@Eel That's no blush, that's a pale spotlight, highlighting a face that shows a grudgingly accepting Titan wearing an Infinity Gauntlet forged into a crown. Should make him feel royal, but the loss of the gauntlet still bites...

@Eel I'll see your blushing Thanos, and I'll raise you pink elephants...
No, pink FLYING elephants, on unicycles, with pointy hats on, and waving little flags around with their trunks.

Wait... why does that sound familiar?

@ThanosReXXX That brought to mind the image of a drunk mime trying to do an impression act, and failing terribly....Probably means I need to head to bed. It's just past the stroke of midnight here.

@Tyranexx A mime? Just because I said that I don't usually make a lot of sound with things?
It's because I'm stealthy, not because I'm a mute French clown...

That was an early night for you, then. On weekends, I burn the midnight oil, and now, between what should have been a BIG party, and my anger-fueled stamina because of it not being possible (sic: Corona), I burned the midnight oil, and then some. Had an extra drink, ate some more snacks, watched a music concert from a Dutch artist, and then a pretty cool movie (Selfless with Ryan Reynolds), and by then, it was already becoming daylight again...

So, needless to say, I kinda slept a hole in the day, as they say over here. And I'm still recovering from the party, but other than that, I'm feeling reasonably good about my party for one...

@ThanosReXXX I'm stealthy until I accidentally run into something. Practice over time has made this a less likely occurrence, but I'm still accident-prone. XD

Sounds like a pretty good celebration, all things considered. I stay up a little late on weekends, though that depends on what's going on and how tired I am. I also had to get going a bit early for a Sunday, unfortunately. Needed to drop by the parental units for a bit.

@Tyranexx Ah, yes. Understandable, then. That's always an early visit. You just can't drop by the parents on an un-godly hour...

I made a simple dinner tonight after hauling two truck fulls of junk off yesterday.

Grilled cheese sandwiches and Spaghettios.

@ThanosReXXX I'd say it was worth it; I got to spoil a dog who thinks she's attention-deprived (spoiler: she's not), a few fluffy felines, and a few slobbering calves. If you've never dealt with tame bovines, slobber is VERY common. XD

@HobbitGamer I don't think I've had Spaghettios since I was a kid. Now I'm craving some.

@Tyranexx I get in a lot of walking thanks to Pokemon Go when there isn't a global pandemic going on. But beyond that I have the exercise discipline of a wet napkin...

I don't actively crave soda anymore. I just know that if I start drinking it again, I wont be able to do it in moderation, it's a very slippery slope for me because I know how much I love, I mean LOVE Coca-Cola. If it wasn't fattening and didn't rot teeth, I'd be drinking it constantly.

Crap, I’m looking for the system clock around here so I can turn it back and not miss a fellow Villager’s birthday.

@ThanosReXXX - Happy belated birthday purple Gorilla Grodd. I’m sorry I missed the opportunity to clink glasses on Saturday. Hope it was the best 50th birthday in quarantine you’ll ever have.

@Tyranexx I've been to plenty of cattle markets. It's kind of a tourist attraction over here, so if you're camping out somewhere, it's a place to visit. So yeah, I know all about slobbering calves...

And of course, there's also petting zoos over here. Goats, sheep, cows, you name it. Haves to educates them city slickers, right?

P.S.

Have you already managed to pry that kidnapped Wii from their grabby mitts?

@bimmy-lee Thanks. Let's just say that it was hopefully the only birthday that I'll have to celebrate in quarantine...

I honestly wouldn't have minded all that much if it would have been my 49th or 51st, but this was supposed to be a BIG party, with family and friends, so even at this moment, I'm still a bit ticked off.

@ThanosReXXX - No doubt, 50 is a big one, and I’m sure it would have been nice to spend it with friends and family. Another corona cheap shot. Maybe you can have a make up party some time when it’s safe to do so. It won’t be the same, but it would at least be an opportunity to belatedly observe your 50th as well as recognize any other family event or milestone that occurred during quarantine that deserves mention. We did a family Zoom with my in laws last night, and we talked about a big party in the future to celebrate all the events we missed during quarantine.

@bimmy-lee Yeah, we'll probably do something similar. Or at least: knowing my sister, she may well be up to something, because she wouldn't just let this pass by, but we'll see. If this goes on for much longer, I also won't have any more savings left, seeing as I'm all out of assignments, so I'm living off of my reserves right now.

On a side note: another weird milestone, and something that, contrary to my missed 50th birthday celebration, WILL go into history as a completely unique event, is that we just had the Dutch national 4th of May WW2 memorial service, which normally consists of thousands of people, all gathered together.

