If we are talking about licensed games, I think the best one I can pull from memory, is toy story 3, it was actually a very solid game, with a good toybox to, its level design was actually pretty good, and was able to re create the movie scenes well.

@Tyranexx That's the scenario my old copy of Gold is in, I can still play it, but the save file deletes once it's turned off.

@MarioLover92 Me too, especially since Coco Mountain stands out to me because of its style on N64 and DS. I'm very curious what the picks are going to be for the next pack of tracks.

@Fizza Phineas and Ferb on DS was great, IIRC, the online service included allowed preset chat and achievements via Disney's website. I remember picking up the first Phineas and Ferb game day of release too. Really a fun platformer. Over a year later, I got the sequel, Phineas and Ferb: Ride Again. It gave me an achievement for having played the first game using the same service, lol. Loved both games.

@Snatcher Toy Story 3 was also a great one, I remember renting it back when rental stores were still a thing. I also remember renting WALL-E on Wii and playing it on a night when it was suppose to snow, but didn't, and also rented the movie. Enjoyed the game enough that I bought the game.

Yeah, seeing a mobile game shut down is possibly why I wish more character games came to console and PC. So far, haven't spent a penny on in-game purchases in mobile games because of losing Trolls Pop, I don't feel confident these games stay. Only exceptions seem to be games where it's pay once, have it forever. Like the Sonic 1, CD, and Crazy Taxi mobile ports.

I play Paladins and Apex, and they have been around for years as free to play games, they haven't gone offline for good, hence why I bought some skins in both. Trolls Pop on the other hand, only lasted a year when Trolls World Tour was still new. While it did have microtransactions, I remember Trolls Pop was generous with its rewards, I could play it without worry of hitting a limit. Do this more mobile games.

@Sunsy Wow, thats just how I ended up buying the game, played a wile I didn't rent it, I only had 2 hours with the game, I love it and bought it LOL.

And people wonder why mobile games get a bad rep, because of stuff like this, remember when we used to get actual good mobile games? sure they had micro, but even today some of those game are playable, my singing monsters, angry bird (Before they got greedy, really sad to see the path they when't) the mobile ports.

It was just before, people actually wanted to make a game, but on a mobile device, well, they sure did ruin that whole phase.

@Snatcher Yeah, I miss rentals, it was a good way to try a game out before buying it.

Yeah, I still remember flip phone games. I had Need for Speed Undercover on an old flip phone. Yeah it advertised the console and PC version, but it was still a fun game to play. Even had a Cars based game that played similar to Outrun. I remember flip phone games were similar to regular retail games, pay once and have it forever.

Actually, I got Angry Birds on 3DS, skipped the mobile version, lol.

I'll say, I still can't figure out why some games are online only. Trolls Pop required an Internet connection for a single player puzzle game. At least it was fair with rewards. Not once did I ever feel in a place where I had to spend money.

As for Paladins and Apex, I bought a skin for Evie and Skye in Paladins, and the Lifeline Edition of Apex (twice, once on PC and once on Switch). Bought those after a year of playing because I like the games, and both games are still around. Mobile games, I'm more worried I might not be able to play my favorite in a year from now.

@Sunsy If I recall, it can be resolved by swapping out the battery, but that involves opening up the cartridge. I'm not quite confident enough to do that without at least some supervision from someone more experienced lol.

Chit Chat thread people<3 Regarding the thread link above: When I see people join NL just to compliment a brand new, or uknown game dev like this, it looks like planted adverts. I can understand friends, associates of a game developer giving encouragement, but in a community that has that has kept adverts out, my pessimism grows when new, unknown users join to create buzz. It looks like fake reviews on amazon.

God knows I have deep respect for game developers. Should I be more patient or forgiving of this kind of thing in the NL forum? Antdickens usually puts things in a better context and puts me at ease. I trust Ant. I didn't want to bother him with this, though. Forgive me if I'm being too cynical. Am I being too cynical?

@WoomyNNYes Definitely seems a little sketchy to me. Good thing is, it's in a specific section so you can just always avoid that section.

@Sunsy I had Toy Story 3...

