@Heavyarms55 Japanese, imo is probably one of the, if not the, the least translatable languages out there.

Nope, Latin is. 😉

Just Kidding, but when you put English to Latin to English with Google Translate, it’s totally different.

For example, I put in “Hello. I am BabyYoshi12 and I like chocolate chip cookies and chicken.” It came out as “Good afternoon. I'm 12 and I like chocolate chip cookies and Yoshi chicken.”

@NEStalgia As someone who speaks Japanese on a daily basis, I only partially agree. Yes, there is a lot of inference in Japanese but it's also got very map-able rules. It's less inference than context heavy. There's plenty that's easy to understand and translate in-context but the moment you cut that context away and leave the sentence on it's own, it becomes nearly impossible to translate - and even a native speaker would be unsure of what was being said. The most obvious example is that in Japanese you can drop the subject. Where, in English and many other languages, we would switch to pro-nouns like "he, she, them, us, you, etc", in Japanese, once the subject is established, you can drop it. For example

"This is Joseph. He teaches ESL classes in a jr. high school. He is 28 years old. He eats too much pasta."

In Japanese, this description would be: こちらはジョセフです。(彼は)中学校で英語を教えます。(彼は)28歳です。(彼は)パスターを食べすぎます。The "He" is in parenthesis because it would be unnatural and abnormal to keep saying it. You led with "This is Joseph." so it is already established who you are talking about and native speakers would not use the pronoun. But if you were to just say "28歳です" out of context - which means "28 years old" it has no indication of who is 28 years old, the speaker, or someone else.

On your points about unemployment - I absolutely agree. If there was demand for so many people to maintain the automated machines - people would not use those machines in the first place. Having worked in an auto-factory before, I can personally attest to witnessing that transition. I myself did not manufacture anything. My job was simply to watch the machine to make sure reality matched what the computer said was happening and to stop the machine and pull off any defective parts from the line. My job almost certainly no longer exists now. And that was not even 10 years ago.

There will always be some demand for humans in the service industry I think, but the vast majority of nearly all else will be automation. Sci-fi stories like The Expanse touch on this, describing a world where the vast majority of the population lives on what is termed "basic support" because there is just no need or demand for a large labor force any longer - but nothing had been done to stem population growth. Only the exceptionally talented or ambitious held jobs while most people just subsisted in "okay" living conditions with nothing more to do than consume media.

Frankly I don't see much alternative that isn't horrific.
1. A war that destroys most infrastructure and sets everything back considerably - even this is only a temporary delay.
2. Government mandated and enforced population control - that would honestly probably require a powerful and intensely authoritarian regime because I don't see society ever willingly agreeing to that.

@Dark_Magician I say it's good, I didn't bother to buy it. I saw gameplay on you tube. I know it has some good gameplay. But it is a bit like older Mario bros games.

It’s harder though, @Dark_Magician. 😉

Oh ok @BabyYoshi12 @Ninfan So out of Super Smash Bros Ultimate dlc, Animal Crossing, and Super Mario Bros U. Deluxe, which one should I get? Thanks!

@BruceCM I was actually making decent progress on Xenoblade Chronicles while I was on furlough early last month, but that only lasted a couple of weeks. XD I'm now back to work full-time, plus some activities have resumed in my state. This week shouldn't be too bad, but last week and the one before that....Why am I an adult again? X_X

I'll grab Origami King eventually. Despite its flaws, ESPECIALLY with the battle system, I did enjoy my time with Color Splash. Same with the superior Super Paper Mario. I haven't played the earlier PM games yet, but do plan to. I'm even mildly curious about Sticker Star and might pick that up if I find it in a bargain bin somewhere.

@MarioLover92 I admittedly still haven't rewatched the Treehouse livestream. XD Hopefully when I have some evening downtime this week. You've hit on why I want to rewatch it; I want to fully grasp how the battle system will work.

