Vegas Stakes is one of the better retro casino games I've played, I don't know why it gets guff, maybe because it's an oddity.
Imagine, Vegas Stakes U. That would sell bad...

No, I agree. From what I've played so far I think both games are really fun, but Star Fox Guard is amazing. My favorite new release since Splatoon I think.

I just find it a shame it's been completely over shadowed by Zero.

Really it has done Zero's job of showcasing off the Gamepad as a viable controller better than Zero has and one of the few games that feels fresh on the Wii U.

So far I am enjoying guard but I am disappointed I can't control the camera with the controller gyro. I have to use analog sticks which makes the aiming feel really. really slow. maybe further unlocks will solve this issue.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@DefHalan: You can also use the stylus to turn the cameras, which is quicker, although harder to control.

@AlliMeadow: I think I would just prefer gyro controls. More accuracy and quicker movement. The slow movement is probably part of the game design, to make things a bit more hectic, but I do find it annoying. Star Fox Guard, while fun, turns into a hectic mess really quickly. Something that could be fun with tons of friends watching the screen and switching off GamePad duties, but annoying by myself.

@CreamyDream: I just played the beginning of Shantae and the Pirate's Curse as well. I enjoyed the gameplay but I can't help but wonder why every single female character has her boobs out like that.

Inb4 I get flooded with people condemning me to hell.

@CreamyDream: Bayonetta is not for kids though. And the amount of exposure is different in normal stance.

I have a qualm about it when every single female character looks like they are just there to show off their boobs while no male characters are trying to divert the attention of the player to their nether region.

@Freeon-Leon: I like the art style when it comes to the environment and most of the character design. But that does not mean I like every aspect of it.

At the end of the day though, a child would get more boob mileage from a family trip to the beach, so I still think it's still relatively harmless.

Yes, because that's what happens on a beach. You don't go swimming expecting to stay dry.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not afraid of the naked body or against it in principle. What I am against is character design when I see it as objectifying or treating sexes and genders (as well as other similar traits) inequally and unjustly. I would feel the same if all male characters had their nether-region exposed while all female characters were wearing baggy clothing.

Got Shantae and the Pirate's Curse on Humble Bundle and I just played the beginning.

I have to say, so far, I think I'm going to be taking back those mean things I said about Shantae.

(I still don't like the Game Boy Color one though)

The GBC one is very rough. Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse are much better in my opinion.

@DefHalan: I've heard the "It's E10+, so it's for kids." argument, but Journey is also E10+ and It's arguably more mature than several M rated games on the market. Really the only way to know is to guess based on the marketing.

@MrMario02: that "E10+ is for kids" argument is kinda the same thing as cartoons are for kids... looks at Anime and Adult Swim... yep all cartoons are for kids lol

Whether or not the game's fanbase is actually 10-year-old children or not, fact is that the ESRB rating means that it is being marketed and sold towards children, or that it's appropriate for children of ten years.

I'm a firm believer that cartoons and games should be enjoyed by everyone of all ages; I'm a full-grown adult and one of my favorite TV series is Gravity Falls. Fact is, though, that Gravity Falls is marketed towards children.

I am not saying you can't enjoy things targeted to a different age group, but that doesn't mean just because it is rated E10+ that it is targeted to kids 10 years old.

Exactly, I don't hear of many children enjoying the morning news, I certainly didn't.

Is Shantae for kids?

It's not targeted for kids but it's a kiddie-friendly game when it comes to the artstyle and themes. At least that's what I gathered by playing the beginning last night. It's really not too different from the games I played when growing up afterall. Bayonetta on the other hand is meant to be played by more mature players (although I do consider teenagers kids but that's beside the point). It's not meant to be kiddie-friendly.

Journey is a mature game in that its theme is adult or mature. However, it does not include anything that games with M-rating do: blood, gore, sex, gambling, horror, to name a few.

@Nego - I think it's probably because the game was produced by a predominantly male team, and because the market the game is intended for is predominantly male. And males like boobs, it's like... an established feature of male characteristics I think.

I remember going into the art stock room at school with 2 other boys as a 5 or 6 year old and finding some newspapers with topless page 3 models in. We came out of that room a few minutes later with newspaper ink all over our faces from having rubbed them all over the boobs. So I think we can acknowledge that even little kids can like boobs.

And, do you know what? It turns out boobs are ok. They're not the devil's work, just boobs. Boobs don't corrupt, they just jiggle a bit.

Complaining about boobs in a male-produced and male-targeted video game is a bit like walking into a public garden and complaining it's full of pretty flowers instead of plants that don't flower.

Pretty things sell. And they're not naughty. Just pretty.

This should not be a reason in the first place. It's not only offensive against women but against men as well, saying all men are like that when they are not. You don't see all female teams making games intended for females with male characters with huge pouches in their pants.

And, do you know what? It turns out boobs are ok. They're not the devil's work, just boobs. Boobs don't corrupt, they just jiggle a bit.

Like I said earlier - had you read all my posts so far - I don't mind nudity nor am I against it in general. I don't think boobs are bad or the devil's work. What I am against is unequal characterization of characters based on their sex, gender, skin colour, sexuality, or other trait given in birth.

@Nego: Why's it offensive against women for men to like boobs? Doesn't matter how offended they get, men still like boobs.

Why assume when I use the term 'males' or 'men' that everything I say about them has to apply to all of them?

Nego wrote:

- so all games have to have equal representation of all possible types of character? Fast-forward to blandgames.com

By all means be offended if you choose, but I don't see it getting you anywhere, and I don't see why games developers should need to worry about offending people or not. Games are made to sell and be played. Don't like, don't buy and don't play. All content is optional - if you try and force content-producers to produce only content that doesn't offend anyone then things will get dull fast.

Are the boobs in Shantae necessary? No.
Do the boobs in Shantae enhance my enjoyment of the game? Yes - I like looking at boobs.
