I just want Nintendo to make good games with "fun" at the forefront of every aspect, just like they have done for the past 3 decades - and still seem to want to do.
That's one fan's desire, at least.
I agree completely. As long as they can make a game fun no matter how twisted their ideas may seem like, I don't care at all. I'm glad that Nintendo is still ensuring that games are all about fun for everyone.
Is there anyone out there that DOESN'T want any given game to be fun?
Yes.
Some people want the game to be thought provoking, and stay with them long after they're done playing.
Some want an intense challenge above all else.
Or maybe they just want something safe they could relax with?
Or feel like they're in another world?
Or heck, maybe they just need a time-sink that doesn't take any effort, but still gives you that rewarding feeling?
Admittedly, "Fun" is a highly subjective term, but the type of fun I'm using here - the one that I tend to see drag itself into Nintendo's games even when they're trying to go for the other ones I just described - is a sort of 'whimsical' fun, the kind that doesn't need logic to work - where anything and everything just needs to make you smile. The kind of thing you'd only expect a child to make, and the thing only a toy maker could truly bring out - the ones who treasure those smiles most...
@CreamyDream Except you have a problem here. Say that Awakening didn't sell well because of the criticism that it has by fans. Guess what? The series comes to an end. Nintendo will never make or even consider making another FE game because well...the fans didn't support it, the new audience wouldn't think about caring for FE so why should Nintendo ever want to make more FE then?
As for F-Zero, yeah you are pretty much asking Nintendo to do something that's very expensive there. Sure, getting better graphics and all doesn't seem to be much of a problem but then there's giving more content. They stated that they can't think offering anything new to the table and you're already asking them to do this much.
And even then, say you do get what you want, will it make them profit? No. Because the others won't want it because they won't like it the way you like it. So its not like Nintendo will give you what you want because they have to think of this in the big picture.
Of all the IP that Nintendo has, F-Zero audience is so low...probably as low as Star Fox so them making a new F-Zero game will most likely not happen. Also with how Mario Kart is growing, it will most likely take over F-Zero.
Also, you claim that Nintendo will get away with us if we agree with them on everything? Well then if that's the case, what about Third Party developers then?
How is it that they get away from releasing games that have instant bugs at the start of the game? How is it that they are getting away by having microtransactions in the games that we paid to get them in the first place?
How is it that their IPs will sell majority of the times when they refuse to listen to their fanbases very frequently (I'm looking at you, SEGA for ruining Sonic again!)
And lastly, how is it that they get away with leaving servers on games very quickly (EA's Simcity for example)?
You most likely will bring up another excuse that these third parties are miles better than Nintendo for whatever reasons. But the fact is, Nintendo does things differently than those third parties out there who simply abuse their IP and their own employees (for the most part) unlike Nintendo who values both of them for whatever the reason.
@CreamyDream That 50$ has something to do with the amiibo being bundled.
Second of all, Nintendo hasn't/isn't the one who milks remakes/remasters that often or does it look like they will ever do more of them in future. So the fact that they are priced higher than Sony just proves that they are worth purchasing.
Besides, Nintendo will eventually give them a discount so what's the deal here?
As for voting wallet thing, that won't work at all unless the audience themselves feels that its not worth it which is still unlikely. Even the worst of the games still have good sales all simply because many don't know games a lot like us or simply want to get the game that they think its worth getting. Its practically impossible for SEGA to please the Sonic fanbase because its so divided to the point that SEGA doesn't know what to do with Sonic anymore.
I'm pretty sure that Federation Force was aimed to those who never played or even heard of Metroid before and they will buy it if they think its fun.
I'm pretty sure that Federation Force was aimed to those who never played or even heard of Metroid before and they will buy it if they think its fun.
I disagree, I think the main audience is for people who have heard of the Metroid series but are wanting something different and to give old fans a new experience. I don't think it is targeting those who haven't heard of Metroid.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
This gen you can't say Ninty doesn't rely on remakes when 4 of their 8 Zelda games released are remakes with the others are made up of 2 spin offs, 1 port/remake of a spin off and last one being the only new entry in the series which started out as a remake.
I didnt find anything special in the breath of the wild to be honest. Art style is good, but the technical visual is kinda lack luster. Environmetal details are lacking, the forest seems empty of detail, textures seems a bit iffy, the new mechanics show is nothing new to open world games.
Si for a guy like me who doesnt have nostalgia for the franchise, the reveal and reaction of some fans seems.....wierd?
@CreamyDream im just concerned that the lack of graphical detail will affect my enjoyment of the game. In open world games i like to just wander around and creat mini stories and adventure. If they keep it as empty looking as what has been shown it may not grip me and it will be very disappointing for me.
I guess im just asking nintendo why i should buy this when(based on my initial impression) there are other more promising open world games out theres.
@CreamyDream hahaha i get you, but saying things about dungeons/shrine puzzles, narrative changes does nothing to me since this will be my first zelda game(first nintendo console actualy) so i have no context. Hahaha
I mainly game using my PC and i have a PS4 so when i saw the trailer and treehouse, the only thing i can compare it to are open world games on those other platforms. What im getting right from my friends and my son is that if the game is nit titled as Zelda it will just be brushed of as a unimpressive open world game.