@Heavyarms55 Oh yes, I know the basic gist of how cars became king of transportation. While I'm not against them and bear no ill towards those who have one, I also dislike the necessity of them. I think there's a lot to be said about the benefits of public transportation, though it isn't something I'm too used to using outside of the occasional trip. I think the biggest problem for me would be if I were packed in with many other people at once; I highly dislike crowds and people invading my space. Even if there's some sort of separation, like a bar or seat, I'm generally okay. Not to mention...Well, I'm not a germaphobe per se, but even before this pandemic, I was a hand-washer. Believe me when I say that's increased even more. XD

Agreed on all points with "legalized bribery". I feel like politicians should work to serve the people, not their own pockets. Not that I think they don't deserve to be paid for what they do, as I do believe many of them are truly in it to try to foster changes - but many of them are hamstrung in various ways by money changing hands.

Also generally agreed on the public/community matters here. I think a lot of the stigmas come from the minority of people who unlawfully take advantage of such systems. Such stories are publicized and add to the stigma, reinforcing peoples' thoughts on the matter. A lot of these things are underfunded. I can definitely speak on the public education; my own mother is a teacher and has paid for many things for her students out of her own pocket once she went over her spending allotment. Especially after her elementary school temporarily killed their art program.

Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)

@Dark_Magician I would still get that super Mario bros U deluxe. I don't mean to put your search for a game in a state, Telling you not to get it then to get it. It's like a 70% out of
100% score game. Where I would still get around to buying it.

@Dark_Magician I’d go New Horizons, because it’s just so good. They’re all good though... I wouldn’t go Smash, but that’s because I don’t generally like DLC.

@Dark_Magician
Animal Crossing New Horizons.
I have never played video games for straight 5 - 6 hours in a day.
In weekend i can play ACNH for 11 -12 hours by accumulate.
ACNH was the first time i played more gameplay hours than the other games.
ACNH was soooo addicting to continue the progress.
I have been playing ACNH for 120 hours just in 2 weeks. 😉

@BabyYoshi12
How is your ACNH island progress ?

Hm looking around Amazon, I found a premade PC that looks promising:

Dell Vostro 3471.

Says it has an Intel core I5-9400, 8gb of ram, and 1tb hd.

I checked and you can install a solid state drive, so I could get one and move the operative system there if I got this, I assume.

Any of you know about specs? How does this one sound?

@Tyranexx My solution for making politicians work for the voters, though not really "mine", would be simple - when running for office, all candidates who raise a sufficient number of signatures are allotted the same amount of funding for their campaign from a publicly funded pool of campaign money and only citizens, not corporations, lobbys or organizations of any sort, can pay into that pool. This would force politicians to run on their own merits, on an equal playing field. They would need to convince voters through their words and actions, not endless multi-million dollar corporate financed smear campaigns.

Of course there are cases of people abusing public/community systems. But there is no data supporting that being a significant amount. You can find anecdotal cases sure but that's all. Even the harshest critics I've seen fail to show any reliable data to support their slanders. One example I've been hearing a lot lately, with the pandemic - is that companies cannot get people to come back to work because some of them were technically making more money on unemployment - but they don't even have the anecdotal cases to support that - because if you're laid off, your company calls you back, and you refuse, you lose your unemployment in most states (not 100% sure if it works that way everywhere).

@Ninfan I work at a school in Japan. At least until my 5 year contract ends at the end of this month.

@Eel Depends what you want your PC for. For everyday use that should be perfectly fine. But for gaming you need to check what kind of graphics card it has - and I'd encourage 16GB of ram.

Well I would use it mostly for work and watching videos.

I of course would like some light gaming, since don’t really have any big demanding games on steam. The specs seem similar to what my “gaming” laptop already has, and that runs them fine.

Don’t know about the graphics card. Will try to find out.

Edit: it apparently uses integrated intel UHD graphics 630. Though I’m not sure if it’s exactly that on all models. So I guess it’s not too strong on that front.

@Eel For light gaming you should have no issues. Though I would still really encourage you to get a 16gb ram option if you can without spending too much more money. You might be surprised how quickly programs can devour ram these days.

Or you're just my roommate in university who constantly has 16 of his 32gb of ram used because he kept 30+ tabs open on his web browser...

Sounds like my dad. The other day he almost makes his computer implode because he got into scanning pictures and didn’t notice every new scan opened a new instance of the file explorer. I had to close a few hundred one by one at like 4fps, because each one had its own process in the task manager.

I won’t really be able to get a pc until I actually have somewhere to place it, so I have time to look around and decide.
