@FX102A I don't know how unpopular that opinion is, but I also think Metroid ZM is slightly better than Super Metroid. And I played both recently for the first time, so no rose-tainted glasses from me.

But yeah, Metroid Prime (Wii) is the better Metroid.

Check out my super awesome Super Mario Maker levels.

I don't care if fan-games exist or not. I don't care if micro transactions are placed in a game. Lastly, I don't care if Nintendo hates Youtube. I'm just so apathetic

Same! Unleashed is my favorite game! I found both the day and night levels to be fun. Plus, the soundtrack is amazing!

Colors and Generations are very fun games as well. I also really enjoyed Sonic and the Black Knight. It's one of my favorite Sonic games, actually.

@Blue_Blur Yeah, Sonic Unleashed is my favorite Sonic game as well, and I really enjoy Sonic Colors and Generations as well. (In fact, all three games are my Top 3 favorite Sonic games) but, there was something about Unleashed's environments and story that made me love the most out of the three, despite Colors and Generations improving on it in some aspects.

Never played Black Knight, but I remember liking Secret Rings despite it's controls, so I always wanted to try it out.

Unleashed on Wii wasn't too bad for me... although the Hogwolf segments weren't terribly exciting. Colors was good, except for floaty jumping.

@Buizel

If you have the PC version of Generations, check out the Project Unleashed mod.

Wow, thanks for the suggestion! I'm not much of a PC gamer but it still runs great on my laptop...although I have a few framerate issues in Jungle Joyride.

I really hope Sega make use of this Hedgehog engine again...

On the topic of Sonic and unpopular opinions (I may have mentioned this already)...

Sonic 06 has a cheesy story and is an unpolished mess, but it is far from the worst Sonic game. At least it has some charm to it, and tries to retain some of the positive aspects of the Adventure games. There were plenty of spin-offs in the 90s which were underwhelming at best. I'd also argue that Shadow the Hedgehog was a far worse game for its poor story, poor controls, awful level design / integration of a mission system, and just generally poor concept (I would also argue Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric, but I have only the demo and reviews to go by on that one!)

@YoshiParty: Yeah, the world and story are a large part of why I like Unleashed so much. I also thought having to find the levels in the environments was a cool idea. My top three Sonic games would have to be Unleashed, Adventure 2, and Heroes. Black Knight is a very close forth though.

I definitely prefer Black Knight over Secret Rings, but I still enjoyed Secret Rings a lot. The controls were a little annoying at times, but I found it to be really fun overall.

Time for another Metroid opinion; how unpopular I don't know so let's find out.

I enjoyed Other M and thought it was a genuinely good game. Not as good as its predecessors (bar perhaps the original Metroid that has clearly aged badly) but still good. It may have been a bit better if Team Ninja had been allowed to use the Nunchuk as originally hoped plus there's no denying the story and characterisation was like the product of a medical course of Moviprep but in terms of gameplay it was overall pretty decent. Currently thinking it warrants another playthrough.

Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but the first Ape Escape alone beats out every single 3D Mario game made so far.

When a game is made more accessible, that's not necessarily a bad thing. It can be bad if it takes depth from the game, but it doesn't have to be bad.

@MrMario02 I'd argue that accessibility on its own is a good thing, and that all games should aim to be accessible. As you say, the issue is when it means sacrificing the depth of the game. I also get the feeling that a lot of gamers treat their games like an exclusive club, and don't want newcomers...

Skyrim might be the best example that comes to mind. It was my first ES, but from what I've read and played about prior games... it's changes don't seem to be as bad as others make it out to be.

Honestly, ES' biggest asset is its feeling of immersion and freedom (while everything else is just a glorified tech demo for what's ultimately become a mod engine after the first game or two). There's a lot of problems, many of which have been present since as far back as Daggerfall. So they can dumb down their already clunky combat, or force some weird level-scaling where you never seem to outrank your enemies, or throw me in the middle of nowhere with barely any explanation as to where to go or what to do, but in the end, I still find a lot of it to be worth putting up with, so long as I'm sucked into its well-crafted fantasy world (also neat how they've kept it all to the same world, building upon the lore with each game).

@Buizel @DarthNocturnal I also kind of see it when easy modes are discussed. People always ask for them to be removed because... allowing others to play is bad? It's not like inclusion of easy modes is somehow ruining your experience by their existence. I mean just look at Jennifer Hepler!

When I think of games being more accessible, I always think of how games change between games. But, one of these is a one off IP, one is a spinoff and only one is a sequel and you mentioned the original anyway.

Problem I'm finding with TES series is that the RPG side is slowly dying. This comic sums it up:
Untitled
Morrowind was hugely different, the skills you chose were important, they affected what you could do, the speed at which they advanced, who you could join, whether you could be promoted. By the end of Bloodmoon, I was lucky if I had more than 4 skills maxed out. Whereas Skyrim you're just end up a jack of all trades. A melee character can become head of the mage's guild with very little ability as a mage.

Skyrim still has more RPG mechanics than most full RPGs, though.

1. Which one is the sequel? EDIT: Jet Set Radio and Jet Grind Radio are the same game. Jet Set Radio is the UK name and Jet Grind Radio is the US name.
2. I've seen seen accessibility bashing occur around every game from Bayonetta 1 to New Super Mario Bros. Wii

@MrMario02 Okay, first off: How is Metal Gear Rising more accessible? It's a gruelingly hard action game, to the point where even fans of Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden needed a guide/tips before they could proceed, made worse by the fact that the game did not actually explain itself very well. It seems to be the very antithesis of your argument here. Vanquished is the only one that actually seems to apply here, in that Easy mode is exactly what the name implies: It's the game with training wheels on. You can still enjoy it, but once you got it down and finally take them off, you're in for one hellavu ride.

@CanisWolfred
1. MGR has an in-depth easy mode and an overall structure that facilitates building up weaker players (you can button mash your way through if you want, but by learning and mastering the mechanics, you will be rewarded for doing so). I will say that it's tutorials aren't as good as Vanquish.
2. Metal Gear Rising is harder than most of it's contemporaries? I beat it on normal, and I've never played a hack n' slash game before MGR.
3. What about Jet Set Radio? Compared to games like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater or Skate, it's mechanics are decidedly simple. The most complex mechanic is the graffiti system, which is fairly self explanatory.