Anyway hoping that it will be good, (havent bought any new wii u game since january) so basically its a battle for my money come next year and honestly Zelda is not winning.
Amusingly, I feel there was literally only one other open world game I saw at E3 that actually looked like it was worth caring about, and that was Horizon. I mean, yeah MGS5 and Witcher 3 exist but that's not the norm. Not to mention Zelda is different enough from anything else on the market that it can pretty easily still feel fresh.
I'm looking forward to it because literally every 3D Zelda (and quite a few of the 2d ones for that matter) has been among the best games of the year it came out. If that's not a reason to care, I don't know what is. That's not even just like, my opinion, that's kinda the universal opinion of this series.
@kkslider5552000 being the best game of the year is pretty subjective, for example when wind waker was released morrowind was my GOTY. what im coming from is an opinion of someone who doesn't have any history of the franchise. All i have to based my impression is its trailer and initial reveal and honestly its a bulit underwhelming.
@CreamyDream cheers, i do hope they show more today. I do find the art direction quite good, its a little bit like ghibli. Im considering pre ordering but i may just hold off until i know more
@diwdiws Well, it's usually the cream o' the crop, at least. Hell, even a lot of Wind Waker's problems are either minor, or at most are just part of the sailing theme, which...is understandable. There's a reason why sailing isn't featured in a lot of other games (and tends to be oversimplified when it is), and why it's generally considered an outdated method of travel in real life...they wouldn't have invented steam ships if sailing was fast and convenient...
Really, Nintendo always sets a high bar for the franchise. It is their flagship, along with mainline Mario games. They would be have to be insane to release a drastically sub-par Zelda game on a home console platform. Ocarina of Time alone probably payed off any development costs of the N64 and its Nintendo-developed games at least times over by now, including all the remakes and re-releases...and I'm probably being generous. So long as you like Zelda at its base, they've earned themselves enough good will and trust from their fanbase that you can easily bank on them making a great game.
Because the moment they betray that trust - like, REALLY betray it - is the moment their castle comes crashing down upon them. They basically gotta live that triforce-hero $#!+, man. And I'll be routing for Link/Aonuma-Sensei in my castle, knowing deep down in my heart that they'll succeed...
EDIT:
@kkslider5552000 Wait, Spider-Man PS4 is a thing! That's open world, right? Pretty sure Gravity Rush 2 is as well, unless it's drastically different from the first.
But yeah, my eyes kinda glazed over any time a sandbox game showed up. Even Horizon did for me, honestly. It's probably one of the top ones shown, but I still wasn't feeling it. It needed...300% more color to it. So...yeah, glad Zelda's looking nice.
Spiderman PS4 didn't show enough for me to be THAT excited about it. I like some of the previous Spiderman games but even the good Spiderman games are not great games imo. Just surprisingly good when superhero games were expected to be mediocre at absolute best. Also it's still Activision (I'm pretty sure), so be cautious
Gravity Rush wasn't shown in any real way at Sony's E3 conference so...yeah. That's specifically what I was talking about.
But I've really grown to hate AAA gaming. Not even because of the quality of the games. Just the hopeless cycle of people in suits deciding the same games are the only ones that have a chance to be successful. It make even good games in these genres feel cynical and sadder than what the developers were ever intending. Open world games look worse because of the neverending cycle of open world. It makes me sad as quite a few of my favorite games are open world.
@kkslider5552000 Actually, Activision isn't involved at all as far as I can tell. Sony-published, a Marvel and Insomniac collab...that's the only official info I could find as far as who's running the show. But you're right, the trailer was too action-y and all over the place, now that I watch it again. Doesn't give you a good sense of how it plays, so a wait 'n' see approach is probably advisable...
Also, oh yeah, freakin' forgot Gravity Rush 2 wasn't at the conference. I slept through it so I only got the news posts afterwords, but I saw people complaining about it being tucked to the side...
@kkslider5552000 Agreed on Spiderman (though I don't think I've ever actually played one of the Spiderman games, I must admit). It's easy to make Spiderman action look appealing, but to tie it into a game that's worthy of time/money... I'm not sure it's been done very successfully in the past.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Twilight Princess and Windwaker are better than Ocarina of Time.
Ocarina of Time is overrated.
I hate FPS games.
The Gamecube was very underrated.
I don't like mega evolution or EV/IV training.
I don't like Skyward Sword's art style or motion controls (MC seriously ruined the game for me, it wasn't because I wasn't good at it, it was just a bad gimmick choice).
Mario Kart Wii and 8 are the best so far.
I got bored with Paper Mario.
I choose creative fantasy over realistic "mature grown up" games with EPIC graphics.
Mobile games are nothing but cheap easy access time wasters.
Please know that I'm not trolling. These are just my real opinions
A character doesn't need to be powerful or badass to be a good character; characters can be strong and developed in their own way. An unstoppable badass whose effortlessly better than all the rest is just as bad as say a damsel in distress.
I feel like people put too much significance on how powerful a character is nowadays, that they ignore the character's themselves. This applies to video games as well.
