Is that one of the “official” ones that says, I think, SLS on the back? (Been a while since I've looked into this. I wanted a controller like that and eventually settled for the PDP Versus Controller wherewith to play Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection.) I read a bunch of people complain that their un“official” ones were poor quality, but they might have been unlucky or reckless.

I got a retrolink one, not sure if that's what you're talking about. I checked Amazon, and a lot of people had problems with it. But I will say that so far, so good. If it ever breaks, though, I can always switch to my PS4 controller, which also has a nice D-Pad.

Been playing Garou: Mark of the Wolves on my PC (Via MAME) with a Saturn-Style USB controller I bought from eBay, and it is great. Still a blast to play, and having a decent controller makes it 100x more playable. I'm sure a stick might make it better(?), but considering I only spent less than $20 on this controller, I'm pretty happy.

Also, just noticed that The King of Fighters '98: Ultimate Match and The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match are both on Steam now, which means I no longer have to put up with the lousy 360 controller just to play them, nor do I have to bother with the PS2 port of '98, which wasn't the best, IIRC. Plus I'll have more to flex my new controller with...once they go on sale. Really hoping there's one by the end of next month, since I also want some other stuff that I'm itching to play...

Why not just use an emulator to play the PS2 versions on PC?

BearHunger

@CanisWolfred I see. That's good, I might buy one of those sometime. I've seen Retrolink controllers in some retro stores. The “SLS” Saturn-style controller, if I remember correctly, was a USB controller Sega released in Japan and is now rare and expensive. (I think SLS stood for “Sega Logistic Systems,” but I may be getting into error propagation territory here. ) People on fighting game forums seemed to treat that like some holy grail of fightpads and deemed all imitators trash. I ended up going with the aforementioned PDP controller because I knew for certain that there would be no button mapping issues on PS3.

@SuperWiiU - The PS2 versions aren't as good as the Steam versions, which aren't quite straight ports, they actually have a few extra bells and whistles, particularly online-play and some all-too-important rebalancing (I ended up just playing the Neo Geo version of '98 on the PS2 instead of Ultimate Match because I had so many issues...). Granted, most of these came on the XBLA versions, which I do own, but the 360 controller is still useless for fighting games, so that's out. Really, SNK's stuff wasn't that good on the PS2 except for XI. But I wouldn't mind playing that on PC, too, if they give that a few upgrades...

Also, they never localized Unlimited Match's PS2 port. Hell, they didn't even localize the XBLA version. Most of it's still in Japanese, last time I played (which was last year...). I like reading the Win quotes, and not having to fumble with menus I can't understand, so having the Steam version would be preferable.

The real Sega ones are really expensive. (They were bundled with an obscure Puyo Puyo game that only sold a few thousand copies).

I think the slightly more common SLS ones are still un-official but made using the stolen moulds.

The rest are dire. (That are Sega / Play Sega / branded all fake).

Any of e.g that Retrolink stuff is a total gamble (Look at how many different boxes you can get supposedly the same thing in - cloned and recloned).

If you go for something like Purple chances are it is real. (Either the USB or PS2 ones).

I tried to do that with that exact controller but I couldn't find a single one that had the same box as the reviews I was looking at that said it was good so I didn't risk it.

Hideaki Itsuno of Devil May Cry and Rival Schools says he already has a story for Rival Schools 3 and would love a new entry! He told fans to go ask Capcom for it.

Oh man the possibility of RS3 makes me so excited! Don't play with my heart Capcom, just let the man do it!

Already sent over my feelings as best as I could (...I posted in a thread on Capcom-Unity. What do you want from me? It's not like they have an email address I can spam, and I don't do twitter or facebook...). I hope things work out in the end, I mean, c'mon...it's not like there are tons of 3D fighting games left on the market these days...even Soul Calibur's in trouble after 3 lousy installments...

^Man, I made an account there years ago when I bought SSFIV3D. I'm gonna have to dig up the password to help you out. I tweeted at the Capcom unity page but I really doubt that has any effect. Itsuno has been saying this kind of stuff since 2013 now. Capcom better announce a Rival Schools 3 within a couple of years! This is probably a large part of why Inafune left.

In happier news Iron Galaxy is an absolutely fantastic developer. They and Microsoft announced a campaign today to help expand Killer Instinct's tournament scene. Returning fighter Cinder comes out this Thursday and for the first two weeks 100% of profit from Cinder sales until they reach $100,000 will be going towards pot bonuses for EVO and growing the KI scene. Microsoft and Iron Galaxy will make no profit for two weeks to help grow KI! This is beautiful and incredibly generous.

You will also be able to buy Shadow Jago and in game currency in a $20 bundle that also goes toward the tournament campaign. Shadow Jago for 2 years was only available to people who bought the game day one or preordered I believe. If they reach $100,000 they will turn Shadow Jago into a full character rather than just a Jago skin too.

Needless to say I'm ecstatic to see so much love put into the new Killer Instinct. I'm THIIIS closing to caving in and buying an Xbone. D:

So I've been playing Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 on my DC like crazy recently, it's such an amazing game.

So I played SSF43D and liked it, and I'm getting a PC before the summer sale. I was wondering if I should buy USF4 for PC during the sale or wait until SF5 comes out (I've got a limited budget, so for now both is not an option).

Not much to say here. I like Nintendo. That's about it.

Wow, I remembered my username and password on my second try. Well, I posted in the Rival Schools 3 thread I could find, hope that helps. My username on there is just my first name. Dear God, what was I thinking?

Well, SFV won't be coming out until Spring of next year if that leak is still true so I'd say you should jump on the sale. Get used to the game and get a feel for characters you like.

It's probably really late to get good results but I won't be able to post again until 4 tomorrow and by then I'll forget, so.

Any fighting game fans on here in the Galloping Ghost Arcade area? They're the largest arcade in the world and have a toooon of fighting game cabinets. I was thinking of talking to them to potentially set up a tournament when I noticed how many obscure fighters they have including Rival Schools!

I thought I'd see if there'd be any interest on forums i frequent before I talk to them about a tournament since they have the arcade cabinet. Any interest around here?

Hey, at least you didn't call yourself "Juego". I don't even know how I came up with that...

I take it back, Juego is apparently spanish for "play", as in "to play a game". That is genius.

Well I got together with some coworkers last night to play some games and we ended up playing Soul Caliber II for the whole time. It was the HD remake on XBLA but it played just as good as I remembered it, my only gripe was no Link . Still though it's amazing how well this game held up and it's still my favorite in the Soul series. I have played the others but I don't know the others just don't feel as good as this one. I just can't put my finger on it. But yeah think I am going to hook up my Wii today and play some Soul Caliber II.

Also on the fighting game subject I think I will pick up Ultra Street Fighter 4 on PS4 on Tuesday. Yeah I know I say I am not going to get sucked into the whole Ultra Deluxe Hyper fighting Championship Colossal Mega editions but for some reason when it comes to SF I just can't say no.

Plus the last version is always the best. Street Fighter V was announced a while ago. Now's the perfect time to play Street Fighter 4.

Oh I have played it before I had Super Street Fighter IV but it was on the 360 and I don't care for the 360 controller. Also thought about getting it on 3DS but not till they add all the other versions to the 3DS version.
