I haven't been on here much in a week, because I've been talking to a girl.
@NinFan Yeah, google can be very unhelpful at times. If I search a science topic, I often have to add "site:.edu" to my search words to search academic/college websites.
Whew! Beautiful day here, and it's supposed to be similar tomorrow before some rain moves in during the overnight hours. I think we might be in for an early spring. On one hand, I want warmer weather. On the other, I absolutely hate yard work....I did a bit of tree limb cleanup today, though that didn't take too long. I also have a fallen tree down towards the creek that borders the back of my property to take care of. It'll be bittersweet since it clearly isn't dead...yet.
I decided to take a break from Witcher this weekend, so I’m playing some others. Enjoyed a few rounds of Fortnite, Pocket Camp, and Phoenix Wright.
I’m on the fence about Animal Crossing next month, but after watching the Direct this morning, I’m leaning towards it. How many of you are getting it?

@HobbitGamer I've never played Animal Crossing, but there's a chance the hype might get me to buy it. And, Outer Worlds was scheduled for March 6, but i think Coronavirus delayed that.
I’m getting Animal Crossing because I had positive experiences with the couple of other I tried in the series. The one thing they didn’t talk much about in the direct are how the social interactions with the AI work. I guess it’s better to save that feature as a surprise for the players, but that’s always been my favorite part of these games. You develop connections with the villagers and they remember your hobbies, interests, and certain details of your life.
Is that something that built upon in New Leaf, or is less emphasized than in the earlier games?
@NotTelevision I’m pretty lapsed, only having played AC (at a friend’s)and New Leaf (barely), but I’m willing to grab this since it’s both TV and handheld. Guess that means I’ll have to play it on my regular Switch(?)
I don’t recall the AI remembering much past your birthday and whether you give them gifts or trash in the mail.

@HobbitGamer Yeah we’ll see then. The GameCube AC seemed to have a rudimentary personality algorithm (Do you like to play sports or watch them on TV?) that changed the future interactions with villagers depending on your answers. It would be cool to see what a more complex version of that could result in.
It looks like a wonderful game though. Can’t wait to dive in.
@NotTelevision The weird thing about those is, while they're still embarrassing, most of the time other people in the dream don't seem to notice. Or they just ignore me. It really depends. XD
@HobbitGamer I've never played an Animal Crossing game, but the hype is making me curious. I'm sure it's a game I'd enjoy, but I have a love/hate relationship with similar games. If I do pick up the title, it'll be awhile.
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
My favorite nightmare moment is when you try to scream/shout in-dream, but for some reason your brain is redirecting the sound to your real-life mouth, but since you’re still sleeping you can’t actually do it there either. So you have your dream-you trying to scream/shout with no sound coming out, and your real-you just kinda whimpering sadly.
I enjoy the occasional dream where I’m running super fast and jumping crazy far, sometimes on all four appendages, like a really powerful wolf, and I can use my fingers and toes to grip into anything and just run right up the side of a mountain. I also occasionally dream that I’m trying to run away from something, but I’m basically in slow motion, or running in water, and can’t escape. It’s super frustrating.
@Tyranexx To be honest, I don't know if I'm having endless stair climbing dreams because I've heard of them and seen them in documentaries, or if I'm just having them without being influenced by that, but yeah, it's a thing for me. Mind you, not always. Mostly when I'm trying to run away in a dream. It's kind of like running on a conveyor belt in the opposite direction, only the stairs go faster than I can run, basically either making me run in place or slowly but surely move backwards. From reading @bimmy-lee's comment, I'd say that it isn't all that different from what he's sometimes experiencing.
As for real life pause and rewind buttons: don't get me started. WAY too many moments to choose from, ranging from "I wanna experience that again" to "I should have done this instead" and so on.
@Woomy_NNYes You've been TALKING to a girl? A real life girl? Oh, my...
Sorry, just couldn't resist.
As for Animal Crossing: both you and @Tyranexx may be surprised by how addictive it can get. The thing is that there is no point to the game, and simultaneously, that IS the point: it's almost like a relaxed vacation sim instead of a game. It's tending to your own village and home (edit: AND fellow villagers), like you would tend to a garden or an animal in real life. It's just relaxing and enjoyable, without all the pressures of having to achieve goals, scores, or getting achievements/trophies. There are some of those mechanics in there, but only ever so slightly, because that too, is not the point of the game. It's all just about having a fun time and relaxing, and for some weird reason, this game that is actually not really a game, might very well keep you coming back for more, and then some...
@Anti-Matter So... you want no violence and sex in your games, but once someone makes infantile butt jokes in a game, then it's funny all of a sudden. Hm, I wonder why that is...
@Eel Say what now? What the heck would that be? Scream-ception?
@ThanosReXXX - Yep, the “I want to get away from this but can’t” dream can take any form, but it’s probably brought on by the same real life anxiety, whatever that may be. I have a very similar dream where I’m being attacked and forced to defend myself, but my punches and kicks are super slow and have almost no impact, again, almost as if I’m underwater. Meanwhile, my attacker is just bobbing and weaving and teeing off on me, and I can’t do anything about it. I think it all probably comes from the “I’m Helpless” fear and anxiety file.
Lately I've been playing devil may cry 3 before bed and as I'm falling asleep, I get the feeling of hacking and slashing which actually jolts my body and wakes me up 😂. I guess I just want to be Dante deep down.
@ThanosReXXX
My butt jokes from ACNL was too hilarious. 🤣
I knew it was quite inappropriate, but....
Everytime i read those texts, i couldn't stop laughing.
@bimmy-lee ooh I've had that one before too, and another variety where you try to punch or defend yourself but you have no power behind your movements. I believe it's a similar phenomenon where your body is trying to do these things in real life, but you can't because you're sleeping, so the feeling of powerlessness you feel is that, your lump of an unconscious body being unable to move.
@ThanosReXXX Exactly. I thought talking-to-a-real-life-girl would have been newsworthy on a nerdy nintendo forum I dont know if it's going to go anywhere. I'm ok if it does. She suggested we do something, twice, which coming from a girl, that's supposed to be a strong signal. She's cute and attractive enough, I'm doing what I can not to blow it Did I mention attractive? ....I don't like "hot" girls. I like, deadly cute, and she's that.
@Eel@ThanosRexxx Funny should say that Eel. When I was in college, and obsessed with mogul skiing, living in a dorm (single room with a roommate), I remember waking up in the middle of the night, standing in the dark, in the middle of the room, arm reached out & pointing, saying, "look at this huge mogul". And right then my roommate said, "what the hell are you doing?"
