I just remembered Metal Wolf Chaos exists and I could buy and play it right now if I wanted to. But I can't justify spending time on it compared to many other games I've also not played, a lot of which I've already bought.
This is a tragedy. The tragedy of not playing Metal Wolf Chaos.
Some late responses, but been busy with IRL stuff and enjoying a new game. GOG had a classics sale, so decided to try an X-COM game, specifically 1995's classic, Terror from the Deep. Cool concept, aliens invading earth, but you battle them underwater. Took a bit of learning, but I think I got the hang of it. Now I'm reminded to go back and play Mario+Rabbids, since it's a similar X-COM style turn based game. Like it so far.
Now onto those responses, so apologies for late replies.
Yeah, same here. The most recent game I've been playing was Super Mario RPG. Been playing the heck out of that, and I managed to get some decent progress in Sonic Superstars as well. As for real life stuff, I'll be putting away Christmas decorations, and prepping for my birthday. Glad to hear you liked Trolls Remix Rescue.
Now that I got some hands-on time with Sonic Superstars, it is a solid Sonic game for sure. I even went ahead and tried out all the playable characters, too. Right now, I wanna try to go for all the Chaos Emeralds before I finish the game. I think I got five of them? The last special stage I played gave me trouble... thank goodness they have the decency to let me keep trying, albeit by starting the whole level over. The big ring wasn't too far away from the start, thankfully.
Your brother sounds pretty similar to me in regards to the Sonic series. Always liked the Genesis games the best, as well as Mania, but I do like the Adventure and Advance games quite a bit as well. The boost games are all right, I did like Colors and Generations (I didn't like Unleashed), but not among my absolute favorites in the mainline Sonic series. I only tried out the Sonic Boom games via eShop demos long ago, and just wasn't into them. I do respect you like Sonic Boom in general though, and heck, Sonic as a whole.
I've not been to any of Disney's parks either, but I would love to go to them, especially Disney World. There's quite a lot of things I'd love to experience over there. The closest I ever got was that Disney store when I went on vacation to visit my grandmother. I got plushes for Belle and Anna over there! I think they had a brochure that had a map for one of the Disney parks, and I recall there were train tracks circling around the park. That's pretty much how I first learned about the Disney trains and stuff. I guess one reason why I've not been to the Disney parks was that when I first heard of them, I was under the impression that they would be mostly thrill rides, and I had a bad experience with a roller coaster. I do think that Disney World has something for everyone over there though, last I knew. That would be cool to meet Poppy at Universal, I think I'd mainly go there for Super Nintendo World. I'm so meeting Mario, Luigi, and Peach over there when I visit. I can tell Peach you say hi to her if you want.
Ah yeah, both Super Mario RPG and Sonic 3D Blast also had a similar art style to each other, so I can understand how Mario RPG was a bit off-putting for you, lol. I think I'm slowly getting back into RPGs, thanks to the Mario RPG remake on Switch. Assuming I don't get burnt out, maybe I'll head back into Dragon Quest XI or Xenoblade Chronicles 1. Tokyo Mirage Sessions is another good one to head back to, I did hear it's not too long. I used to like Pokemon Snap on the N64, I have yet to get the Switch one.
Oh gotcha, that makes sense. Since you've been into PC games a lot longer than I have. I do wanna finish Sonic Superstars as well, I think I'm almost done with it. Just wanna get a couple more Chaos Emeralds then I'll finish the game off. Anytime.
Hope you're enjoying both games. I already have my Christmas stuff taken down, just waiting for the first nice day (not too cold) to take down the outside lights (they're not being turned on anymore). I had an appointment the other day, some still have their lights up, still nice to see even if it's early January. I went for my monthly pizza trip first week of January and the pizzeria was still decorated. I do, the only downside I can think of is I ran into some bugs during my playthrough, otherwise, it's exactly what I wanted from a Trolls game. I like booting it up just to explore around.
Nice, I started out playing as Amy, and played a level as Sonic. I still need to try Tails and Knuckles. I do want to figure out how to change skins, since I did get the modern Amy skin for the game. I still need to redeem the code in my case for the Lego Eggman skin. I didn't do it right away because Christmas and servers usually get swamped on Christmas.
Yeah, he always prefered the classic games. In fact when my nephew had a Wii, he even borrowed my copy of Sonic Mega Collection. Cool, which Unleashed did you play? I'm guessing the Wii one since it's on Nintendo, I know there's a different version on Xbox/PS3. I loved Colors and finally played Generations when I got my new PC years ago, before that it was the 3DS one. That's fine, and thanks. I also enjoyed the Sonic Boom cartoon, even if I was late to it and saw the show after the DVD releases.
Nice, I think the local Disney Store (now no longer at my local mall) is the closest to a Disney place I've been to too. Sounds nice, I had a similar experience years ago. Wore my Anna and Elsa shirt and bought Anna and Elsa plushies from them. Last time I was there was in 2019, I got a Vanelope Von Schweetz plush, from the movie Wreck-It Ralph. Oh ok, I never really saw Disney as a thrill park outside a few rides. I just always saw it as a place to meet your favorite characters, then again, I'm looking at Universal the same way... I see those meetable Trolls, Universal. Super Nintendo World would be another place to visit.
