My face when I learned that there IS actually a game/card shop near where I am:

Untitled

There used to be a different one, but it closed several years ago. I didn't know there was a new one until I started poking around online a bit.

@Anti-Matter Yep, if it's been that long, you'll likely have to build up your body strength again. Which might include playing on slightly lower difficulties or practicing somehow and working your way up. Regarding your age, in my humble opinion we're only as old as we feel; I agree you shouldn't overdo it, but that also doesn't mean you should let up on what you love doing just because of an arbitrary age number.

Interesting history on those In The Groove machines, and why I haven't heard of them. Though arcades large enough to run large and expensive setups like DDR aren't common where I live. I think the last time I saw a machine was at a huge ticket arcade when traveling several years ago. I actually work for a company that collects income from and maintains arcade machines among other things (though that isn't my personal job), but none of the machines they own are DDR or any sort of rhythm dance setups.

@Sunsy Yep lol. I'd be less reluctant - though still nervous - if the cart didn't even function. I'll be uncomfortable when building my own PC too, but at least in those cases I'll have receipts and warranties should something go south. And I do have some computer know-how. XD

@Eel I do believe we're allowed to talk about Bruno in this thread?

@Zuljaras Love love LOVE that Leonardo figure! My favorite part is the speared pizza slice. That's one way to cut a pizza....

@MarioLover92 Tanooki Mario is so iconic IMO that I'm surprised they stopped using that power-up for a bit. I'm fine with Nintendo experimenting with other power-ups (See: Super Mario Galaxy 1&2), but they gotta keep a few classics besides Fireball Mario around.

@Sunsy I plan on giving Encanto a watch sometime soon, hopefully within the next couple of days. That's what I'm shooting for. I also got Kiki's Delivery Service on blu-ray/DVD, I wanna see that soon too. I'll also try to remember to post what I thought of those movies right here. That's cool you still get DVDs. Just curious, do you get blu-rays at all, or you don't have a blu-ray player?

@Tyranexx Yeah I agree, I'd be happy to see Tanooki Mario stick around throughout the series. At least with the more classic-styled Mario platformers. Mario's such a huge icon to begin with, pretty much everyone knows the more famous power-ups throughout the whole series, especially the NES/SNES eras.

Adding to what you said to Anti, there were more recent occasions where I feel like I've gotten worse at games as I get older. Sometimes, I'd make costly mistakes like losing lives by accident when I could've avoided those instances myself. Which did happen a couple times when I was playing Super Mario Bros. 3 just a couple nights ago (just felt like playing it), but I still beat the whole game - all levels finished - which was great. A couple of my recent Mario Kart online races even saw me get hit by my own green shell, and that REALLY bothers me! I guess I'm bad at using green shells after all, besides using them defensively. I swear, I was better at games when I was younger! I'm likely exaggerating and being too hard on myself here, but I just can't help but think that at times. Perhaps, it's just me being too overly confident.

@Tyranexx Jeez that sounds rough, I'm sorry to hear that. Come to think of it I've been getting less sleep than usual too, but it only kicks me awake around five in the morning. I'd consider that to be an acceptable time, and it's definitely not insomnia, but I tend to get around eight hours exactly nowadays. I'd advise not holding out too long to see a doctor, but first see if resolving all your problems fixes your sleep. Take care in the meantime. As for my essay-to-be, I'm gonna give it my all. I'll give an update when the time is right, but for now, appreciate the encouragement! It'll help out loads. (this was written before I already responded to it but it’s a good starting point)

That’s the issue with playing a new game in my opinion, especially one that’s new or highly anticipated. With a game so hyped up as, say, Elden Ring, or Cyberpunk, most times they’re bound to give into the hype and hurt the game’s reception based on false promises. The best thing Nintendo does in this department is have very specific marketing and a crystal focus as to what they want to tell us. Their team is clever in that they know what fans like to see, and have the capacity to see an idea through, since 99/100 times it’s in the game. Being specific is key when it comes to explaining stuff and that’s one thing games like Death Stranding and XC2 fail at horribly. You can guess which one goes overboard with being specific and which one misses the mark. The affinity system in 2 is a joke though. I didn’t even notice it was there until I finished a few quests, and it has no in-game benefits other than lowered prices. And even then you start out well up for cash.

