@ThanosReXXX - Yeah, I’m a recent convert. After not “getting” the series since the beginning, I “got” it immediately after getting this game. I played the original a little bit on a roommate’s GC in college, and didn’t get it at all, but tastes change. You’re right about reviews and videos not always being able to transmit the real hook of a game, especially when it’s something unusual like ritual in AC. My main impression of the series over the years was that it’s an interior design/ inventory management sim. Which it is, but it’s a lot more than that. I’m looking forward to trying the social aspect of it as well. The thought of hanging out with people from this thread on their islands is incredibly funny to me.
@Anti-Matter - I love it dude, and putting your mind to something creative like that when your freaked out and scared is a good way to feel better. It’s safe to assume corona is in everyone’s home town. Probably anyone with an internet connection has a population big and mobile enough to be infected. For the hero group, you may want to consider a vaccine powered super hero as many believe they are the way you treat and prevent viral outbreaks. Another powerful hero could have herd immunity powers. Can’t wait to see it in color!
@HobbitGamet - Welcome to home. All the time. Things only just got weird for you. Glad you have your papupers. They’ll come in handy when you aren’t wandering around your house, looking out your windows and checking the fridge.
@bimmy-lee Don’t forget about fussing at the dogs. And chasing Jack off the keyboard. I was kicking it off by grilling burgers. Broke the handle of my Yoshi Blade on an onion. Only other I could find clean was my butcher knife, so that was a bit deranged.

@HobbitGamer - I should just hit the reply button for a while, seems I can’t trust my typing and proofing skills right now. Jack is way too big to be a keyboard cat! He’s going to break something if he doesn’t stay down. My dog had the hardest adjustment of all of us when schools closed. He nervously paced the house for two days making dissatisfied noises when the schedule changed and we were suddenly home all the time. He settled in eventually.
I have an AC question. I still don’t have the ladder, and it really seems like I should at this point. I’ve played every day since launch, am I simply missing it somewhere, somehow? My house will be expanded in the morning, maybe then? I really want to see my full island so I can gameplan for a few things, like my orchards and new arrivals. I’ve already invited an ostrich to come to my island.
@NintendoByNature - Dude, I caught an oarfish with my kids earlier. The shadow in the water was huge. I think it’s a rare fish or something. Looks great in the museum. I can’t wait to visit with you fellas. After two straight super late nights painting, I’m gonna be on for a while later tonight, so I’m down tonight or later this week.
@bimmy-lee yea they're really nice. I've just been selling everything i catch. I suppose i should start turning them into the museum when he's up and running. But im really trying to pay off my loan. I only have like 25k left or something like that. Ill be on tonight and see if I can visit your island. I made you and hobbit best friends so i think that means you guys can grab whatever you want from island.
@NintendoByNature - I’ll open my gates as soon as I’m on tonight. I tried to make you guys best friends, but it didn’t work. I think it told me I had to do multiplayer with you first. It’s raining on my island today, and the fish have all been unusual. Bring a fresh pole.
@bimmy-lee i did It from the home screen on my profile. But what does it mean "open the gates?" I've never tried to visit someone's island before. Oh and I crafted the better pole during lunch today so i should be ready to go.
I legit don't mind working from home. It's only me, an indoor spider plant, and who knows how many bugs hanging out in my walls. Can't complain about the commute anyway.
@NintendoByNature - Ah, I’ll check the options menu. I usually forget it’s even there. From what I’ve gathered, you have to go to your airport and open the terminal gates if you want visitors. This way, you control when people can visit. If you just want to do a bunch of gathering and crafting, you can leave your gates shut, and people won’t be able to visit. I think I’ll try to make a habit of immediately opening my gates when I’m playing at night without the kids, that way people can visit when they feel like it.
@bimmy-lee Yeah Jack is huge. I’ve seen tons of pics online of folks’ animals ‘coping’ with their family being home all day with them, they’re pretty silly. I’ll be hopping on AC once I wrangle the dogs inside in a few moments. Oh, and the ladder is after you pay off your first loan and ask for an expansion. Keep talking to Tom and say “What should I do?” And also invite other animals from the mystery island, even when there’s no space. I don’t remember what the exact trigger is, but doing those things put me on a path where Tom wanted to invite more people, but wanted me to explore for more land. Hence, the gift of ladder.

