@Tyranexx Yeah it might have had a longer print run in the UK. Was the Professor Layton series very popular in the US? Over here it was huge in the DS era. The British setting and characters probably helped (although did you know Layton's voice actor is actually American?) but I think the main reason is that it's that rare game that appeals equally to core gamers (or at least fans of adventure games and visual novels) and people who bought a DS just for Brain Training.

The first time I played Professor Layton (although I'd heard of it and was interested in it before) was when Lost Future had just launched. I was in London and stumbled upon a Layton-themed bus parked in the street that you could go inside and play a few puzzles on some DS systems they had set up. After that I remember dragging my mum and grandma around the shops until we found somewhere selling Curious Village (I was only a child but I was already a stickler for playing game series in the right order)!

Oh yeah, I forgot that bonus stuff in The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is time-limited. That's annoying, although at least it will be (or 'may be', according to the eShop listing) available to buy as DLC in the future IIRC. I'm still debating whether to import a physical copy or just download it. I'll wait and see if it gets a discount or eShop sale before the bonus content period ends. Probably not but you never know.

Come on Nintendo, give us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Switch Online

Say @ThanosReXXX care to tell me about your Pikmin 3 Deluxe Demo experience? Since that’s one of the games on my watch list for the time being.

For some random reason, I've been buying Playmobil character blindbags.

Now I have the weirdest superhero team.

Blindbags was kinda like Gatcha, right ?
Totally random items.

@Anti-Matter effectively, yeah. However it’s not as shady, given you get a physical object you can trade or sell.

Yeah, it’s one random figurine from the ones on the front of the bag. Though I do know there’s people who sell the specific figurines online. As with everything.

Thankfully as you can see, I didn’t get any repeats, though with a collection this small, I’d say that’s normal.

@Tyranexx I’ll need to state first that I’ll be on holiday starting tomorrow. I’m bringing my computer though, so I’ll be able to get some work done. So I’ll probably take my time to get my next reply in, but it’s not an absence per se. I hope I’ll be able to do the following three things; get better at golf, keep up my exercise, and enjoy a wide range of food!

I do hope to keep up my exercise, which has been fairly consistent over the last seven days. Been to the gym twice, swam twice and didn’t eat much meat. I’m no exercise nut either but finding motivation is so important. Making it happen before something in your day should make it worthwhile; like, ā€œI’ll do an hour of exercise before 10amā€ for example. I’m usually finished with my exercise by 9am, I’m an early riser anyways. As for overworking yourself I had a small leg cramp for a day or two the other day. Shame but it’s subsided thankfully.

By the power invested in me by the bandwidth of my house you are officially pardoned. I’ve met enough people that got into petty arguments over pronunciation, I remember having a ā€œrowā€ with someone over how the word ā€œUbisoftā€ is pronounced. I’ll let you guess which one I stuck with. The liquorice description reminds me of an energy bar I had after swimming this afternoon, though I’ll refrain from describing the taste, not due to language but because it’s not pleasing for the eyes when reading.

I can’t remember the last time I had anything other than dark chocolate. I visited a chocolate museum in Belgium a few years ago and after reading the ingredient distribution in various types of chocolate I now see why. Dark chocolate’s mostly natural, with minimal cocoa butter, paste, milk and normal butter. White chocolate is the kind that I’d have once a year just to be diverse with my chocolate habits, but realise why I don’t eat it to begin with, it’s just way too sweet. Milk’s in the middle but health benefits are… less pronounced. I decided to have a Mars Bar the other day (after lunch on the gym/swim day) and it did taste alright. Not bad indeed.

There IS a bakery near the supermarket we frequent, which is a ten minute drive from where we live. They offer, as expected, Arabic-style cakes and pastries but they taste amazing. My favourite pastry’s got to be a light, airy sponge cake, or a tiramisu. My family joked that I like tiramisu because of the rum but I didn’t even notice it was there… I’m not an alcoholic I swear! But I hope I’ll be able to try some decent foods soon.

