@Woomy_NNYes Watched that video. So, how did we get from dream walking to real life BMX stunt riding again?
As for the stringy kid and his amazing jumps: if you ask me, it isn't all that complicated. It is EXACTLY because he's thin/lightweight that he can get so far into the air. All he needs is enough speed. A heavier person would need more speed to get off the air, or would fall back down earlier, but if you're light of frame, and you've got the right amount of speed, you can travel quite a distance, both horizontal and vertical.
And for the nerds among us: it's basically Einstein's equation.
'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'
@NintendoByNature Exactly! At least I'm no longer wondering how I relocated to the cloudiness of Seattle....
@ThanosReXXX I've typed this before, but I feel like it's even more important now that you're in crunch time: good luck! Sleep as well as you can and keep to meals.
I can definitely relate in the "Things more important than gaming" department too. I'm still in the middle of one process (just did more paperwork for it yesterday) and am hoping to get the ball rolling on something else soon. I'm trying to get these wrapped up before I become significantly busier with yardwork.
The higher you air out of a vert ramp (quarterpipe/halfpipe/bowl), the more strength you need to manage your takeoff. The higher you go, the more airtime you have. The more airtime you have, the more your takeoff errors get amplified. If you ride a bike up the ramp, you don't automatically get air and come back down to catch the transition. It's a strange way of pulling up on your bike. Pull up too softly, and you'll catch a wheel, hang up. If you pull up and away from the ramp too much, you land low on the transition, or on the flat bottom if you're REALLY reckless, or screwed up. The lower you land, the harder your landing is.
It took me years to be able to air 3-4 feet above the deck. Around the time of the video, I was around my prime, or just before, and I could air about 6 ft, which is respectable. I've seen crazy talented people take 3-4 years to get to pro level, and others much longer.
EDIT: and this year is bmx's debut at the 2020 olympics. So, I'm looking forward to that.
@Tyranexx - Haha, that is funny. I’d be like a hobo version of those two. My move would actually be a hoboduken. Seriously though, if I found a genie in a bottle tomorrow, the ability to throw hadoukens is one of my three wishes. That’s a tough break with the super powers fizzling out when people are around. What a letdown! Our brains can be such jerks sometimes. Of all the amazing things you could dream, and your brain settles on THAT. Oh, and the weather was just amazing the last few days. A shame it’s supposed to cool off and get rainy, though I can’t complain too much; it’s been an incredibly mild winter.
@ThanosReXXX - Do you actually die, or wake up right before? I have dreams of things that would typically kill me in real life, but I either survive or wake up before I die. It’s funny that you can’t simply fly away from the unending staircase or treadmill, but then again, where would you go? Unless your also dreaming an environment around the staircase or treadmill, it’s just a void.
So, it appears I’ve missed something. Best of luck with the certification, or new position, or whatever it is that has you studying. I’ll be thinking about you around 9:00 am my time tomorrow and wishing you well.
@ThanosReXXX No prob. I just hope you're better than I am at channeling nerves. I've gotten better about it over time, but butterflies in the stomach still aren't too uncommon.
@NintendoByNature The obligatory late snow usually misses here, but I think we did have a dusting or snow last March....Or it was the year before that.
@bimmy-lee I share that wish with the hadoukens, though I'd also settle for a Kamehameha. There's just something so satisfying about watching someone decimate opponents with a glowing ball of energy.
The powers don't always fizzle out - such as the wall jumping mentioned a page or two back - but more often than not that is what happens. There was a random dream I had a few years ago when I was an in-training member of the X-Men. Surprise, surprise, my given ability for that dream session wouldn't work correctly, so they had to pause the Danger Room simulation. Oh well.
I've never had a dream where I actually was in the process of dying, but I've had one (back in my teenage years, I think) where I had already died. I was a ghost and was watching my family, my own funeral, etc. No one could hear me. I'm blaming that one on a book I've read before. I've also had some where I've suffered a traumatic injury, but the pain is mercifully muted.
Overall, the winter here has been mild temp-wise, though it's also been uncommonly wet. I think November and the first part of December switched places with January and February. Winter came early here, and we had a pretty major snow halfway through December. It was a wet, heavy, deep snow that made clearing my driveway a pain.