@WoomyNNYes Yeah, that's true. Definitely takes some getting used to, but I've got GameCube steering wheels with butterfly pedals on the steering wheel itself, which can be programmed, so they'll act like gas and brake, but I do also manage with the pedals.
@Tyranexx Yeah, I saw that discount article about Hyperlight Drifter as well. Not gonna bite, though...
@bimmy-lee I always likened Animal Crossing to a virtual camping holiday, or a virtual home away from home game, or a cross between the two. Others see it as an elaborate form of Tamagotchi, because of the daily chores, but the difference is of course that your character won't die. It's Nintendo, after all. Either way, I've always liked it, just never had enough time, or found enough time, in between life and playing other games, to stick with them long enough.
I don't feel my gaming taste has changed, either. Just expanded into more genres and/or types. There's just about something in every genre that I play or like, except for the aforementioned dance mat games, but as mentioned, I gave them a fair go...
@Heavyarms55 You're very welcome. I've seen enough crazy stuff going on both over here and around the world, so I kind of feel like it's my moral duty as an older member to keep it together and motivate and/or calm down the people who are a bit more prone to getting overwhelmed. The thing is that it's just a new virus, but in the end, it IS a flu virus, and yes, some will get REALLY sick and some will pass away, but most of us have enough stamina and physical strength to get through it, so unless you suffer from any illnesses or deficiencies, you'll more than likely come out alive at the other end of this pandemic.
On a side note: I think it's probably better that there is no such thing as a reality stone, or any of the other stones, much less a gauntlet with all of them in it, because it would probably corrupt me. In general, I don't speak very highly of mankind, and what we're doing to this planet, so I might just decimate the half of them, like my avatar's name sake did.
I've found that this forum is a very nice, but rather rare place to hang out, where good people from all over the world come together to chat about whatever. In real life, I've not found more than a handful of such people, so most of them don't really interest me. They're either superficial or too extreme in one way or another. I'm always more in favor of various shades of grey, instead of just black or white. Nothing is set in stone, people have more choices than yes or no, or do or don't etc. but nowadays, a lot of them don't seem to understand that anymore. Oh, well...
I've got other things on my mind. Like keeping it together, for my own sanity, mostly, and because I like to keep believing in a positive outcome, no matter how rough the ride is going to be. And we're not quite there yet, but we'll get there, you'll see.
In the mean time, it's long past bed time over here, so I'm off for the day, but tomorrow will be series or movie day, and perhaps I'll even throw in a game or two. Haven't decided yet. And maybe, juuuust maybe, we'll do some shopping, if there aren't too many loonies outside to bother me...

@ThanosReXXX
You have tried a plastic DDR mat for real ?? 😛
What DDR have you tried ?
Btw, playing DDR with Plastic mat and Metal pad will give you very different sensastion.
Plastic DDR mat = Noob, you will get slippery oftenly for difficult songs. I don't play DDR with plastic mat anymore.
Metal DDR mat = Professional, there is a handle bar you can grab. I oftenly play DDR Arcade for better grip and strong platform.
@ThanosReXXX I am scared. But I'm not really scared for my own health. If anything, personally, I'm more worried that if I got sick, it would mean spending a days or weeks bedridden and unable to do the things I enjoy. That would be more annoying than anything else.
What scares me are the risks to my family, especially my mother, grandmother and aunt, all of whom are over 60, 80 and 70 respectively. As well as the damage to the economy. I am coming to the end of my 5 year contract to live and work in Japan. I had a variety of options I was looking at for after this job ends...
And the potential disaster that looming over our heads economically kinda just destroys all of them. The way I see it, my contract is ending at almost the worst possible time. Then again, August, when it ends, could be well past the hurdle. I'm scared because it's so unclear. In 5 months are we going to be facing a global recession or depression with overwhelmed medical systems and tens of thousands or more dead? Or are we going to be on a rebound and looking back saying "thank God summer wiped out the virus and we over-reacted!"?