DS.

I mean it was cool and it was 3D but there was no Toy Box and to this day I still have that longing feeling of what could have been.

For some reason, I had almost no good DS games. I had mostly shovelware/licensed garbage. Mario Kart? Ha! Mario 64? What's that? New SMB? Nope. The 3 good games I had were Kirby Super Star, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, and Sonic Rush. Jeez.

You could share your opinion in that thread. Let the devs and their peeps know this kind of actions have a negative effect on forums like this- respectfully of course.

I'm sure most of the time it's just people close to the project/dev trying to show their support, but I do believe they should make their connection a bit more clear. Most of the time they stay as anonymous one-time-use accounts... And that doesn't do the dev any favors.

@Eel I shared a variation of my above comment in the neko ghost thread, and ant removed it. I feel like I did something bad now, and regret saying anything. I guess I'm ignoring game developers in the future. It's a different dynamic. I think it may be rare that it works.

@WoomyNNYes I don't know if it was there when you commented before but the creator of that thread has a tick next to their name to show they're a verified developer.

Edit: Oh I see, you might have been referring to the person who replied to the thread. Their post was removed for being off-topic apparently so I don't know what they said.

I really need to start being more active on here lol. I hop back in like every two months and give updates and then lurk for a while normally, but hopefully I'll be on here more again soon. I just recently started streaming and when you do that along with working a job, attending college, and playing sports, it can get kinda hectic. Luckily I just quit my job to free up some time to do the other things I enjoy doing! I hope everyone else is doing good as well, I sadly haven't been able to keep up with all the stuff here so I have no clue what's been going on.

On the video game side I've mostly been playing Mario Kart in the free time that I do have. I've also been slowly playing through EarthBound on stream and it's as good as always. Still one of my favorite games ever. Pretty excited to stay up late tonight playing Kirby (hopefully Walmart will still have some copies...). But yeah, hopefully I'll be more active on here, seems like I sure did miss a lot in the last few months I've been less active

@Dogorilla Yeah, they had they developer check mark when they created the thread. The first comment was a brand new NL user that made an account to compliment the OP - likely a friend of the developer, which looks suspicious. And since they removed that comment, my comment calling attention to it was no longer needed. I guess I should have trusted that using the report button was enough. Since this sort of thing isn't addressed in the community rules, I wasn't sure reporting would do anything.

@Eel Do you think we need rules for developers outlined in the Community Rules? This isn't the first time a game dev has had friends join NL to create positive buzz on their thread - which looks suspicious. Does NL already has rules for game devs, and they just aren't following them?

Never saw the 'friend's' post, @WoomyNNYes .... It's tricky coming up with hard & fast rules for everything, so it's probably just not quite covered in them, since most of the forum simply doesn't allow any advertising posts at all!

@WoomyNNYes I’d like to believe you’ve already set the wheels in motion for that. Do feel free to use the contact form to ask for a reply and make suggestions directly to Ant, I’m sure he appreciates the feedback.

That whole dev forum thing is pretty new after all.

@Tyranexx Yeah, Flying Squirrel Mario is pretty fun to use. You could get some really nice distance while you're gliding. Though, I think my favorite power-up with flight capabilities is the Tanooki Suit from Super Mario Bros. 3. I like the Cape Feather as well, but it's kind of overpowered. You could literally fly over entire levels with it.

@Sunsy Me too! I'm already wanting more tracks, lol - though I certainly understand that it takes time. If I had to guess, we'd get the next batch of courses next summer, with the first three waves for this year, and last three for the next.

@WoomyNNYes I actually am avoiding articles, videos, and the NL thread about it. I plan on playing through Kirby and the Forgotten Land sooner or later. If it's a brand-new game that I'm really looking forward to, I'd rather play it for myself.

@MarioLover92 The Tanooki Suit is pretty fun; it's one of my favorite power-ups, especially in Super Mario 3D Land. The Cape Feather was deliciously overpowered in Super Mario World. XD I remember when the controls fully clicked; I kept replaying Donut Plains 1 over and over again just to explore every inch of it lol.
