@Sunsy
I was wondering why does Minecraft keep always get more appreciation than Portal Knights and Dragon Quest Builders 1 + 2 even with way much better graphic ?
I knew graphics doesn't really matter for some peoples but for me, I cannot even call the blocky things from Minecraft as beautiful things. It just look plain awful for me to see all blocky things (blocky peoples, blocky trees, blocky animals, etc) while Portal Knights and DQB 1 + 2 with beautiful detailed looking things yet still cartoonish looking but peoples still like Minecraft more than Portal Knights & DQB 1 + 2. It's really bothering me at some point as some peoples really have bad taste in term of liking certain things and the effect, a lot of peoples just become brainless follower without understanding which is good things or not and it made me irritated to see how does the society grew by this situation. Sometimes I hate the world I live to see the situation is not what I want to see.

@Anti-Matter That, I wouldn't have an answer for, especially since I'm a really casual Minecraft player. I don't play it often. Also, I haven't played those games, so I can't speak for them.

I think the appeal of Minecraft is you can build stuff. Survival mode is gathering and crafting stuff to build a world to play and survive in. Then there's creative mode, I think this mode is the appeal as you can make anything happen.

As for graphics, I think being blocky is the design since you can put blocks together and build something, like a building for example, or get really creative and make something wild. I've seen crazy creations from Minecraft's creative mode when browsing the net.

@Sunsy For me the appeal of Minecraft is that is has a charm that the other games that imitate it doesn't.

You can just turn it on and play for 10 minutes then turn it off. Then play it whenever you feel like it.

It is a game that does not make you login to do something every day or something like that.

But from you post I can see that Anti is hating things again ... and again.

@Fizza Awesome, congrats!

@Zuljaras That too, I think it appeals to people for different reasons. I think the most I spent in Minecraft was making a big Smurfette out of blocks on the Wii U one, I was impressed with it. Playing with a friend, my friend and I had a good time together playing. Also, if you keep digging and digging, you can discover some new place underground, or find a way out.

There's lots of reasons why something appeals to someone, same is said about Minecraft. Though I did just want to respond to TheStardustWarrior, since I've played online with a friend and don't have Realms (AFAIK, it's a subscription to run a 24/7 server, while regular online games save in place and don't have a sub).

@Sunsy
For me in my opinion, I don't see the appeal to play with all blocky things from Minecraft, it just something disturbing for my eyes.
Better you try Portal Knights and Dragon Quest Builders 2 as they are available on Steam too. There are some communities who still playing those games.
And that's why I gave score for Portal Knights with 92/100, DQB 2 with 96/100 for exceeding my expectations.

Just want to say something, I haven't said anything about this, the reason I've been so busy lately is because I'm moving today. It's been stressful, honestly, my birthday and the Sonic 2 movie have been the only break I've had from this, also chatting here has helped too. I'm hoping everything goes smoothly.

Well, I just looked the film up & that's what it said for it's length, @Sunsy .... Of course, in the cinema, there's about 30mins of ads before the main feature

So...

I took a week off work to drive from Wisconsin down to Mississipi and New Orleans with my mom and brother to scatter my dad's ashes.

We got through Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, and then just a few miles into Mississippi, the car breaks down on I-55. Think the timing chain broke. My mom was driving and it just suddenly cut off. She wasn't able to coast it off the interstate completely so we were partially in the left lane- extremely dangerous with tons of traffic coming.

We had no idea where we were aside from being 20 miles past Memphis, no mile markers in sight, just stranded.

Thankfully a cop pulled behind us and called a tow company, and the cop gave us a ride to a hotel in Hernando, MS. Really nice cops. Me and my bro rode in the back of one and my mom in another. The cop said his dad was a Methodist preacher and had recently passed, and was from Louisiana where we were ultimately heading.

So we're in a Hilton Inn in Hernando, Mississippi until Monday when the mechanic opens and a car rental service opens. Will have to see if the car is worth fixing (all 3 of us have new cars but mom wanted to take her spare car, what I call the Time Machine as it looks like it's from another era, because it's larger and more luxurious, even though it's older... poor decision in hindsight). Otherwise, sell it for scrap, rent a car from Enterprise and drive the rest of the way to Southern Mississippi on Monday to stay with my cousin, then New Orleans on Wednesday to scatter ashes, and head back to Wisconsin Friday and turn the car in near where I live.

What a trip.

@JaxonH Something similar happened to us a few years back on a family roadtrip to Disney World, except my mother lost control of the steering wheel and collided with one of those walls on the side of the highway. Only one police officer initially happened by, though, so the brother-in-law and I were stranded on the side of a highway for over an hour until the towing vehicle came by, since we obviously loaded the girls into the back of the police car to get them out of the situation. Afterwards, we just rented a car and completed our trip to Florida.

Sorry to hear about your father, but I'm glad it sounds like you all got out of your sticky highway situation in one piece.

@Ralizah
It sucks! You never think about planning for situations like that because the odds seem so low. I may look for an app that helps when stranded, that uses your location and tells you who's the closest tow company and the nearest hotel... assuming an app like that exists.

