@NintendoByNature - Whoa, Sweet Baby Ray’s Hawaiian BBQ, amazing, I’ve never seen it. Love Sweet Baby Ray’s other sauces though. Yeah, I prefer charcoal, but it’s nice to have a gas option on hand for quick grilling. I have a tiny deck off my kitchen, and I’d like to have a gas grill there some day hooked up to a gas line. Those burgers sound amazing. I make mine similar with Panko crumbs, an egg, and all kinds of spices. It’s kind of like a charred meatloaf burger.
I was working on one off projects all weekend. My daughter’s new mattress and bed frame arrived a week early last Friday just as I was digging the caulk out of the tub to clean and re caulk. That started a chain reaction of assembling her bed, rearranging her room, dismantling my sons crib, moving my daughter’s toddler bed into his room, and also rearranging his room all while trying to get my clean and caulk job done in the bathroom so we could get our shower back. That took three straight days of effort while feeding all the new bedding to the washer and dryer. Typical dad stuff, you’re all too familiar I’m sure.
@ThanosReXXX haha in my defense, ive said it spelled a few ways. So i am letting myself off the hook on this one lol. @Bimmy-Lee yea it's a rare sauce barely visible. I only ever see a few bottles stocked at a time.
I just did the whole bunk bed and re-arranging thing about a month or two ago. It was grueling. So i feel for ya. I usually do the same though. I try to get as much done as i can to avoid having every weekend tied up.
@BruceCM it could very well be. But, I've been to some restaraunts that have it spelled kebobs too. I Just can't recall what type of restaurants they were. We have Greek, middle eastern, and American places that have them, and they probably all spell them differently. Greeks typically say souvlaki though, for the most part.
@NintendoByNature Ah, no can do, my friend. You can squirm all you want, but you're still firmly fixed to that hook.
@BruceCM The official spelling, and thus by extension also any kind of English language spelling, should be kebab. Sometimes, depending on the region, it can be seen as spelled as "kebap". But in Europe, and the country of origins, it's always only kebab. I firmly suspect that the whole "kabob" spelling comes from the word being pronounced by natives sounding almost the same, phonetically, to Americans, so they simply started to write it as such, but it is most definitely wrong.
Either way, it's always bab or bap at the end, not a guy named BOB. It's a foreign dish, with a foreign name, that CANNOT be randomly changed or butchered. There's obviously a reason for this, seeing as the word actually means something in its native language. Kebab is actually short for "Shish kebab". Shish is an old Turkish word for sword or skewer, and kebab is simply prepared (grilled or cooked) meat, so combined, it's simply "meat on a skewer".
Changing it by replacing random vowels would be pretty much the same as calling ribs robs or steak stook...
@ThanosReXXX Best of Chicago? Mad looking at those Peter Cetera vids - hard to believe this is the same band, and to add to that I doubt they would be able to release a track like this now...
Last night, I finally did it. I had a Popeyes chicken sandwich. It was REALLY GOOD.
Be yourself, no matter who you are!
For me, that's being madly in love with fictional characters. Plz don't judge.
Yes, my first anime was High School DxD. Don't ask or judge!

Meanwhile, I just had a nice plate of Nasi Goreng with a decent-sized omelette:
And now I'm kind of immediately wondering if and how my former fellow countrymen would butcher that spelling...

@WiltonRoots Yeah, it certainly is a bit different. Then again: back in those days, all kinds of bands tried their own version of "progressive" or otherwise they were simply going through their "angry at the world and protesting by way of making music" stage. Once they mellowed out, they all started to write more love songs...
@BruceCM Ah, yet another misunderstanding of the native dishes-disrespecting English speakers...
Kebab only ever means one thing, so whatever we or any other country has bastardized it into, has no relevance. But let me guess: döner kebab?
@ThanosReXXX Yep happens to a lot of groups, their first albums are generally their best, when they're still hungry and have a point to make, then there's the difficult second album, sometimes they find their feet after that or they make so much money and get made to tone down by the labels and publishers which causes them to lose their passion.
Yeah, along with 'shish kebabs' being chunks of meat with a pitta bread, @ThanosReXXX .... Fortunately, I had the proper versions with my parents on BBQs when I was young, so they told me about the origin Too many people won't know that & only be familiar with the usual takeaways.
As for the 'one hit wonders' or those like @WiltonRoots talks about, there's probably plenty of contributing factors. For instance, those 'pop' acts that, seemingly, got lucky early on don't seem to last as well as those that struggled for longer before getting the break. I'm sure there's exceptions but that often seems to be the case with many who don't last
In some cases, they might have been pushed into something they didn't really want to do & that's not likely to work for long, either But there certainly are plenty of bands/ singers, etc, who do keep going as well
@ThanosReXXX - I’ll wear a “Beer Bear” sign just to be safe. I know those other McClean songs, but only because I bought a greatest hits album in my youth. While he made other good songs, nothing but American Pie played/plays on the radio around here. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a different Don McClean song on the radio. I don’t know if he charted with other songs, but he’s kind of a well known example of a one hit wonder. To put it another way, if “One Hit Wonders” was a round on Family Feud in the 80s or 90s, Don McClean is definitely one of the answers, and Richard Dawson is definitely going to kiss all the moms and daughters. I certainly don’t mean “one hit wonder” as an insult. It’s incredible to have made a song that’s so iconic that one becomes famous the world over for making only that song.
@BruceCM - That’s the Don McClean tune I was referring to thanks. As I just mentioned to Thanos, I’m not sure he had any other “hits” on American radio, but he definitely has a nice library of music aside from American Pie.
I bought a pair of Cutetitos (surprise plush animals that come wrapped like a burrito). One for my niece, one for me. Because of course I would buy a plushie for myself.
Opening both at the same time was a mistake. Now my niece has two.
Well, that's definitely his biggest hit, @bimmy-lee .... There's definitely some others that were hits & he's had quite a few successful albums While he's still touring & performing, so he hasn't disappeared like some pop hits! Who remembers Tasmin Archer?
@BruceCM Well, the important, and/or simple thing to remember about ALL "kebobs", is that all of them are comprised of some kind of prepared meat. Döner simply means "little bread" or pancake, so that's simply a meat sandwich. You could say that it's the Turkish variant of the burger.
As for music and one hit wonders: you can never really put a finger on it. Sometimes, these songs are #1 hits worldwide, only for the artist to never be heard of again, and other times, they go through this kind of wave pattern, so to speak, coming back all mature and different, and maybe even less popular, but with more staying power.
@bimmy-lee If my information is correct, then Starry Night should also have been a pretty big hit, in most countries around the world, so it would be strange if it wouldn't have been that well-known in the US.
I do find it sad that Don apparently is really seen as a one hit wonder. I know you didn't mean that in a bad way, but when someone has written more than 10 songs that most if not all of us can sing along to, even if we don't even know who the heck the artist is, then something is definitely off concerning the collective memory of the good ol' US of A...
Fun fact: over here, one hit wonders are called a "one day fly", for obvious reasons...
Anyway, I wouldn't even be able to name a TRUE one hit wonder in the States. At least not one that is also known over here. Maybe some kind of country dude or gal...
I'll make a mental note of the beer bear sign for future reference. I wonder if I'd be allowed to import a selection of beer, or if that is forbidden nowadays. I might otherwise be tempted to take some specialties with me.