Neat Daft Punk reference there; Human After All is their third album. Kidding, of course, but I hope you enjoy that video when you get the time to explore it further. Same with various Daft Punk songs themselves, I went down a second rabbit hole myself. Story of my life nowadays, I’ve been able to juggle the viewing of so many incredible artistic achievements, and hopefully gave them all the recognition and appreciation they deserve.

Eh, I’m more or less the same. Need the right temperature and conditions to fully enjoy it. Usually I’d expose as much of my skin to the outside air when resting during swimming, to stay warm, but now I’m having to submerge myself in water that seemingly gets warmer and warmer despite the fact it’s a heated (or cooled) pool. Most people I’ve swam with is about nine, and it’ll be a miracle if I share a lane with anyone directly next to me. Luckily it’s closed to non-vaxxed people so at least I’ll feel that much safer.

Main reason I chose to save just before Koloktos was because I did it on button controls, and wanted to give it a go with motion controls without… y’know… going back through the entire damn game to do so. Funny I mention that actually, because after beating one of the most boring, chore-like bosses in the series; Tentalus, the game crashed and I had to do the whole fight again. First time any game has ever crashed on me on a Nintendo system, so it’s a shame it had to happen after Tentalus. I’m on the verge of Din’s Silent Realm at the time of writing, it’s going by way too quickly.

I haven’t played Paper’s Please or Return of the Obra Dinn but I looked up the latter and it looks super nice. Consider me interested, especially because it’s on Switch. I’ll see how I can fit that into the next six months of gaming.

Genuine question; have you ever played a game that’s just so powerful that it just changes how you see the world? I’m tearing up writing this because I’m listening to DDLC music via the in-game music player. The side story songs are just so good that they had the quality of evoking such strong emotion from me. Some other games that had powerful impacts were, off the top of my head; Death Stranding, Xenoblade, and Persona 5.

I suppose it speaks to me so well because the characters are very relatable. But as much as I’d want to discuss finer details I’d want your experience to be completely blind, because it’s the kind of game that’ll break your heart so hard, in a way that you’ll love it, weirdly enough. I’ll definitely have to beat it a few times for the entire collective whole to sink in but dear God… I’ve played too many games that come crashing into my top five or top ten all time games list, over the last year.

I’d recommend playing through the whole thing a good two or three times. There’d be times when I thought I’d grasp the idea but scrolled way too fast. I’d argue I’m in the same process where reading’s becoming a bit of a chore, though I’d say it’s because of my decreasing attention span, which is admittedly quite long in some cases. I can mindlessly do a virtual race for an hour and a half but can’t spend half an hour reading non-stop…

I could say I have the same dilemma in principle but my public speaking, conversation holding and awareness are alright, so to speak. I’ve done one or two speeches in my time, both to an audience of hundreds, one virtual and another in person. It went well enough both times so I’d love to give it another go. Hopefully your confidence improves as we return to a normal society.

I’m not sure what the correct thread to ask this is, so I’ll just ask here since it’s kind of an everything thread. Let me know if I should ask in a different thread.

I started playing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D a couple of days ago and I love it so far. I’m planning on playing other Zelda games. I have Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass, and I definitely will get BotW, so my question is: What Zelda games would be good to play as someone new to the series?

Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.

Eel

@BabyYoda71 They're generally all good starting points, except for the older games that might scare new players away, like the NES games. Though if you want to go "up", then start with the smaller top-down releases, like the DS games you already have.

@BabyYoda71 There’s no order, and there’s no game that’s specifically harder than the other honestly.

@BabyYoda71 I remember starting out with Link's Awakening DX on Game Boy Color, I would suggest that game. They did a remake on Switch, though I haven't played that version yet. The one I mention is on the 3DS virtual console.

@Anti-Matter I’m glad I’m not the only one on this site who actually enjoys Wii Music...

@BabyYoda71
I have unlocked the 10th Stage from Wii Music as i haven't get last year (i took hiatus from playing Wii Music last year).
I forgot to finish all Pitch Perfect levels to get Super Mario Bros theme, NES recorder and the 10th Stage.
And about my Mii Maestro conduct play style, i got the idea from Youtube after watching hillarious way to conduct orchestra in Mii Maestro.
I still have one more Custom Jam performance to be uploaded into Youtube.