Sounds like it might be best to just rent a car for any cross country trips. Not worth the risk.

You guys are really fortunate to have not gotten hurt colliding into that concrete wall. We crossed a massive bridge across the Mississippi River within a half hour of breaking down. Would have been really bad breaking down on that bridge lol. Cars backed up for miles, honking, "whattaya want me to do!".

Taking the elevator up to the 3rd floor of the hotel, the inside of the door had a pic of two older ladies in the back of a convertible laughing their butts off, and it said "LOL" next to the picture. My brother said they were mocking us and laughing at us with no car as they enjoy their blissful drive in their convertible 😆

Better off these days with mobile phones, @JaxonH .... Not sure about the odds of a breakdown but the more driving you do & especially long distances, it's likely to happen eventually
At least none of you were hurt & you're safe, which is the main thing

Apologies for not writing back sooner, been kind of busy with stuff.

@Sunsy Same here actually, I normally keep things small for birthdays as well. Can't blame you on the DLC, this is something I could not miss out on since I love the Mario Kart games! I'm still hoping that they do the same thing with Mario Party Superstars.

That sounds like he's got some cool content. It's been a long time since I last heard about Microsoft Internet Games, lol - I think I only used it once. Only really played the regular card games that were built into Windows back in the day. Stuff like solitaire and hearts. I loved Space Cadet Pinball, that's easily the best built-in game...too bad it no longer comes in newer versions of Windows.

Ah gotcha, that makes sense with that door. Yeah, Hyperstone Heist was an original game that used Turtles in TIme's assets and gameplay. You'll probably like it.

Edit: Oh and I hope things go smoothly with the moving, as well. I know how you feel - it's a ton of work to pack everything so I totally see how it's stressful. Best of luck - it'll all be over soon enough!

@Zuljaras Yeah, I have quite a lot of games as well, and I do like to draw, as you may remember. Speaking of drawing, I was thinking of making a Super Mario Bros. 3 drawing myself! I have a Raccoon Mario figure, as well as a Tanooki Mario figure that's based on the SMB3 design.

@Tyranexx Ah I remember Recess, it's been a while since I've seen it and other Disney Channel shows. At least from the 80s and 90s - the other ones I remember watching were DuckTales, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, and even Gargoyles.

Oh cool, so I'm currently playing your favorite WL game then. I am liking it quite a bit. I never played the Virtual Boy game either. On Golden Sun - ohhh, gotcha, so it's just like how Sonic 3 was split into two games. Thanks for the heads up - so there's quite a lot of story involved huh?

@tekoii Good to hear. Best of luck.

@JaxonH Ouch, really sorry to hear about the car. That must have been real frustrating to deal with (same with what @Ralizah had to put up with), but it sounds like you guys are doing ok in the end! And of course, sorry about your dad's passing.

Well, you can usually find games like that still around, @MarioLover92 .... But it seems there were major issues with that particular game going to 64 bit
The original Devs got brought & merged & so on, while the actual people that worked on it moved on in various ways. Of course, like they used to do a lot, they cleverly lost the original source code
So, at least you can now understand why it's gone. Maybe others here play those sorts of games more to suggest alternatives?

@Zuljaras I think I have been getting more consistent with how much I draw. I would need to hype myself up before I did, then I just wouldn't do it, now I can do it stress free.

So, moving was ok. I still have to go back to the old home for some things I missed (we moved with a small van), but most of my stuff is with me. Including PC, games, game systems, DVDs, bed, and my plushies. First night sleeping was hard, but I noticed the space between my bed and the wall is about the same, so I plan to recreate my space to make it similar to my old place for comfort.

@MarioLover92 Yeah. Also, playing earlier, I noticed something... there's a nice little retro detail on Coconut Mall I missed the first time playing.

I remember solitaire, and my dad being hooked to minesweeper and Spider solitaire. I don't think I ever tried the Internet version of those games. Yes, I remember that pinball game.

Very cool! I'm surprised I'm just hearing about this game given my brother had a Genesis.

Posted an update, it went ok. Still need to go get some things from the old place as we used a van instead of a big moving truck.

@BruceCM Oh you're talking about the pinball game, right? Yeah, I've seen a video about it and it was an interesting watch. I do have a similar game, which is Zen Pinball for the 3DS. It's quite a solid pinball game and it comes with 4 tables.

@Zuljaras Agreed - will do, then. SMB3 is one of my all-time favorites, as well! I haven't been drawing as much as I'd like to either - really wanna change that.

@Sunsy Glad to hear the moving went all right! That was a cool detail they made for sure, the middle of the track that has the old-school Mario scenery with blocks and pipes.

That's cool. I did play quite a bit of solitaire and spider solitaire back in the day. Though I never really got into minesweeper myself. Like, I'd uncover a mine every time I play, lol. The pinball game came with our copy of Windows 95 Plus, I believe - I liked playing it quite a lot. It came with a bunch of cool wallpapers and sound effects, one theme that I truly remember was the one that takes place inside a computer.