Gacha sucks too, and that’s why I was surprised to get KOS-MOS. I’m probably never gonna get her again, which is a shame because of how powerful she is. The reason the gacha mechanics in 2 are so bad is because of the overwhelming possibility of getting a Common Blade. There is no one core crystal that you can get that guarantees a Rare Blade other than the ones that have specific ones, like Wulfric, Sheba, et cetera. In other games collecting items is done so that you’d always get a new type of item instead of getting the same tired thing over and over again. I wonder if 3 has systems like this. Seems we’ll have to wait a week or six to find out whether it does or not, since Nintendo’s definitely gonna do a Direct around what would be E3 time.

It’s a far-out stance but the main reason I love it is because of the voice acting. They absolutely nailed it; down to the last syllable. I don’t think I could come up with better VAs to do the jobs they did in the game. I’m particularly talking about the main four but Ardyn (Darin De Paul, who was Luxaar from Xenoblade X), Prompto (Robbie Daymond, who would play Akechi in Persona 5), and Ignis (Adam Croasdell) in particular stand out as absolute beacons of good voice acting. Ardyn’s voice is like a lotion, silky smooth and hopelessly good. Now I’ve made it to the controversial Chapter 13 I can definitely point out flaws in the very thing I was complementing. The game becomes so linear after chapter 9, and there’s a mechanic to get back to the open world, sort of begrudgingly.

As for Octopath Traveler, that’s kinda in line with what I imagined you would say. After doing a few semi-playthroughs I realised the stories were all the same in terms of pacing, structure and content. Have a backstory, do a few bosses, defeat the final boss, job done. I also hate how much the game forces you to grind, it takes hours to get to the recommended level. A problem like this is easily fixed, by multiplying EXP enemies give by 4x. But ah well… that was a blotch on what was otherwise a fine game. Can’t wait fr other games like it; because the style has so much appeal and potential to tap into.

Yeah, I’m definitely not the best at skill-based games, so Celeste had me using Assist Mode a lot. I saw some screens where I found I could do them normally, but if I die twenty times I’ll just put it on. It’s a good way to play God but purists’ll have my head. The levels are so well designed though. The music similarly, it’s so good that I’ve already covered four songs. So much fun to match the sound design.

On The Batman agreed on everything. I’m happy I went to see it in the best way I could; cinema, IMAX, no crowd. The film has a very strong auteur feel to it with all the camera angles, focus shots, and lighting choices, though it was done by the same guy that did Dune, and he took home an Oscar. Next year I won’t be surprised if he took it for Batman too.

@Snatcher Knowing it's Disney songs, I most likely will enjoy it. May watch it as soon as tonight, it caught mom's attention as she watched the Academy Awards. I usually don't watch the show though.

@Zuljaras You're welcome.

@Tyranexx While I'm into PC gaming, honestly, I never built my own PC. My first PC was custom built by a now closed local PC shop, and my current PC I ordered online. I have opened up the desktop PC and an old laptop, and changed parts in it, like swap in a new power supply in the old PC, or upgrade my hard drive in a laptop. That's about it.

@MarioLover92 I think I may watch Encanto tonight, it gotten mom's attention because of the Academy Awards, FWIW, I don't watch the awards, mostly because most of the movies they give awards aren't my thing. Though, still cool to see Luca, Raya, Encanto, and Mitchell's vs. the Machines get nominated.

