@BloodNinja I like the boiling pot analogy; one I use is a soda bottle or can that's shaken to the point where, if the pressure is released in some way, it fizzes over and gets everywhere. "Mara", huh? I'll have to look into that. It's interesting what one can discover from the teachings of other religions.

@bimmy-lee A delicious idea, I'd say. I love watermelon! I think it's really cool that everyone pitched in to help with the paint job! A nice family project that everyone can claim at least some credit to. There's something special about improving the look of something with your own hands. Even if some of that is an innocent bit of vandalism from Bim Jr.

I've been well, dealing with the classic heat + humidity for this time of year - just died mowed my lawn yesterday evening - but it still beats the heat wave in the western parts of the US and CA. Vines of any sort aren't fun, doubly so in my case since I'm allergic to some of the itchier varieties. I hope you aren't, and I wish you luck on your vine purge!

@ThanosReXXX Heh, IMAX theaters are cool for the occasional short viewing, but I can't imagine watching a full-on movie in one; in my experience, typically some sort of documentary or short film is aired. I'd probably get eyestrain after half an hour....

Oh boy; I was a complete zombie after the "I'm on a trip!" high wore off. A school-sponsored trip to Washington, D.C., actually. Part of the problem was because the bus left the school at around midnight so that we would be on time for an early morning flight from an airport two hours away. I tried sleeping before going and on the bus but couldn't. What made it worse was the chaperones had to change plans on the fly. originally our group was to be split in two; one of our flights was direct, while the other group had a brief layover elsewhere before joining us. The second flight for group 2 was canceled, but they managed to move most of the students to the direct flight. A couple of students and the rest of the chaperones ended up in Chicago's O'Hare airport for several hours while they waited on another flight. Most of the students who went were well-behaved, otherwise I'm not sure how they would've managed it. XD

So after an uncomfortable bus ride, hectic airport shenanigans, a flight, and a ton of public transportation and group activities for that day, and I was beyond dead. The weird thing is I caught a "third wind" right before bedtime and STILL had issues sleeping. /shrug

@TheJGG I'm afraid I'll have to postpone the long post for a little longer; my day turned upside-down! Thank you for your patience.

People like looking for a scapegoat, something to blame an issue on. 99 times out of 100 however, the situation isn't nearly that simple. Something may very well contribute to a problem, be it violence in media, ease of access to dangerous materials, or even an unfortunate coincidence or bad day. But I believe these things are only symptoms and very rarely a cause. There's certainly one or multiple triggers somewhere, be it in an instant or over time.

I don't listen to modern pop or Top 40s music or anything like that, but I really enjoy many sub-genres across the rock and metal spectrums; I do usually avoid some sub-genres though, such as shock rock and death metal. I sometimes get into a bit of electronic music and am occasionally bitten by the EDM listening bug (Darn it Haddaway!). I'll listen to about anything in the right mood, though I avoid modern country music like the plague and can't stand opera. Weirdly enough, I don't mind some classical music. I still jokingly blame my mother for picking up Disney's Fantasia (the original; I've never seen the 2000 variant) as I'm sure that's where that stems from. Of course, we both know I enjoy a lot of video game music!

@Heavyarms55 The update is appreciated! I knew about the new position via Discord, but none of the details. I'm glad you found what seems to be a decent job, even if your hands are now tied by HIPAA (or the medical equivalent if there is one).

Been thinking of you and yours and hope you're surviving all that heat! It's been blah here, but not nearly to that level.

Heavyarms55 wrote:

And I only want to murder about 3 other drivers on an average commute, so it could be worse.

This is precisely one of the reasons why I play video games. They help ward off the misanthropy. Pretty sure we've discussed the topic before, but I mostly agree with you on driving in general and the burden privileges of owning a license.

@Tyranexx Yeah, I do believe it's a certain sect of Hinduism that believes that Mara (anger) is an "old friend." It might have something to do with finding ways to detach from it, instead of taking ownership of the anger, perhaps as a form of distancing oneself from it? I could be getting that wrong, I'm not Hindu, it's just something I read in a religion book ages ago!

@MarioLover92 Thanks! It would be nice though, if I could see some proof that I'm not the only person who actually had to pass a test for his license... That's the main part of the danger I was referring to.

@bimmy-lee Thanks! You're absolutely one of the people I was talking about, always with the kind words!

@Tyranexx Oh I'm sorry. I thought I had mentioned the details while we were chatting. But yeah. Oh and games have always been a form of escape for me and a way to vent too. But I'm already leaving for work at 4:15 in the morning. I'm not waking up even early so I have time to take a break and play some before going into the building. XD

Oh and did you reply to me twice? Or is NL just being weird?