@Themagusx1 Welcome! Hope you like NL! The article comment sections can get pretty volatile depending on the topic (and sometimes randomly), but the forums are usually pretty chill.

@MarioLover92 The irony is the two closest theme parks within reasonable driving distance to me (and one pushes it a little) are also in different states. The only one of any note in my own state is ironically farther away than the other two. Also a pain to get to since it involves going near a major city. I do recommend Disneyland and Disney California Adventure if you can get to them, at least just to say you've been to the original property. But Disney World, with all its parks and resorts, definitely has more to offer.

Ironically, I've been to Universal Studios in California; that was on the same trip as Disneyland. So it's been 15 years. XD

@Dogorilla TBH, I was only mildly aware of the Professor Layton titles when they started hitting shelves and didn't start picking them up until a few years ago. I had less income before that point (Had to be picky with what I did grab) and also didn't normally pay attention to series I wasn't familiar with. It started when I got Diabolical/Pandora's Box used, for free, from GameStop as part of a promotion they were running at the time; I knew by that point it was a quality game, better than most of the other offerings in that under-$10 case I could pick from lol. Not long after that, I found an excellent deal on Professor Layton and the Unwound Future; ~$15 USD brand new! It was on clearance at a chain store that is now extinct nationwide (KMart). The first three DS games are quite easy to find used, so I suspect they were decently popular and were in print longer here.

I didn't know Layton's VA was American! I did know Luke went through a voice change between the regions though. Not sure what I think of his PAL VA. On one hand, he sounds more like a kid. On the other, he's a bit nasally and annoying sometimes lol. Still, the VA work in all the Layton games I've played to date has been fairly decent.

I picked up a physical edition of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. I believe the extras in the physical edition are available via download code. I haven't cracked open the plastic yet to verify that it doesn't have an expiration date yet; I'd better get on that soon!

@Eel I have a great aunt who had a few Playmobil sets (and still might have them in storage for all I know). I loved digging out the different sets and playing with them! All the accessories were pretty detailed, better than some of the normal offerings for kids today IMO.

Also, Sauna Man? I vote for changing his name to Onsen Man!

@Tyranexx - Hey, great news on the work project. It’s always nice when your job can help you feel fulfilled on top of earning that check. Never sweat a reply to me. If it takes you days, or you just have to drop a conversation; I’m never going to be offended. I fully understand having divided time, and sometimes I’m just not in the right headspace to sit down and tap out a post or reply.

It’s hilarious that your sister ended up with the person who helped you through your Insanity calamity as a teacher, even funnier that he remembered it AND brought it up. My brother did make it to the restroom, but it was a real situation. Touch and go. When we finally got home, he had to speed shuffle into the house while physically holding his cheeks together. Good times!

@ogo79 - Oh man, I would destroy an entire gallon of that coconut cream pie ice cream. Love me some CCP. And ice cream. It’s a natural fit for me. I just took down a pint of Haagen Dazs pineapple coconut last weekend. That’s interesting about the molds, I’ve recognized certain parts from some of the figures you’ve posted as originally belonging to a different figure. I know the manufacturer’s also did this. Pretty sure that Dethlor MOTU figure is wearing a color variation of another figure’s belt, but I can’t place it.

@Tyranexx that’s his name in the original dub, the localization team changed it to avoid culture shock.

I have to admit I never ever owned anything playmobil-related before these three figurines. I think my brother has an airplane set he keeps in his desk though!

@BabyYoda71 A bit late but Ocarina’s a decent starting point. If you loved Ocarina to the point of addiction I’d say go for Majora’s Mask next since it has the same core gameplay with a few new additions. I haven’t played A Link Between Worlds but I’d say that’s one you could tackle next as well.

Breath of the Wild is the anti-Zelda game though. So if you loved Ocarina and went to BotW expecting more of the same you’d be disappointed. So perhaps go through three or four Zelda games before you attack that one.

Plus your Twilight Princess’ and your Skyward Swords…. damn good games in their own right.
