@ThanosReXXX Nah, BOGO's neither hip nor happening. Probably more associated with the boomer generation if anything. It's a sign you'll see hanging in just about every retail store at some point or another. But I imagine it's probably more an American thing. We do love our acronyms for everything....
Though more recently (past decade) it's been modified as "BOGO 50% off!" Meaning buy one get another one half off. Or put more realistically "25% off evenly numbered quantities." And it's always get the second one "of equal or lesser value" - so it's never really 25% off total.
Technically video games are just a waste of time. An insanely fun waste of time.....but aren't most wastes of time?
@HobbitGamer Oh, stop it now, you. My 50 year old brain can only handle so much...
On a side note: glad she's doing better. Probably took a BIG load off of your mind.
I am now wondering how old/young she is, that she likes video games so much. Not that there needs to be an age limit to it, mind you. We even got a member on NLife who's over 70, but he predominantly plays mellow games, such as farm simulators and so on.
@NEStalgia That was just me being sarcastic. I never once seriously considered it to be hip and happening. You should have read that part of my comment in an old geezers' voice. Like that old fart in the Pixar movie Up...
But yeah, it probably IS an American thing. Over here, shops don't do acronyms/abbreviations. It may confuse the WAY too much down to Earth Dutch...
And of course, all video games are a waste of time, but you know what I meant. It was like how rock and roll was viewed in the 50's and 60's: either completely useless or the work of the devil.
And watching paint dry is also a waste of time, but I'd say it's highly debatable if it's fun...
(I'm glad you said "most" and not all, though)
'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'
@ThanosReXXX Yeah, American's pretty much latch onto any "catchy" sound that they hear, for some reason. You'd think it's just human nature, but it seems to happen here more than elsewhere on average. I'm convinced people would speak only in acronyms and abbreviations. if it were linguistically possible. Even our laws have entire committees designing cute acronyms to name them by.
Watching paint dry can be pretty good use of time if you plan on sitting on the painted spot in the near future.
@ThanosReXXX - I’m very curious to see how sports come back around the world. We have until September to get it ironed out. If the NFL doesn’t come back at that point, I might flip out and devolve into a skunk ape. I find it hard to believe there will be fans at the events, but I would love to be wrong about it because it’s weird to think about.
I haven’t worked since school was canceled in March, but my wife has been working from home since shortly after. Since I’m always with the kids, and we don’t have two vehicles out driving all over the place; many of our expenses have been reduced or disappeared entirely. I think the only expense that’s risen slightly is food and alcohol. I also spend marketing money out of pocket to make paychecks, and I haven’t had any of that (no paychecks either). It’s been eye opening to fully realize the amount of effort and expense it takes for me to work with two kids who always need to be accounted for.
@ThanosReXXX For real. One time I left a match because she kept running through Nuke Town and would stab me. That's right, I rage quit on my on mother! Hahaha.
She's doing much better, in spirits too. She really liked the team and exercises at physical therapy today. She'll be doing that 3 times a week for a month.
She's only 59 next month.

@NEStalgia The Dutch DO like their numbers, though. So, BOGO in Dutch is usually just represented as bright neon cards with the text "2 for 1" on it, or some variation to that extent. And the rest of those "interesting" acronyms that somehow do resonate with them, they just steal from the English and the Americans, such as YOLO, FOMO, and what not. As I've already told you once, this is basically becoming Little America anyways, what with all the Americana (such as holidays and festivities) we're adopting, especially in the big cities, so most Yanks feel right at home in Amsterdam, in my experience.
@bimmy-lee In the news today, it was mentioned that the German competition actually IS going to start already, in empty stadiums. The Dutch rules have been made a bit less strict as of today as well, and organized sports are scheduled to be starting again this July, so that's actually the normal period for most sports that have so-called summer recesses, because for football/soccer, the season starts in August, so if they're allowed to start a month earlier, then they can just resume their regular training schedule to be ready before that time.
And yeah, in times like these, you do indeed REALLY start to realize the cost of life. Normally, you just work, pay the bills, set some cash aside, and don't think about it all that much, but now that you almost have to weigh each penny, expenses are definitely under the microscope...
Oh, well. Here's hoping it's not going to last too much longer. I did already apply for benefits, because I'm not gonna last until September or whenever. Maybe I'll just apply for an employed position again, I don't know. Times are WAY too unsure to maintain this self-contracting business, that's one thing I do know for sure.
@HobbitGamer Rage quitting on your mom, huh? That must have been some interesting conversation afterwards...
I hope it wasn't right before dinner.
How has everyone been? Haven't been on the chat lately. Been pretty busy the last month or so doing a ton of yard work. As wierd as it sounds, animal crossing kinda inspired me to have a nice looking property. So I've been digging, planting, mulching etc. And I can finally say it looks really nice. Nice enough to post a photo. I just don't feel like going through the motions of uploading it 😂. Either way i hope everyone's well.
@NintendoByNature Same here, dood. My free time in daylight has been mostly consumed by the yard and garden. Just sprayed for weeds and bugs today. Nook would be devastated.