@bimmy-lee I feel you. There's so much I wish I could do on my free time but alas. It's a shame but I guess we can do nothing but do the best we can balancing both sides of our lives. I'm hoping to start reading the book again this winter since I started it in spring but didn't get too far.

@ogo79 Texas, huh? Must be hot over there right now, I suppose? I originally come from a pretty hot locale myself, namely this little place in California. I’ve been reading a long time, I found NL on a google search looking for a review of some WiiWare game, and I remember some people talking on the site about how the name had changed. When I started really looking at comments, regulars like you and Thanos and others started standing out. I probably chuckled at dozens of your comments before I ever thought to make an account.

you know whats funny?
ive had people ask me to join their forums by reading me on others forums lol.
ive had at least 2 people tell me they lol at a text or comment and accidentally spit kool aid all over their keyboard or computer.
all i could tell those guys was "sorry, i get that a lot"
i guess im an ok dude.
and you did a great job with that table!
im down for meeting up with folks on here.
i can go anywhere.
i tried to plan this years ago actually.
first we need to get some folks on here that are down to do a tinychat web chat. i know 2 old school NL folks that would do it, we always did.

@Vortexeo Don't forget "Weaker Melia", "Highlyirritating Napon" and "Stoic Dunbon". I swear this, I'll find a way to put those stupid names in my story. I read a massive BotW novel once, and I remember the author wrote a line of dialogue that said "Link was the chosen hero but for some reason some people mistook him for Zelda,". Classic.

@ThanosReXXX I forgot to mention, you must have been absolutely livid that the Netherlands got knocked out at the Last 16! Me on the other hand... I'm extremely happy that England's made it to the final despite everything thrown their way. I wouldn't say I'm a football megafan but I'll certainly tune in during major tournaments like the World Cup and the Euros. And I'm capable of getting in the mood as well, before long I was shouting and cursing like anyone else!

@Tyranexx No problem, sorry to hear about your day! Hopefully you managed to find some quality downtime in the end.

I actually managed to finish the documentary and I was just sat there with complete and utter shock written onto my face. It felt like such an eye opening experience, even though some of these things I claimed to know before I saw it. But it's almost like a Vsauce video in that it's not about a topic, but rather a string of multiple weaved into an engrossing narrative.

To think that the difference between having three locks on your door in the US, and leaving your home unlocked in Canada, is a single river, is shocking. The final part of the docu was when Michael Moore interviewed Charlton Heston, actor and president of the NRA at the time. He was so dismissive of questions and eventually walked out of the room. He was asked to look at the picture of a six year old girl, who's death prompted the NRA to hold a pro-arm rally, and refused. That's just poor...

But there's never one "trigger" ironically, there's always many.

Rock's a decent genre, or rather, the presence of an electric guitar. I'd rather take rock over pop or... hip-hop or any of those mindless trap-beat one hit wonders, because with rock you can feel the soul in the music, in everything. With the ones I listed, only the vocals tend to have any semblance of emotion and even then it sounds quite boring... I don't like country like you, and I absolutely love classical! One of my favourites is the entire Nutcracker suite, it just carries such a depth of emotion that putting into words needs serious thought. It's so beautiful.

@Heavyarms55 All of that's great to hear, I hope you manage to find some quality stability now you've managed to complete the move. Best wishes!

I was at work talking to my coworker and I mentioned Danganronpa. (We we’re talking about upcoming games we wanted) All of a sudden this new girl who’s been working there for only a couple days walks over and asks if I said Danganronpa. Turns out she’s a huge fan of the series and is even going to a convention cosplaying as Kyoko Kirigiri tomorrow.

I just wanted to share this cause I thought it was pretty neat.

sweet and sour chicken with pineapple is one of my favorite dishes, and i may be eating that tonight again with fried rice and eggs rolls.
there was/is a thing called "sweet and sour delight" that consists of sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour shrimp and sweet and sour pork, all mixed in, topped with sweet and sour sauce with pineapple and cherries on top.
best ever.

@Heavyarms55 You're very welcome.

@bimmy-lee Well, credit where credit's due. I wouldn't be able to make or paint such a table, even if I tried, so yeah...

But, erm... exploding ms. Pac-Man? Was that ever a thing in the game, or are you that sadistic?

