Calling anything Zelda underrated is a joke. But I'll have fun with this, first of all:
ZELDA GAMES THAT YOU SHOULD CARE ABOUT MORE:
-Link's Awakening
-Minish Cap
-maybe Spirit Tracks because it's so much better than Phantom Hourglass let's not pretend otherwise (it has actual quality music for more than 1/3 of the game this time!)
-Hyrule Warriors
GAMES THAT ARE MORE UNDERRATED THAN ZELDA (critically):
-Wonderful 101
-Megaman Legends
-Most good Wii games
-Dark Souls 1
-Kid Icarus: Uprising
-Any good JRPG released between Final Fantasy XII and Xenoblade
-Project X Zone
Games more underrated than Zelda (sales-wise):
-Nearly everything in the previous list
-Beyond Good and Evil (especially before the HD remake)
-Most indie games
-Viewtiful Joe
-Resident Evil 4 when it was a GCN exclusive
-Retro Game Challenge
-Rayman Legends
-The entirety of the Dreamcast essentially
-Ace Attorney series
-Zero Escape series
-Almost any game that plays like Zelda that isn't Zelda
-Most of the Metroid series
-Star Fox: Command
-At least half of my top 10 Wii games list
-Nearly anything Treasure made
-Nearly anything Platinum made
-Most good Vita exclusives
-Anything you will make in your life if it's really good
Underrated has to be one of the most misused words on the internet. There are no official Zelda games that were not critical and commercial successes. It is one of, if not the most highly acclaimed video games series in history.
An interesting discussion would be why everybody's favorite Zelda game is either Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, or Twilight Princess, and in most cases, it's whichever of those you played when you were 10.
That doesn't really apply to me because I basically played almost all the Zelda games between the ages of 9-12, and the only ones I still hold in high regard are Twilight Princess, Zelda 1, and A Link Between Worlds - which I played after that period.

While Twilight Princess is my favorite I bought it about two years ago and while my first impression was that it looked a bit dated compared to newer Wii games, I fell in love with it. I was 18 at the time. OoT, WW and SS never clicked with me. I prefer 2D Zelda games as a whole over 3D Zelda games.

The Oracle games are some of the best entries in the franchise, yet I don't hear much about them in relation to other games in the series.
I didn't pay them any attention back when they came out because Capcom was involved. I just thought if they weren't made by Nintendo then they weren't proper games in the series. I'm eating my words now of course.
Also I'm sure it's been said but lol at the title. I believe the average Metacritic score for the series is probably over 85%

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.

The Capcom games have always been the step-children of the series (quite literally, too, because they were essentially fathered by another developer). I imagine that people don't really view these games as truly Nintendo, because in a sense, they're right. There are things in the Oracle games that Nintendo themselves wouldn't have come up with. I wouldn't have imagined a perks system for Zelda until I saw the rings in the Oracle games. Plus. the role of Ralph in the Oracle of Ages was kinda weird. There are just certain things in that game that are much different from the usual Nintendo package.
The same goes for Minish Cap, although I don't care for that one as much.
EDIT: looks like Spoony_Tech kinda reaffirmed my theory
I guess the Oracle games? Each one seems to have a fair amount of attention....
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
@OP I know you're trying, but it...it just doesn't work. At the very least the handheld entries and Four Swords Adventures are the only ones that occasionally get left out of the conversation of greatest games of all time...and almost half of them deserve such neglect...You're basically saying "which Zelda game deserves a shinier platinum medal?" At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how shiny that medal is, what matters is that most series are lucky if they can barely earn Gold...just be happy knowing that you're playing the best, and even the desenters are mostly nitpicking...
