I don't mind games being linear....as long as it isn't repetitive. I played Skyward Sword the second time and I realized that the whole game felt repetitive with little to no differences on Hero Mode. Ocarina of Time atleast added a twist for the dungeons in Master Quest unlike SS here.
I personally love Fusion better than Super Metroid. I get it, it was meant to be open world but there's just somethings that Fusion does a bit better than the former. Like getting health and weapons easier for starters.
I think I actually prefer linearity in a game. The size of my backlog says I don't want to be spending time wandering around wondering where to go and whether a particular path is going to get me to the goal any quicker.
I agree, but for entirely different reasons. With certain semi-rare exceptions, as soon as a game is non-linear in any significant way in terms of level design, the actual quality of the level design tends to drop pretty dramatically.

I somewhat agree with this. I think if you're going to go open-world, you need to put some effort in - you can't just half-ass it. I'd rather a polished, linear experience, than something that's more open for no particular reason other than to waste your time.
That being said, I don't really find linearity or a lack of to be a problem in gaming all that often. Most games I play seem to get the balance right.
I tried looking at a legit guide for Fez and apparently, none of them were wanting to spoil the "surprises" that the game has and they refused to reveal the secrets and the usual guides.
They may be better than some typical devs out there, but they aren't that special.

I don't think a lot of people treat indie devs as gods, and I don't think your example has anything to do with that. Plenty of Indie Devs are criticized pretty hard for trying to make a profit, look at the out rage from the No Man's Sky price, and Indie Devs normally die or survive based off the very little they are able to do. The Indies that get spotlight are only the small fraction of some of the best Indie have to offer.
And some people may not want to spoil certain games. I don't think that is from treating the Devs like Gods, especially since the hate the Dev of Fez gets.

@DefHalan Then why even bother giving a guide if you're not giving out the secrets? A guide/walkthrough is suppose to reveal everything out of the game and if I can't get to know where the secrets of FEZ are on gamefaqs, then screw him/her for calling themselves a member of gamefaqs and screw them for praising the indie devs trying to be different when in reality, they are not (again, few of them ARE different)
I respect people like Daisuke Amiya because not only is he humble, he isn't that ***** up when people rant towards him.
But majority of the times I'm seeing people praising the hell out of these indie games and the devs when they simply don't offer anything unique most of the time except when few of them do it right. Super Meat Boy. That game is **** hard as hell and my hands are all cramped by simply playing it.
Then there's Xeodrifter. This game should be getting a mediocre score as it doesn't deserve an 8/10. There's barely anything fun about the game. You simply go from point a to point b without any checkpoints/health to compensate otherwise, you start over again, rehashes the same enemies over again and finally, has barebone audio with nothing standing out.
I feel as the reviewers have to give praises to these indie devs inorder to make some sort of cash on them, make them look like gods and then people will praise the hell out of them and if anyone insults them or gives them a constructive criticism, the devs themselves will put an angry impression to them.
And majority of these guys are damn stubborn to make their games better like Renegade Kid for example who uses the classic no health mechanic for any of his games that I have played so far (which is mutant mudds and Xeodrifter).
@Socar a guide is different. A guide really doesn't have anything to do with praising a Indie Developer.
I disagree with lots of your points and just because you do not enjoy a game doesn't make it a bad game. Xeodrifter is a very fun fame and I have played it on both 3DS and Wii U. Super Meat Boy is difficult but it isn't meant to be beaten in 1 go. Every level provides a challenge and with every mistake, every fail, you learn the level better for the next try. Xeodrifter and Super Meat Boy actually act as my insperation of a game I am wanting to make.

Why do people complain about "spoilers" for E3? It's a press event!

@MrMario02 because they want to see the announcement the way the developer/publisher want to announce it. I kinda get it. It is like watching a movie trailer through someone's shaky cam rather than through a player, that first impression sticks with you.

@Lzeon Spoiler Alert!
Aeris/ Aerith dies.
The birds' eggs get stolen.
The Titanic sunk.
Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father.
Bruce Wayne's parents are shot in an alley.
Kratos kills things.
Doom Guy hates demons. Flowey is actually a reincarnated Asriel Dreemurr (Son of Asgore and Toriel Dreemur) created after a series of experiments using the substance known as "determination."
Okay, that last one was actually a huge UnderTale spoiler.

I think we Nintendo fans don't know what we want Nintendo to do for us.
We ask them to get third party support but we're not happy that they do that to a great extent and we don't realize that its practically impossible for Nintendo to make their systems powerful because they will be expensive.
We request them to make a dedicated game controller with no strings attached yet when we use their new controllers, most of us are fine using it and love the heck out of it.
Then we ask them to bring back some of their dormant IPs like F-Zero when Nintendo tries to do that with MK8 and we still didn't like that.
We ask them to do remakes and when they do that, we're still not happy with that at all.
So really, we don't have an idea of what we want from Nintendo even the slightest.
@Socar You know, I'm inclined to agree with you but I don't think it is the Nintendo fans that don't know what they want. For my final ENG 102 paper I wrote a "letter" to Iwata and while I underscored the fact that Iwata was an absolute legend in the video game industry, he might have also created a split in the fanbase with his products and ideas. So no matter what Nintendo does at this point, there is always going to be criticism from one side and praise from the other side. I still think Iwata is the boldest man in the industry because of the direction he took Nintendo, though.
And for the record... just putting a kart and some courses (as well as a new speed class) in Mario Kart 8 doesn't make it F-Zero. We want an entirely new F-Zero game.
@Vee_Flames he wasn't responsible for splitting the fanbase since it was already splitted the moment the n64 showed up.
He did what he thought could help Nintendo in the long run which worked so he did his job there.
so...F-Zero? Think what can possibly happen if they do make a new one. It will end up getting the same backlash that Metroid is getting now and yet if the game turns out good, then its not Nintendo's fault now is it?
They tried to make the game fun so why is there a reason to be picky on them? Heck I'll say the same for Fates. While the story might not be that great, you can't say they didn't try because they hired a well known author to write the story.
I just want Nintendo to make good games with "fun" at the forefront of every aspect, just like they have done for the past 3 decades - and still seem to want to do.
