Topic: The Chit-Chat Thread

Had a good chuckle at this one.

Side note: coronavirus related, I'm supposed to be going to Houston for a bachelor party on the 24th of April. Makes me
Wonder how far we'll be by then for me to even go.

One of the divisions from the main building ended up in our large conference room until further notice (part of the social distancing measures). Today, they had someone bring in a pack of Corona (I suspect their manager) for them to close out Second Friday with. While there's a company rule for no drinking on the job, that gets bent a bit on occasion as long as people don't go crazy. Many of the higher-ups know it goes on but don't do anything since it isn't a usual occurrence. (Plus, a few of them partake in it lol)

Pardon the next section, but my patience is wearing a bit thin after a stressful week due to personal reasons (such as the previously mentioned printer trouble) and beyond. Need to get this text out of my head. Any further mentions of this on the site after the following section from me will be referred to as NOPE, and I'll be staying out of the designated thread for the time being.

[BEGINNING OF RANT ON GLOBAL PHENOMENON]
Many people have lost their minds. I understand a lot of the measures being put in place, but some of it seems to be a bit much. I understand limiting public exposure, reinforcing good hygiene habits, and other common sense measures when you're ill or around those who are vulnerable. But the hoarding of random supplies (Buying up water and particularly the TP hoarding are really making me scratch my head) outside of areas that aren't under active quarantine, discrimination of those who are ill or a certain ethnic origin, canceling almost literally everything (And again, some of this makes sense, but...), blaming literally everyone and everything, the full political spectrum taking advantage of peoples' uncertainty and misery....I am, quite bluntly, sick of it all.

I know there are a lot of unknowns with this and that some of the caution is warranted, but some are acting like it's the next plague.

Now if nobody minds, I'm going to spend the rest of my evening cleaning, relaxing, and not paying any more mind to NOPE today.

Enjoy that relaxing cleaning. It’s nice to put things in order after a busy week. I’m about to treat myself to some Live PD and peppered jerky. Oh, and I finished the first episode of Batman. Definitely keep an eye on a sale so far. It’s great, but we’ll have to see how the other episodes hold up. I did already have one major decision that really made me try to think ahead like Bruce.

@HobbitGamer I'd normally clean tomorrow and will likely leave the vacuuming until in the morning at this point. I'll be gone the whole afternoon and evening to a family friend's wedding a little over an hour away. I'm doing many of my weekend computer rounds this evening as it's bill weekend. I'll be heading offline shortly for a nice shower, some Ori (I went a bit exploration-happy yesterday evening and hope to wrap up the story tonight), and a bit of Tolkien. I haven't had many chances to read this week.

Thanks for the TT Batman update! It's sounding more and more like something I'll definitely enjoy when I get around to it. I haven't played many games like visual novels, but I should get some practice in when I play the Ace Attorney Trilogy.

Might fire up Owlboy tonight. Heard it's got of zelda inspiration so that'll be cool. Wanted to start AC:Rogue next, but Owlboy came in today, and I'm pretty excited for it.

Tonight we played Kahoot in the Java programming class. It was fun.

@Vinny "java" are they games for phone ?

@Ninfan Java is a programming language. I had a course for it back in the day. I'm mildly jealous of @Vinny though; we didn't get to create any games in it. Most of the homework assignments had to deal with business scenarios and logic puzzles.

@Tyranexx so it is for them java games that are on small phones like that one bounce and doodle jump, there really good, where can i buy them on the internet, do you know ?

@Tyranexx Nice! I’ve done a bit of my weekend cleaning each day this week so I can try to rebuild the garden this weekend. I’ll be breaking down a bunch of cat litter boxes tomorrow to use as a weed barrier.

I need to finish the Ace Attorney trilogy, as well. Last night I went back to Elevator To The Moon.

@Ninfan If I'm following what you're asking, I'm pretty sure games like that are available on the Apple Store and the Google Play Store, respectively. Not all of those games are programmed in Java, by the way; there are many programming languages out there, though some are out of use and aren't seen often other than with older games and programs.

@Tyranexx Oh no, we didn't create any game in Java, it was just a quiz about what we learned so far, haha. But it was nice.

@HobbitGamer I got a lot of my early yard work out of the way last weekend, minus the tree problem. I expect I'll start mowing in about a week or so. We're getting a blast of cooler weather tomorrow, but after that it's supposed to act like spring again. I need to replant some bulbs, going by what's currently coming out of the ground, but that'll be a fall project.

I'm told I'll like Ace Attorney. I went as far as to grab an imported copy of the trilogy on Switch off of Amazon; it cost about the same or less as if I'd imported it from Amazon Japan or Play Asia. I do like mysteries and detective work, and I think a visual novel setting will be a nice change of pace.

@Vinny Ah, my apologies; I misread your post. XD Overall I liked the course, though I wasn't fond of the IDE we had to use to code in; I much prefer Visual Studio.

I've heard that right now people on YouTube are getting demonetized if they mention Covid-19. And honestly I can't think of why? Like a Star Wars YouTuber I followed had to say "I cancelled my plans this weekend because of that certain global issue that I can't talk about without losing my ad money from this video" and another guy, a Pokemon YouTuber also had to say the same king of thing - he had to cancel his trips to various VGC tournaments that were cancelled but couldn't mention the name of the virus because apparently YouTube punishes you for that.

Maybe it's just a weird rumor and they're being careful?

@ThanosReXXX Even as a coping mechanism we should still be tactful for sure. There are ways to crack jokes that make them obvious jokes, as opposed to just appearing callous and uncaring.

Went grocery shopping today. Forgot to buy cream to make Alfredo sauce. Man, I really don't want to go back to the store and use a debit card terminal touch screen & number pad for the pin. Or open the dair fridge door at the store.

There are known cases in my area, philly burbs.

@Link-Hero That's a gross over-reaction though. It's so picky that people can't say "Because of Covid-19, I am canceling this event" on YouTube without risking their channel or posting a specifically labelled ad-free video.

I understand wanting to avoid misinformation but punishing anyone who mentions it is ridiculous!
