Topic: This website redesign!

I didn't see any specific topic for it yet, so I decided to make one.

Just look at this redesign! This has to be one of the most drastic, if not the most drastic redesign the site has ever had! Everything is re-ordered, there are new tabs for things like fanart, you can now add your own banner on your profile, user scores for games are now available, and I'm sure that I'm still only scraping the service!

When I first saw this a few minutes ago, I was shocked. This is going to take some time to get used to. I do like it though. I was just starting to feel like Nintendo Life was ready for something new (though I wasn't expecting that new thing to be such a drastic change), and I'm totally up for it! It looks fresh, and more organised. I like how you can now just scroll down to the tab of your choice on the main page, rather than have to scroll through all the different topics in chronological order. User scores are also something I've been anticipating for a long time.

The only thing I kind of miss is the forum bar that was on the side of the old homepage. I liked being able to just take a gander at it and see what was being posted on the forums. But that's a minor complaint. I'm excited to see how the site is going to grow from here, and I'm going to be busy for a while now just sending in user scores. Good job on the redesign guys!

When I logged on and saw this, my first reaction was "WHAT!? WHAT THE **** HAPPENED!?" But I immediately calmed down and went "Alright. I can accept this.".

I'm not sure yet how I feel about it. I miss the same thing as you in the forum side bar but I do like how everything is more organized. Like you said this will take some time to get use to.

Since I search this site in my phone I had thought my phone reverted to the mobile page so I went down to click desktop and it wasn't there. Then I seen I Twitter it wasn't me or my phone lol.

It looks pretty good I think however one thing I hope that gets changed soon (unless I just didn't see it) is an option to be able to use the desktop site again when on a phone. I absolutely hate the mobile versions of websites for the most part so I always prefer to use the desktop version of I can.

God awful. Mobile format of the website on PC is stupid.

I like this much more as you don't get video ads in the articles.

I didn't even notice some of the changes yet. I like the new additions but it's a bit too bright and I also liked the forum bar which seems to be gone now although you can see the latest posts by hovering mouse over Forums button.

Well that was random and unexpected.

The new forum format looks like it's going to take a while to get used to.

My I initial reaction was that I don't like it. No more tags for articles; no information about the author on the article pages; no recent forum posts; I liked the old chronological order timeline of articles the new one seems like it'll be easier to miss things now. Comments also don't load with the page instead you have to tell it to load them (with a slower connection it would help but I imagine it'd be a minor difference).

And overall it all seems too blue, and that's coming from a guy who's favorite color is blue.

Oh and the banner now scrolls with the page on articles thus filling up my possible reading/image viewing space.

All my opinions are from viewing it from an iPhine 5s. Haven't looked at the desktop yet.

I wish there was a preference setting under user profile for how I want to view the site while logged in.

I hope I can get used to this.

It's a disaster on my phone though.. Not a big fan of it. I wonder if it's better on PC.

Here, here. Lately there's been a few sites I use that are switching to mobile format which I can't stand.

I'm going to miss the top-down chronological view of the articles. The 3-a-row format kinda screws things up for me.

Edit: Nevermind, found that you can still view it as a list.

Well I've only seen the desktop version. I usually don't mind mobile sites if they work properly. I haven't checked it out yet so I'm not the one to judge here, but I assume they'll fix that in later updates. They just released an article highlighting the changes, and they specifically state more updates are coming, so I'll just wait and see what happens.

@Dave24 wait, is it the same in PC? If so then I probably won't be much of a fan of this at all...

It looks very sterile. Like a news aggregator site.
If it had more chill (less bright?) layout that showed a bit of personality I think the new design would be greatly improved. The default blue colour sticks out too much for a colour that's meant as decor. The site looks better in the retro section with a more muted red palette.

In all seriousness, though... this is definitely going to take a while to get used to. The mobile version doesn't have an option for desktop view, though... And I'm already missing the recent forums topic on the homepage. That isn't a big deal since I can access the recent topics in the tabs below the website name.

@yokokazuo: The mobile version is basically a watered-down version of the PC version, with no option for desktop view. I don't think I'll be using the mobile version if there's no way to get a desktop view...

I am liking it so far but I need to check it on my phone to see how it looks.

@arronishere: I hoped this bad trend died 2 years ago. I guess I was wrong.
@yokokazuo: Yes, it is the same. On phone I guess it would look cool, but on PC it looks horrendous.

On 1440p it looks atrocious