I say DVD out of habit, yes I do get blu-rays. Usually the combo packs with DVD and digital, the only standalone blu-rays I have are Trolls and Smurfs: The Lost Village. Trolls I bought after getting a blu-ray player (had the DVD for years), Smurfs, I bought when I didn't have one because it came with a cool tin lunchbox that was a bonus. Still have standard DVDs of both. Also, I have a DVD player in my bedroom, while the blu-ray mostly stays in the living room.

@lolwhatno I wouldn't change the name, only because Nintendo Life has that "can only change name every 90 days policy." The April Fools name will stick for three months, it would be better to change it to what you like if you really do want to change it. Changing the avatar might be fun though.

Can someone help me to calculate the GB size of these PS4 games when being played on PS5?
I saw the number of minimum HDD size from these games and I assumed it will be added with some GB for free upgrade in PS5.

Crash Bandicoot NSane Trilogy = 30 GB + ??? GB

CTR = 17 GB + ??? GB

Crash Bandicoot 4 = 25 GB + ??? GB

Ratchet & Clank PS4 = 25 GB + ??? GB

Everlasting Dance Trax Boxing Eurobeat

@Anti-Matter Are you sure all those games are getting graphical upgrades for PS5? I could see CTR and the Crash NSane Trilogy not getting upgrades, and just get ported as is. Althouhg, I'll admit, I don't know much about games getting upgraded for PS5.

edit: I'm surprised playstion store website doesn't show game file sizes.

@Anti-Matter Ahh okay.. I might actually check it out, but got a lot of stuff I wanna play rn, aye. But glad to see DDR be on the Switchie AND WAIT. It's Japan exclusive!?

@Sunsy Ah nice! It's right around the corner actually Hmm.. next day? Ahh the movie is coming out the next day. Kinda like a nice late birthday gift from Sega, eh? I can't wait to stream it up.. just gotta draw me up a proper thumbnail still and budget sometime, especially with frickin Kirby, which is AMAZING.

@MarioLover92 Yea, so down and ready for it. The more ppl we get on board the better you know! Hopefully allowing us to have more buddies to play with in the future! It'd be cool if you guys were down with voice chat, then we could discord out!

@Tyranexx Bah, yea. Insert existential crisis. I'm pretty much the same with Kirby, played Superstar, 64, and Air Ride. I loved each of them, but those are the only ones I've really played much. Ohh man, the Forgotten Land is a frickin blast. I am having such a great time with it, and I only just beat the 2nd boss. I know you'll love it!

@WoomyNNyes Hmmm.. I remember seeing that. Too bad on the exclusivity :/ But..it looks like fun and I feel like it's great to have a Rocket League-like. I'm glad it looks like it has a bunch of customization which I do enjoy a lot And double thumbs up for DJ Molcar, let's goo!

@Sunsy Ah ok, we're kind of on the same boat when it comes to movies. Most big movies today don't really interest me a whole lot, and I'm somewhat picky when it comes to movies too. I like my movies to be more fun, if that makes sense. Which is why I enjoy stuff like comedies, adventure flicks, and Disney films. That's great to see that those movies got nominated.

Ah gotcha, that's understandable. I say "DVDs" quite often too, only because we have the most movies on DVD as opposed to blu-ray. Plus they were the first disc-based videos that I remember, they came out pretty much right after the VHS era.

@tekoii I actually made a few friends on Twitter who play Mario Kart, hopefully I'll be able to introduce them to you guys!

@Zuljaras Manhole covers are VERY TMNT, but you can't eat them. I'm also not biased towards pizza. At all. Nope. XD

@MarioLover92 Kid me used to call Tanooki Mario "Raccoon Mario" since I had no clue what a RL tanuki was. I just knew that it looked quite a bit like a raccoon with the tail. If I recall, the two animals aren't related at all lol.

On the "getting worse at games": Some of it could be reflexes, but I find being out of practice or very tired affects me the most. I admit I've never played MK8D online, but I imagine it's quite chaotic with all of those items flying around. I couldn't easily stomach over 150cc since I'd start getting ticked at some of the cheap items the CPU characters would hurl if I was in the lead.