@Tyranexx - I’ll settle for a Kamehameha as well. Any chi blast that comes from within. I guess it’s the dreams where your powers don’t work that make the dreams where your powers do work that much sweeter. The XMen/Danger Room dream is very cool, and seeing your own funeral is equally spooky. I very rarely have super focused dreams like that. For the most part, mine are pretty vague, and most people don’t have faces even if I know who they are in my dream.
I bought a gallon of gas for my snowblower and never used it. I’m glad I didn’t mix it, or it would just have been a waste. I shoveled the walkways a few times, but other than that, I don’t think we ever got more than three to four inches in one dump all season. There’s certainly time left for it, but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen.
@Tyranexx we usually always get the late snow 😣. But I'll take a warm March and April if that means a couple cold/snowy days here and there for another few months.
@bimmy-lee
One thing about Kamehameha.
It is actually a Hawaiian King name.
There is also Kamehameha Day in Hawaii. (Not a day we can unleash Kamehameha beam 🤣)
@bimmy-lee@Tyranexx I'm thinking about how disappointing it is when you take that first shovel swipe and discover just how heavy those wet-heavy-snows are
When it's light fluffy snow, I'm always psyched to use my 48 inch wide Snowpusher Lite shovel. It's fun to clear the driveway so quickly & with so few swipes. (you can't really use them with heavier wet snow) https://www.snowpusherlite.com/
I've always wondered if I should have gotten the Snowcaster, the rival shovel shovel with wheels. Neither is cheap. But my Snowpusher Lite does the job (with light fluffy snow). https://www.thesnowcaster.com/
@Woomy_NNYes Well, I'm no BMX expert, so I'll take your word for all that. I was simply doing my version of "The Science Guy", and most of what I said, no scratch that: all of it, still applies. Speed will move mass in any direction, and the less mass, the more the speed will affect its trajectory and/or height. It really is that simple.
@bimmy-lee Thanks, man.
And obviously, I won't hold it against you, what with all your own goings on and/or your back log here in the comments section, but I've actually mentioned me making a career change before, a while back, and in order to be able to do that, I need a certain certificate, and that is what this is all about.
As for the dream accidents: they're largely the same as yours, but I usually jump up or scare myself wide awake immediately after it happens, so I only witness/experience whatever is happening and I don't hang around in the dream for the aftermath. So, for example, I've once dreamed about stepping on a metal plate that was electrified, and the shock of that in my dream woke me up instantly. So that, and tons of variations on that theme. Nothing really visceral or horror like, just accidents. No idea why.
And as for the stairs: in a normal environment, so in a building, or some kind of structure, with people around. I'm not running around on stairs leading nowhere. That's also the frustrating thing about it. Imagine dreaming running up the stairs towards a train platform, because you're about to miss the train, and just about as you're reaching the platform, you're instantly transported back down, to do it all again, and the only thing you can do is watch the train take off.
Or sometimes, as mentioned before, I just seem to stay in one place, running in the middle of the stairs, making no progress whatsoever...
@Tyranexx Well, some nerves are bound to creep in, but I always try to channel them into a healthy dose of tension, so to speak. Tension can be good, because it makes you aware and some kind of acuteness may also enter, but you can't let it take over, because that's when tension turns into nerves, and nerves are kind of a sliding slope.
I'll never say things like "I'm gonna nail this" or "I'll definitely succeed", but I know that aside from the whole rib accident thing and some other goings on that interrupted my studies, I've done most of what I could do, to see to it that I got all the information, or at least most of it, in my head. So, I've done my best under the circumstances, which is all one can do, and that should be enough to at least pass the bar, even if only by the skin of my neck (or is that teeth?). A pass is a pass, I don't need to score an A+ or anything.
@ThanosReXXX Actually, I you are right. That's literally what physics tells us. A skinny, lightweight guy doesn't require as much strength(force) to move as a bulkier heavier person. It's not a magical advantage, but with physics, we know we can quantify it. You're so smart ThanosRexxx (that's a playful, but real compliment)
@ThanosReXXX I mustve missed something. Sounds like you're interviewing or testing. If that's the case, good luck today (unless you already have results). If youre willing to tell us how it goes/went, feel free 😊
@ThanosReXXX A career change? You're not going to be a sales and marketing guy anymore?? Does this mean I'll have to actually respect you as an actual human being now???
Wait, you're not becoming a lawyer are you? Still might be an upgrade though. It would make you at least demihuman.
Or a butcher? What with your skill at portioning ribs and all you'll be a natural!
