight is better than Megaman X
  • Mainseries Pokémon games should come out a little less often, 4 years is about right
  • I would totally buy a new 2DS XL ... Last year
  • Ratchet and Clank > Jak and Daxter
  • Earthbound is the best RPG ever
  • Gen 6 Pokémon are probably the least rememberable of the series

LOL, you gotta invest in a time machine. Nintendo surpassed those games about 10 years ago. And again 3 years later.
And I'm just gonna say this about M&L; as long as I'm able to go through battle without taking damage, I'm good.
Actually going through battle without taking damage? Well, that's always the challenge. Oh, and M&L may be my favorite RPG series.

Now, with my own unpopular opinion. Pokemon Sun... is terribly underwhelming. Pokemon X/Y is faaaar better.
The first half of Sun was only decent. The game only started to spiral downfield at that point: a very lame and forgettable story, incredibly cheesy and underdeveloped characters (not to mention their weird animations), and what felt like the most disjoined region in the series of Pokemon. The music was good, I'll give it that... but everything else? Meh. I'm not sure why a lot of people called the game revolutionary (get rid of gym leaders, OHMAH HOW INNOVATIVE!!!) when it was pretty much a step in the wrong direction more than anything else.
At the end of the day it just feels like Pokemon hasn't transitioned well into 3D like other series; X was somewhat clunky, unoptimized, (frame rate drops, anyone?) and lacked post-game content... and Sun/Moon was, well... see above. I haven't played ORAS, but I'm not even expecting any different from that game. I'd prefer the next Pokemon game go back to sprites but be placed in a 3D world; exactly like Awakening and Fates did it. Heck, that was the case from Gen 4 onwards until X/Y. Even a 3D Pokemon MMO doesn't sound promising at this point...

@DarthNocturnal Haha, yeah. I meant Galaxy/2. I apologize if I was a bit condescending with the whole time machine thing. It was merely a joke.
But Galaxy/2 a step back? I mean.. I'm not even sure what to say to that. I (and many others, I presume) think Galaxy/2 are perfect pieces of gaming software. I'm guessing the "step back" is due to the lack of a large overworld in those games? Well, I think the diversity of stages and galaxies, ideas, and sheer presentation more than makes up for it. It's really a brilliant game. That's not to say Sunshine and 64 were bad, though. But Galaxy/2.... man, I'm not even sure Odyssey can come close to those two. We'll see.
Made some minor edits...

Peek-a-boo

@DarthNocturnal While I cannot side with you in regards to not being overly fond of the two Galaxy games, seeing as Super Mario Galaxy 2 sits just behind Final Fantasy VII as my favourite game of all time, I am pleased to see somebody else who likes Superstar Saga for being the game with the most meat on its bones.

Dream Team was an absolute slog to get through, and those dreamland scenarios were mostly joyless. I also felt that the game took forever to get going and when it finally did, I couldn't wait for it all to be over and done with! There was so much backtracking, so much padding and so many battles with annoying 'gimmicks' too.

I thoroughly enjoyed Bowser's Inside Story, and Partners in Time had a handful of clever, funny and joyful moments that made it worth playing through however, Dream Team felt like a completely different team came along and tried their best to impersonate previous games.

TL;DR - Superstar Saga continues to be the best game in the Mario & Luigi series for all the reasons you and I have mentioned. I'm still waiting for another pair of villians that are as good as Cackletta and Fawful!

nintendo should stop rehashing old consoles (the 3ds, 2ds and now the fricking new 2ds xl?!)

Unpopular opinions

Gamecube is an overrated system with not that many great games for it. I think the Snes and even the Wii are infinitely better

The Gamecube controller is ok at best ( I really don't understand the claims that the GC Controller is the best of all time)

Sun and moon is not the 10/10 most people say it is. It's fun but I think island trials don't really make up for removing gyms

Breath of the Wild is not a 10/10 and has an incredibly disappointing plot that feels like it's going somewhere in the beginning only to end with a whimper. Most of the 4 champions are 1-dimesnional and cliched, albeit enjoyable cliches. In addition, BotW has some major flaws with some of its design like the dungeons and bosses being far too easy as well as the durability system being more of a hindrance than a benefit. Armor and food completely break the game's balance and fights get very repetitive.

Kirby has been far better than Mario for YEARS, at least in regards to 2d entries. There is so much creativity present in Kirby titles that hasn't been in any of the New Super Games for YEARS.

So zetta slow!

@TheLZdragon Truth be told I've never finished Majora's Mask. I only ever played it as a kid at a friend's house and the 3 day time limit stressed me out too much. I definitely want to play through MM 3D to form a more complete opinion now that I'm older.

I love Ubisoft, commend them for always backing Nintendo when no one else does, appreciate the long list of AAA titles brought to Wii U despite its disastrous state of affairs which were evident as early as January 2013, and truly believe they are the closest thing to a 3rd party Nintendo we will ever see. They care about their games- their CEO Yves Guillemot cares about video games (he helped found the company when it was just starting out- he's not some corporate hack, he's more like Iwata was with Nintendo). That's extremely rare for a mega publisher nowadays.

Oh I have one. Assuming I haven't said it before. But linearity is sooooo much more enjoyable for me, most of the time, than open world. Sometimes, I don't care about getting lost in some world. I love being pushed down a path packed with content. Which is why I find the Galaxy games to be the closest to the pure essence of fun. All gameplay, no fluff.
Also why I much prefer Skyward Sword(though it did suffer from padding) to BoTW

@DarthNocturnal I guess the arguments you gave for Galaxy/2's "step backs" are fair, although I'm not so sure I'm 100% with them. Sure, Mario couldn't punch (he could kick, though... ) or perform the fancy tricks he could in Sunshine, but I felt that his spin attack (and even the star bit shooting thing) was more than enough for what Galaxy/2 was going for. And about the hubs.... well, I guess the Comet Observatory is stripped down compared to the hubs in the previous games. But hey, it had the library. That was a stroke of genius and is actually a part of one of the reasons why I love Galaxy (Galaxy 2 didn't have it, sadly...).
And yep, the levels in Galaxy were more of "Point A to Point B" rather than open world. But what Galaxy loses in free roaming, it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than makes up for it in the diversity of levels. I'm not even sure where to begin, but you should know what I'm talking about. I still don't get the general assumption that linearity in games means that those games won't match up to ones that allow players to explore... at the very least, I know I don't operate under that assumption. Maybe that's why I also think 3D World is a brilliant masterpiece (hey look, another unpopular opinion ).
So I guess that's that. I don't know, I think I'm just standing up for my best games of all time... I may have to lay off for a bit, lol. Or I may just comment on other unpopular opinions. Oh, and I'd also take a Sunshine HD, as long as the physics are fixed. That game was brilliant, but those Jupiter physics....

@Oat The GameCube controller is a personal favorite of mine, although the GamePad almost overtook it (no analog triggers, sadly... but something tells me the Switch Pro controller may do the trick. And yes, I know the Pro Controller doesn't have the analog triggers). I think a lot of people, including myself, think that controller is the epitome of the comfortable gateway between reality and the game's world. My only problem with it is that I still haven't "memorized" the placement of the X and Y buttons. Especially when I'm playing Paper Mario TTYD, I always have to look down at the controller to confirm which button is which. Oh well...