Now, it was a completely empty capital with the king and major turning up to install the floral wreaths and ribbons at the monument on the equally empty Dam Square in the city here. Definitely weird, and almost otherworldly.

And this year is the 75th year of that celebration, so the virus put a definite and rather crushing damper on that as well, especially when you consider that it may very well be the last year that some of the war veterans may be able to join, or be alive for that matter. So, in light of that, my missed demi-centennial party really isn't all that important.

The only thing people at home could do, and something that I also do every year, as a former soldier (albeit never in active duty, since I only served the obligatory 14 months), is stand to attention for two minutes, in remembrance of the fallen, when they ring the bells at the resistance memorial in the dunes, where lots of members of the Dutch underground were executed and buried.

@ThanosReXXX - Yeah, I’m sure that was quite weird. Was the service televised? As you mentioned, it’s especially sad that WWII veterans have limited opportunities left to take part in events like that. I hear you on the finances and wish you well. We’ve been fortunate in that my wife has been able to continue working from home at a reduced patient capacity. Her practice is making up the difference by working shifts at the hospital behind the scenes to help facilitate the frontline workers in the Covid unit. We’ve definitely felt the impact of me staying home with the kids, but it’s been blunted by a huge, quarantine related reduction in expenditures and a few lifestyle changes. Luckily, cheap beer tastes just about as good to me as expensive beer.

On a side note, you’ll probably be watching football in empty stadiums at some point in the relatively near future. That should be super weird. Rabid football fans are a huge part of the game and presentation.

I have an exterminator swinging by tomorrow. Normally I take bug control into my own hands, but I'm concerned that some of my latest guests may be carpenter ants. I've seen what a bad infestation looks like (not on my own property) and don't want any satellite colonies established in my house, thanks. The things aren't as destructive as termites, but left unchecked can still be pretty pricey to deal with down the line.

@Heavyarms55 Ironically, the reason I even started playing Pokemon Go was to give myself something to do while I'm out walking. I missed out on the buzz when it first launched thanks to owning a Windows Phone at the time (I really liked it overall, but that app support was severely lacking). Then, once I finally got an Android phone about two years ago, I completely forgot about downloading the game until early last year. XD

I don't exercise every single day - typically 4-5 days a week on average.

Agreed on the soda; if it weren't unhealthy and great at staining teeth (and worse), I'd definitely drink it more often. I joke and say that it's my "cheap" alcohol.

@ThanosReXXX Aren't those slobbering babies adorable? A little too lick-happy sometimes, and I've been headbutted more than once, but generally they're just being affectionate (and/or hungry). XD I'm assuming a cattle market is a place where they're actually sold? Plenty of places like that around here. We have petting zoos too, but they admittedly don't have as much of an impact if you grew up surrounded by a lot of that stuff already. Though sheep, goats, rabbits, and waterfowl were always a bit of a novelty for me as they were something my dad and grandmother have never owned.

I've tried redeeming that poor Wii, but unfortunately, both my sister and her boyfriend have taken to using it sometimes when he's over lately. My request was denied for now.

@bimmy-lee Yeah, it's always televised, so people that aren't able to attend for whatever reason, can still join in or watch the ceremonies. And at some point, even Dam Square, which is the center of Amsterdam, is full, so it can only fit so many people. The same goes for the resistance memorial in the dunes. Over there, it's around 3 to 4000 people on average, that normally attend. Now, it was just guard personnel, the trumpet blowers, and officiates.

As for football: well, they're currently just discussing playing without any supporters, so it's not a done deal yet, and it's also possible that they'll allow small groups in, spaced wider apart. Also weird, but still better than playing in a completely empty stadium. That'll probably just make it feel like it's only a training match or something...

On a side note: how the heck do you manage to spend LESS money, when you're at home all the time and working less? Or are you still a full-timer?

@Tyranexx But it IS your console, right? Or have I misunderstood that all along? Either way, if so, then let them pay for it. 40 bucks will get you another one, and they can then have that one, if they so strongly wish to hold on to it. Personally, if it WAS my console, then I couldn't care less what they wanted, and I'd just take it.

And yes, calves are cute. Then again: just about any young animal is. That's all by design, though. If they'd look horrible, nobody would want to take care of them...

But of course you're used to it, so it'll be every day happenings, or at least more often than over here, but that is also why I specifically mentioned it being for the tourists and city slickers, so they can familiarize themselves with these animals and their habits. And every zoo over here has a petting zoo with farm animals, so that besides looking at the dangerous and exotic animals, there's also always a place where you can actually touch some animals and be amongst them, without being stuck in a car...

As for being head-butted: I've only had those experiences with goats, not with cows. At least not with calves.