@HobbitGamer lol. I actually called a land scaper to do a weed n feed type service. Costs a bit, but im tired of weeds and crab grass. Nook would appointment me the town representative.
@NintendoByNature Animal Crossing inspired you? I'm now expecting your garden to have at least one waterfall...
As for "having to go through the motions of uploading it": that really isn't all that hard. Copy it to your PC, or send it straight from your phone to PostImage. After uploading, you'll get several links, and you''ll be needing the one that says "Direct Link", and you just paste that here, with the "img" command. Or without, just as a link...
@ThanosReXXX ooo thanks, might possibly post a couple tomorrow 😉. Unfortunately, no water falls yet. But......i do have some hyacinths planted lol. And I may or may not be looking into a mini bridge for my front lawn
Learned something today: @Eel confirmed that Pac-Man Tamagotchis exist.
@Heavyarms55 Definitely. Maybe I'm "old school" according to some of the kiddos today, but nothing beats a control scheme with true buttons in my book. Motion controls and touch controls are fine when they work, but I've always found buttons to be more accurate.
@ThanosReXXX Ah, good point. XD I'm sure you'll still be alive by the time I get one. As to the state of your mind...only you can answer that.
@HobbitGamer Your mom seriously sounds awesome. Both of my parents are close to her in age, but they don't game. Dad has never been into them in my memory, though I have found evidence that his extended paternal family passed around a mini Pac-Man arcade cabinet that he must've had access to at some point. Mom used to play the Wii somewhat and even got hooked on the Just Dance series for awhile for exercise reasons. She had several games and was a pretty devout player until her knee gave out while playing.
@NintendoByNature If a loan shark that looks like a raccoon or tanooki shows up, run inside, lock the doors, and threaten them with dogs and bankruptcy.
I need to redo some of my bulbs in my yard. That'll have to wait until this fall though. The daffodils did great this year, but the tulips are another story entirely....
@NintendoByNature I'm doing pretty good, staying healthy and all. Been playing plenty of New Horizons too. Just donated my second painting to the museum and I'm working on expanding my house too. Quite a bit to do and acquire in that game huh?
"Give yourself the gift of being joyfully you."
Favorite games: Super Mario 3D World, Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Playing: Hollow Knight
Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I'd like to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
@MarioLover92 yea its a real time sink. Almost if not more than smm2 and botw, which is saying alot. Considering botw is my favorite game on switch. I only did 1 upgrade to my house and am focused more on bridges and inclines.
@Tyranexx not only is it a thing, but it also has some interesting details about itself:
It's the first time Bandai Namco creates a special edition tamagotchi based on another one of their own IPs.
The first time a variant of this specific tamagotchi type is made specifically for western markets- it hasn't been released at all in Japan. Which is kinda odd!
Other nice touches include the addition of sound effects and music from the arcade game, and instead of poop piling up and your pet getting sick, it will instead get chased by the pacman ghosts throughout the day. (If you fail to shoo them away, the screen will start to glitch until the pet dies)
On the flip side, the cons include that this is not a fully featured virtual pet, since it's based on the smaller/simpler "Nano" tamagotchi, and as such, the screen is small and the buttons are tiny, and there's less options in general. (It's not the most dumbed down variant of tamagotchi though, that honor goes to the Mini/Chibi which is even smaller).
@NintendoByNature Yeah dood, she's doing well! Check a page back or so for the latest update. @MarioLover92 I haven't seen Redd in town since the first painting I bought. I mostly play at night; Does he show at certain times?

@NintendoByNature You're welcome, man. It's one of the best and most user-friendly picture upload sites out there. All of my albums are on there as well. Subscribing is free, so you can keep track of what you post, and/or add and edit your own albums.
So, about that garden:
Okay, no waterfalls. Kinda disappointed, but I can live with that. So, how about a museum, then?
@Tyranexx Well, according to the rules of AD&D, I'm a chaotic neutral. Make of that what you will.