The one thing I did not expect at this point in my life was so much uncertainty. I thought the issues we'd be worrying about were political and largely things that only indirectly affected my life. I did not expect the economy to be potentially worse than it was when I graduated high school shortly after the '08 '09 recession.
I expected the biggest obstacle to returning to America, if that is what I did, would be reverse culture shock and maybe political arguments.
Now I'm just kinda looking at the future and thinking there's no way I can even guess what's coming next, how can I possibly plan for anything?
I'm just grateful that, at least for the next several months I have a contract that guarantees me a comfortable paycheck and a good reason not to blow extra money running around Japan vacationing when there's talk of a potential Europe/America style virus outbreak here next...

@Anti-Matter I don't know anymore, it was a LONG time ago. And I just tried at a friends house. I wasn't about to buy a metal contraption just to try out a game. But either way: mat or not, dance games are just not for me.
@Heavyarms55 Well, it may sound strange, but at least those two types of being scared are the logical and good ones. All the rest is just panic driven, which is obviously not good.
As for heading for an economical disaster/depression: trust me, neither you nor even me at my age have EVER lived through or seen a REAL depression. Ask your grandparents, if you still have any. They'll be the ones who've witnessed the BIG Wall Street crashes, and economical depressions, due to war and famine. What we're witnessing now, is only a fraction of that misery. So, for me, that kind of puts it in perspective.
Yes, it is VERY annoying and worrisome for the older and less healthy people in our family, but I'm still quite convinced that it isn't going to be the worst thing ever, like some make it out to be. And I am worried as well:
I have a father who's 76, and who's both a diabetic and a Parkinson's patient, and my sister's father in law is in the hospital, diagnosed with Covid-19, and because of that, my sister, her husband and her daughter have now been placed in precautionary lock down/isolation. They weren't tested, simply because there aren't enough tests available, but they are monitored daily, both by their GP and the health department, so if I would allow all of my thoughts about that to bubble to the surface, It could definitely drive me insane, but I refuse to let it, and I'm in regular contact with my sister, over the phone (obviously), and she's pretty calm about it as well, so that helps.
They have minor symptoms, and a slightly elevated temperature, but other than that, they're fine, so I'm definitely not going to allow my thoughts to wonder somewhere that they shouldn't or needn't go...
So, ultimately, I'd say all we can do is sit this one out, and keep a level head. Don't hoard, don't go out of your way to do things that you'd otherwise also would never do, and just take care of yourself by maintaining a good personal hygiene, and by not touching or walking too close next to other people, and you'll do just fine. We'll worry about the economic side of things, once we get to that point. One thing at a time, my friend. Stay safe, and stay sane.
@HobbitGamer - Thank you so much! I was actually missing it then. Looks like I’m a bit behind on Tim Nook requests. I haven’t used that dialogue option with Tom. I just assumed the “what should I do” dialogue was for players who were just lost or otherwise totally confused about what to do.
@NintendoByNature - My schedule and routines are all messed up right now with everyone at home. I didn’t fire up until after 11:00, and, of course, missed you. I did send an invite to you and Hobbit, though I’m not exactly sure what that means. I’ll probably be on every night this week but Thursday, so we’ll meet up soon.
@ThanosReXXX - My tastes have changed quite a bit over the years. Outside of an attempt to expand and try new experiences, I seem to have lost my interest in Metroidvanias. It used to be one of my favorite genres, but now the backtracking drives me crazy. I’ve had Hollow Knight on my Switch for years now, and still haven’t touched it. Part of that could be attributed to the fact that shorter experiences overall are more appealing to me now. Outside of a LOZ game, or something like AC that’s just infinite; I am now less likely to spend money on an epic, lengthy experience because I know I’ll never finish it. When I was younger, a long game was appealing to me because it felt like value, but now I want the same quality of storytelling in a much shorter experience.