As for the English soccer team: don't get me wrong, I know and understand all about their sentiment and what it would mean to them to win this tournament. One fun fact is that this year is the first time in 55 (FIFTY-FIVE!!!) years that they were able to beat the Germans in such an international event, so it IS a big deal for them, but besides the origins of the game being British, which is what adds to the whole reason for the "football coming home" sentiment, the same obviously goes for every other country that competes.

They ALL wish to win the tournament, obviously. After all: who wouldn't want to be crowned European Champion for the next 4 years? So, in that regard, I understand all of them, and if they deserve it, even if it's not my favorite or preferred team, then I'm okay with it, regardless, because if anything, I'm a fair player, and if you're actually better than me, well... then the better team won, simple as that.

But honestly, tell me: how would you feel if your preferred team lost because of an own goal and a VERY cheaply granted penalty kick? No real sports fan would be okay with that, because that's not a decent representation of the actual match, which was actually pretty tough for the English, and it was most definitely not their best performance, and that's putting it mildly...

@Tyranexx Ha! I know all about that third wind, so I completely recognize that, subsequently lying in bed counting dots on the ceiling, hoping I'll FINALLY fall asleep at some point.

On a side note: when you mentioned being a total zombie, the first thing that actually came to mind is that you could then have gone straight to your hobby job of scaring the crap out of people. All you needed was a little touch up in the zombie make up department...

ogo79 wrote:

Errr... I... I have no idea about any of that. Nothing to see here, move along, folks! And get that pitchfork out of my sight, will ya?

As for pineapple on pizza: it's not like I eat it a lot, I don't even eat pizza a lot in general, but I do like the variation at times, and I can also understand it's not to everyone's liking, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I kinda like it. A lot, actually. But mind you: not pizza Hawaii with ham, but with salami/bologna, because ham is too basic/neutral of a taste, whereas the sweet and spicy combo of pineapple with Italian sausage is simply great, in my opinion.

Fruits always go well with spicy or hearty things, by the way, much like Anti already illustrated. At least the Asians know how to appreciate that. The sweetness of the fruit also mitigates/partially neutralizes the sting of the spiciness, so it's both a taste thing and a means of making the food more acceptable to the human palate, in case you're not the biggest fan of purely spicy food.

P.S.

Salt on melon? And you damn me for putting pineapple on pizza? Tssk, tssk...

@TheJGG Well, I'm hoping it's actually going to BE a good match, because no offense, but safe for one match, the Brits have been total and utter dross so far, and if you had asked me before the tournament started, I would never have guessed that they would end up in the finals. But it is what it is, so I'm hoping both teams will do their utmost to make it entertaining enough for the neutral viewers as well.

As for the Dutch: I was more livid with the team itself, because like the English, they too played like crap, so they were quite rightfully booted out of the tournament. As I already mentioned to bimmy in the first part of this wall, I always keep a fair and honest view of proceedings, so if teams deserve to lose, then I'm more than capable of accepting that.

I’m going to split this response into 2 posts, again.

I hope everyone is doing well.

@Snatcher
I’ve not worried about changing my profile pic. I’m just concerned that if I announce that if I announced that I changed my profile pic for a game that very few people would be interested in, that I might some interesting responses, if you get what I mean.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot that Risk of Rain even existed, TBH. From what I remember, I believe the user that was asking Nintendo Life to write the Risk of Rain articles was being really aggressive/demanding about it, so I’ve always thought that Nintendo Life purposely didn’t write those articles because of how demanding that user was being with it, but that’s probably not the reason at all, just my guess. I’m not even sure if that user is even on here anymore.

@ThanosReXXX
Yes, I did mean amusing. Usually I do a good job of catching errors like that, but I typed it on my phone, so I'm more likely to not catch the errors on my phone, since it’s harder to see a long message on a phone than a PC.

To answer your previous post to me regarding asking Eel about the site rules: I feel like Eel is pretty busy as is, so I try not to summon him unless it’s something really important.

@MarioLover92
Yeah, I believe Disney used their “Vault” when they re-released their older movies. Now that Disney+ has been available for a while now, it seems like the “Vault” is starting to come to an end.

Yeah, I tend to enjoy sports games that have more than one sport to them, like Mario & Sonic. I didn’t realize you liked Mario & Sonic so much. I also like Mario & Sonic a lot as well. As odd as it may sound, Mario & Sonic is actually a “dream franchise” of mine, if that makes sense.

I’m glad that you’re still enjoying Ninjala a year later. We seem to be the early adaptors of Ninjala here on Nintendo Life, but there seems to be more people slowly getting into Ninjala on here. I’m probably going to get the Ninjala Pass Mini as well, but we’ll see.