Yup, that 3D Isometric style both games had. I think if I played the game nowadays, I think I would know what to do since I understand RPGs better. Sounds like a good plan with RPGs.
Nice, I still want to play it more. Now if I can pull myself away from playing Trolls, X-COM, and Jagged Alliance, I could play more Sonic. Just fun exploring that Trolls world, and playing some DOS classics.
@Sunsy There were some gender neutral toy sets sorta like those when I was a kid too. I remember having three Pokemon ones: a town/house theme with Charmander/Eevee, a forest one with Pikachu/Bulbasaur, and a beach one with Squirtle/Poliwhirl.
Very busy Christmas. I wasn't home that day since roughly 9:30 in the morning. Usually I have a lot of family stuff going on. Didn't help that mom wanted a full meal; I would've been fine with soup and crackers since I knew there'd be a huge meal at my grandma's that night. She lives a good distance away and the meal started late too. One of my cousins works at a hospital and had a 12 hour shift Christmas Day.
Those sound really awesome. I had no idea they made Pokemon themed ones, sounded like something I would have went for back during Pokemon's heyday. Speaking of, I took some pics of the Trolls Polly Pocket I found while I was out...
It looks like this closed...
When opened, it looks like this...
That is really busy. I still hope it was a good Christmas. I hear you on the big meal thing, my mom always did seafood on Christmas eve as it's tradition. That was when my brother lived with us and got together with family, nowadays, I try to keep up the tradition by making Salmon. No need for a big seafood dinner, since it's the two of us.
Edit: Ok, it went through. Good thing I copy and paste my posts in a notepad document, because, seeing errors after a big post always startles me, lol.
Is there a name for the subgenre of platformers 'single rooms/small areas between levels/checkpoints with lots of spikes and some version of double jump and pixel art'? Because there are literally hundreds. Meat Boy-likes? 🤔
@Smth2024 damn lol, minecraft story mode was really good honestly, you made me wanna play it now hmmm, but wait i gotta finish super mario galaxy 2 on my wii, then maybe i will go finish mc story mode 1 and 2
No i don't live in a tent just because i live in a desert
@Smth2024 probably someone who knows more about Minecraft than me because I had no clue it has story mode. I thought all survival modes end with killing the dtagon
Bring me the sesame, miso, citrus and pepper flavored fish cakes
hmm.... that includes things like 'only up' which is about as far from meat boy or a 1-room platformer as you can get. But precision platformers may be as close of a genre name as exists. Thanks; that Glitchwave link you sent is interesting.
@FishyS I just thought how to name it and literally typed "precise platformers" in google and it suggested "precision platformers" so thank uncle Google
Are you looking for something specific?
Bring me the sesame, miso, citrus and pepper flavored fish cakes
@Princess_Lilly I have no real goal, I just own like 30 games of form 'pixel double jumping in room with spikes' so suddenly got curious if it had a name. 😆
I have a theory (philosophy?) that any very well-defined subgenre of games which includes over 100 games and multiple famous games should get a special genre name. But I think this is not actually true even if I want it to be. 😝 Although that link you sent does have a lot of other fun subgenre names like 'bullet heaven roguelike'
Flatmate came back today before the start of term and he suddenly brought a girl over so me and my other flatmate played Mario Kart at eleven at night with the volume turned up high just to mess with him.
@Sunsy I was head over heels for Pokemon back in the day, and I do still quite like the series lol. Not sure if some of those sets are still at my parents' place or if they were donated. That is a really neat Trolls set! I think they went the extra mile to give the Poppy case actual hair lol. It's amazing what they can cram into the inside.
Overall it was a good Christmas. I got to see many young cousins, which was a plus. I'd love a holiday meal with more of a seafood thing, but I'm an outlier when it comes to wanting to eat a lot of it in my family. The closest we get is oyster dressing, a holiday staple on my dad's side. I like it, but it definitely isn't for everyone. Nor is it something that can be eaten often since I now know what all goes into the casserole dish lol. There's a TON of salt involved since saltine crackers are a major component.
@MarioLover92 Good luck in the Splatfest! I hope above all else that it's fun.
Makes sense when it comes to drawing objects, especially since everyone sees the world differently. Photos are best if you're trying to recreate a 2D character 1:1 IMO. Though I'm one of those crazy people who likes Still Life. A pretty solid process for your Merry Mountain drawing, moreso since you have Mario and Peach figures lol. The randomization was pretty fun, though I had to make a few tweaks in testing since it didn't always behave like I wanted.
To be fair, I'm pretty biased towards many Disney villain songs, so my expectations were high. I like a decent amount of non-villain Disney songs too, but I do think they intentionally make many of the villain ones more catchy. Poor, Unfortunate Souls is a great one too. I'm afraid to watch the recent live action release of the Little Mermaid partially due to that....
Super Paper Mario had one of the best plots out of a Mario-related game IMO. So much of it was great, and I played it long after release! I found a used copy at GameStop and fell in love. I quite like some of the different worlds and WTF moments, especially the surprise Peach dating sim due to how corny it was. XD I'll spare you my Color Splash impressions for now since I've went into detail before. The Origami King's combat ranged from sort of creative to plain frustrating. I hated the timers. While some of the boss fights were fun, a couple others were painful. The Phoenix one almost made me rage quit. I didn't realize getting inked in MK8D affected traction, likely because you can't see half the screen anyway. XD
