@CreamyDream That's what I thought lol

I just really love adventure games, I found the shooting parts inconvenient, but I just don't like shooter games to begin with. But because I like the characters of Starfox, I'm glad they went ahead and made a completely different game.

No game in particular, I just don't like shooters and seeing through your characters eye view. I like to actually see the character and the first person perspective just irks me. Just like how people don't like say, racing games or RPGs. it just isn't my thing.

I just don't think they need it, they can be powerful already. I'm not into competitive battling either, I just care about leveling up my pokemon to a decent amount and winning the game, and of course, leveling up my pokedex^^ It's also difficult to trade when everyone only wants a shiny or a pokemon with good EV/IVs or it's seen as basically inferior.

I only played the original. It just didn't appeal to me. The RPG style and the whole paper design. I like my Mario adventure/platform games.

@kkslider5552000 Agreed on Spiderman (though I don't think I've ever actually played one of the Spiderman games, I must admit). It's easy to make Spiderman action look appealing, but to tie it into a game that's worthy of time/money... I'm not sure it's been done very successfully in the past.

It was twice on the PS2. They just haven't quite nailed it since...

After seeing Breadth of the Wild, I'm now paranoid of whether games will change into open worlds rather than them being linear inorder to justify the cost of the game.

Sure, some linear games can be just as long as open ended games but there's more to do in open worlds than linear games and if Breadth of the Wild becomes successful, Nintendo will now make Zelda games open ended inorder to not only make more Zelda games easily but also because it brings less of complaints.

And another unpopular opinion. If this game does well, Zelda won't be anymore unique than what the linear games offered.

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

After watching videos and reading write ups about BOTW, im still finding it hard to be hyped. Peopel are hyping it for the fact that its open world.. Which is not a new thing, gameplay mechanics shown was pretty standard, technical visuals are really not that great. It seems people are just hyped for the promise that it will be great and not abput what is actually shown. Eh ill just wait for the reviews next year...

It's hard for me to compare Smash Bros. to any other video game series.

If I were to make a top 5, 10, 25 or whatever list of my favorite games of all time, it never occurs to me to include a Smash game, even though they are always amongst my most played games on any given system (probably my absolute most played game on N64, GCN, & Wii).

It's like Smash is it's own seperate thing, and I can't compare it to other games. Not even in the sense that it's "better" than everything else, more like it exists within a completely seperate reality than everything else, so it shouldn't be included.

It's just a weird quirk of mine.

The Gamecube was very underrated.

People praise the GameCube all the time. Maybe it was a bit overlooked when it came out, but not anymore.

I was gonna say "your favorites are based on what you like, it doesn't matter if the comparison is 'fair'"...but then I remembered I do the same with Paper Mario and Pokemon. They're games that I love too much, to the point where I feel like it isn't right to compare them to other games, even in similar genres. The key difference here, though, is that I do it to protect PM and Pokemon - I know damn-well they wouldn't hold up under scrutiny. They're games I love in spite of their faults. It probably isn't fair that I give them so much adoration while there are games with stronger stories, larger worlds with less linearity and far more to do with them, and certainly better mechanics, especially in the case of Paper Mario. There are probably games with wittier humor and more endearing characters, too...but damnit, I love these games. Nobody ever said your favorites had to be perfect. That just ain't what love is about.

So there's my unpopular opinion - the game that you think is the best, and the game that you like the most don't have to be one and the same.

@Danksparce I like to see how games being open world can expand the mechanics further if you so think that I'm wrong in that.

Part of the charm that I love in Phantom Hourglass and Link's awakening was their worlds being linear which meant it was able to tell a story. I don't know how stories work in many open world games out there unless it can end up like a Link Between Worlds.

Yeah, you give me the possibilities of how Nintendo can expand the formula further without it being back to linearity and I will stop the lousy open world discussion and be optimistic in this new installment because I can't think of how Nintendo can expand Zelda any further unlike you guys.

@Socar Hmm? I was just making fun of your goof, you called the game breadth of the Wild.

I do disagree though, open world games are nothing new for the Zelda series, and it's hard to think that they wouldn't return to a more linear narrative in the future, especially for the portable entries.

@Danksparce How can you make a game back into linearity from open world? Wouldn't that remove the selling point of a franchise for something like say Metroid if Fusion took away the things that made Super Metroid great?

First of all, you don't even know if the new Zelda game is going to be great (I certainly think it will be, but it's not out yet so who knows). Secondly I don't see how you can make the comparison between Super Metroid, and Metroid fusion, they're practically the same game- unlike say Skyward Sword and BotW. It's not impossible to think that the console versions may continue to be open world, but the handheld games will be more linear in nature.

If Nintendo is good at one thing it's spicing things up, look at Mario and all the different play styles he's gone through, Zelda will surely follow suit.

@Danksparce Um....Fusion is more straightforward than Super Metroid if I remember correctly. Yes there are certain things in the later that are linear but the huge chunk of it is open ended.

Mario is a character that is simple to keep experimenting with because of the way the series is built. For Zelda, that's trickier because well.....Zelda after the first game was known for OoT and so on. This new one seems to be the one people will want on Zelda from now on.

And wasn't a Link Between Worlds also open ended?

Although I'm fine with Nintendo not allowing a female player character in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, let's be real, Nintendo's excuse was pathetic at best. "What would link do?" REALLY!?!?!?!?!? He could do plenty of things:
1. Be the prince of Hyrule
2. Be one of the Seven Sages
3. Be a mentor character, similar to Sheik
4. Be Zelda's childhood friend
5. Be Ganon's right hand man
EDIT: Also, he could be the one who needs rescuing

I agree, the excuse is pretty dumb.
But that begs the question. What would Link do? Because Link has to be the hero of courage, that means he needs to prove himself and develop in the story from being nothing. But if Link isn't the main character, then what's the point of Link being there. He'd be the annoying kid with nothing, and... dialog.

@KO-Cub Nobody ever said that he had to get the Triforce of Courage. He just has to be reincarnated alongside Zelda and Ganon over and over for eternity.

Here's one. The Wii U is a decent console, Pokemon X and Y are meh at best and the NX will be a success.

What I'm optimistic? Sue me. The medication forces it out of me these days.

In retrospect, Wind Waker SD was the weakest 3D Zelda. Even if you can tolerate how absurdly long you ultimately spend doing nothing but going in a direction on the ocean, it has the weakest dungeons and has the most amount of things that are less enjoyable on repeat playthroughs. HD version's better of course...

Which honestly says a lot to me. Because if Wind Waker SD is 3D Zelda at its worst, that's some high standards for the series.