@Sunsy I know enough about PC innards to tell someone what's what and how to swap out internal components, such as RAM, drives, etc. But nothing as intricate as physical motherboard maintenance or laptop screen replacement. An acquaintance contacted me to see if I knew how to do the latter recently, and I politely declined. Too, most laptops are so compact these days (with more and more things soldered to the boards in some models...ugh) that I wouldn't trust doing much with them besides switching out the battery if it can be accessed to begin with.

@tekoii I'm glad you're enjoying Kirby and the Forgotten Land! I've read a lot of great general feedback so far, though I'm staying out of the forum thread for now. I doubt there's much to spoil, but I prefer to experience some moments on my own lol. I just played Kirby's Dream Land on the 3DS VC and am currently about halfway through Kirby's Dream Land 2. The former is a solid platformer with some decent tunes and neat animations for the time, though the second game is definitely better.

I finally saw Encanto, and I absolutely loved it! Also, I have the music stuck in my head especially the song about Bruno. I loved it, the characters, the animation, the magic. It was amazing. Definitely a Blu-Ray/DVD I'm going to have to pick up.
@Snatcher @MarioLover92 @TheJGG (tagging you since I remember you mentioning it too)

@lolwhatno You're welcome. If it could be changed anytime, I could see it working, I have a feeling they limit the change to every 90 days to prevent abuse with it. That's only my guess.

@tekoii My birthday is on April 7th, and Sonic Movie 2 comes out the next day on the 8th. May not go day one, depends on if my friend is available, but will see it shortly after. I noticed you were playing Kirby the other day, I was chilling and playing Paladins when you were playing.

@MarioLover92 Yeah, I mostly stuck with animated movies because I love cartoons and characters. While it's not a public award show, I tend to like the Annie awards more as they focus on animation specifically. I remember a lot of favorites I like get nominated for that. Yeah, most movies don't really interest me unless it's something I like, or have a feeling I'll like. Like animation, comedy, sci-fi, etc.

Also, I usually like going to the theater when it's a movie I want to see. Right now, I'm hoping to see Trolls 3 in a theater in late 2023, since we all know what happened when Trolls World Tour came out. Still rented it at home day of release, but man I wanted to see that movie badly on the big screen.

BTW, mom and I watched Encanto, tomorrow, we're gonna watch Jungle Cruise, Mom wants to see it. Having fun with Disney+, Mom even got hit with nostalgia as we found Mickey Mouse Club, the original from 1955 on it. Mom remembered it. I was surprised when I found the obscure Disney Channel show Adventures in Wonderland, I thought that was a rather old find, but mom proved me otherwise, lol.

Yeah, also it's funny how I call them VHS now, but use to just call them video tapes back when I was a kid.

@Tyranexx Tell me about it. My current computer is an Omen gaming laptop from mid-2019, and it amazes me how well made it is. Thankfully I can open it up and upgrade RAM and the hard drive and SSD if I wanted to, they advertised that. I love it, and it plays my games beautifully. Still runs as good as the day I got it. Was playing Smurfs Mission Vileaf earlier on it. I also still enjoy playing classic DOS games from GOG. I grew up as a Mac kid, so it's fun to play those games I missed out on as a kid.

@Sunsy Appreciate the thought, thank you. Encanto for me was a while ago, I saw it in cinemas in December, but it was a truly magical experience, something that reminded me of the older Disney films from the nineties. It’s one of the better Disney films of the last ten years for sure.

The music in particular came across extremely intelligent, well written, and catchy. We Don’t Talk About Bruno’s easily my favourite song because of the great dance routines, and the final part of the song where everyone’s melodies combine into this chaos fest. All of Me, I think the song was called, at the end, was also great. The other ones ranged between darn good and forgettable. I didn’t really like Isabela’s song…

Glad you liked it though. Now the real test… what else did you like… and dislike too?
