@NintendoByNature - I may start it tonight. Sounds like a good plan for the weekend, and maybe a little less busy out and about because it’s the day after. Sick kids canceled our plans last year, and the same scenario may just be playing out this year too. My daughter had the dreaded middle of the night bed puke last night, so we’re home today. So far, that’s been the only puking. She just had a purple smoothie, so I’m really hoping those frozen strawberries and blueberries stay down and don’t end up on the carpet. Or the wall. Or the ceiling for that matter.
@bimmy-lee It’s not a great hardship or something like that. Only 44 confirmed cases in this city and no deaths. It’s just a bizarre shift from the normal and everyday. Making the best of the situation. Can’t work for all February so not the worst outcome. Suppose I needed a break. Almost feels like retirement in a way.
@ThanosReXXX It's certainly a gross term, but one that I also feel conveys the meaning very well. XD I just can't fathom how some people can stand touching grimy things like that and doing absolutely nothing about it. The very thought makes me shudder a little.
To add a bit to my previous comment, I only use the T-shirt approach on devices/controllers with shiny surfaces. It really alleviates my OCD.
On Valentine's Day: I am aware of St. Valentine and have no problem with the holiday for that reason. Nor do I have an issue with couples using it as an excuse to hang out and get away from any responsibilities for a short time period. My main thing is how commercial, generic, and overly mushy it is. I'm in the minority of females who finds cliched fairy tale romance hard to stomach.
Now Discount Chocolate Day, on the other hand....
@NotTelevision Good luck! I've seen a few pictures. Definitely very post-apocalyptic in nature, but I also understand the precautions being taken. It sort of reminds me of an old flash game I used to occasionally play called Pandemic....

@bimmy-lee And let's not forget about moms bursting into the room, being all nice and caring, wanting to bring in drinks and snacks, only to be shouted at with a "don't step on the controller cords" and/or "hey, don't stand in front of the screen"...
I think that a big part of the good times/memories is couch co-op, and instantly being able to elbow your friend next to you, or give them a look full of satanic glee, something that online multiplayer severely lacks. And of course, the somewhat simpler, and less rushed times. Nowadays, people already find it hard to keep a promise to make time to call each other, let alone free up some time to play games together. Of course, our careers also have something to do with that, but still. I personally do feel that the changing times are a big factor in all of this.
It's probably also the reason for my ever-growing back log...
@NotTelevision Well, at the very least it does prove the fact that you don't really need a 102" 8K TV to still be able to be deadly accurate in finishing off your friends...
And also not to still be able to have tons of fun. But yeah, that probably won't go down all too well,
I suppose.
The performance was never an issue for me. That's something a lot of us only noticed in hindsight, compared to better tech and newer systems, but back then, we either didn't even notice, or it was just considered to be part of the experience.
Some of us had read about it in the magazines, obviously, but we were never really bothered by it all that much, seeing as we were too busy having fun, which is SO much more important than counting pixels and frame rates...

@Tyranexx Well, if skin oils and particles, sweat and dust and/or dirt particles are the ingredients for cheese, then I think I'll pass... 🤮
As for the being too clean part: I suppose the shirt thing is probably a bit too much for most people.
I usually just wash my hands before handling anything, whether that be in the kitchen or simply playing games, so it's clean hands on controllers only. I don't care much about finger prints or dust in the moment of usage.
And as for Valentine's Day: I like the idea and the origins, but I couldn't care less about the whole commercialized version of it, so I've never actively participated in it, nor have I ever received anything, for that matter, because the people in my family and circle of friends largely feel the same way. We just give gifts or tell each other we care whenever WE want, not when a supposed festive day tells us to...
@bimmy-lee ah I know how that goes. Poor thing. Hope she feels better. Just put tarp down all over the house..if She doesn't end up throwing up. Poor some water on it and you can make an in-house slip n slide. @thanosrexxx I had a long text typed up to you but It got deleted. So I read it, and liked it, fyi.
@ThanosReXXX I agree with you on that one. Everybody was so locked into the experience that no one noticed that stuff.
There is actually a lot of things AAA games can learn from Goldeneye. The amount of content was amazing. A robust single player experience with level objectives you can tackle in many of ways, an additional level, and a large range of classic Bond characters and modes available for multiplayer, etc... A lot of that would be DLC now. We had it good actually. 🤔
@Tyranxx Thanks. Pandemic is new to me. Sounds interesting from what I read about it. Used to play one on the phone called Plague Inc., but I’m not sure if that one is still on there.
Its not that dire in this part of China, but it’s weird how the streets feel both simultaneously peaceful and unnerving walking around in the quiet. It’s usually anything but quiet. But I have friends and things to occupy my time, so not much to worry about really. Just wash your hands and take some precautions while you’re out.
@NintendoByNature No Firefox, or were you on a smart phone? Otherwise, you'd have a back button option, that would take you back to at least part of the text that you'd already typed. Happens to me every so often as well, so I'm damn glad Firefox has this "in-between text save" option...
Either way: did I miss anything else, or was that you liked it the gist of it? I'm always interested to read about other people's findings/opinions. Especially those of the people that I actually appreciate...

@NotTelevision That's probably also the reason why there's still so many mods and remakes online.
Barring all the license confusion, or rather: BS, there's never really going to be another official outing of this game, that might take care of all these technical issues, to give us some kind of director's cut.
So, people in the PC gaming community come up with stuff like this:
(more info about that third one here)

@ThanosReXXX The fingerprint aversion gradually developed with my OG 3DS; it got to where I disliked doing a dry wipe-down after every session, because dang were those surfaces fingerprint magnets. I'm gradually trying to cut myself off from the practice - I've noticed it's only an issue I have with newer handhelds with screens, barring the Switch as I play docked most of the time - but it's been more difficult than I thought. It manifested at a period in my life when my anxiety was quite high, so I think it's a leftover effect/habit from that. Funnily enough I have little issue with external controllers like detached joycons and various Wii/Wii U remotes I own.
We seem in agreement about V-Day for the most part; I personally have no need to set aside a certain day to express my affection to others when I try to do it at many other points in the year.

@NotTelevision I'm one who likes peace and quiet. In fact, if I didn't know about the unfortunate reason why everyone is confined indoors, I'd probably enjoy it. I'm used to a little background noise these days from where I currently live, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the cacophony of a busy city. It's quite a change when you grow up in the woods with little noise barring the occasional tractor and noises from the neighbor's semi truck when they had to haul something.
I'm quite used to train noises though. I grew up several miles from the closest track, but the sound traveled through the trees. I'm fairly close to one these days.

@ThanosReXXX While I'm glad that some people do follow those through, more often than not they're too broad. At least from what I've observed. I often don't bother with them, but there are a couple of things I wanna check off of my adulting checklist over the next few months.

@NotTelevision - Yeah, you’re basically on an at home vacation. May as well chip away at the media backlog. I’m sure it’s weird seeing the town you’re in on lockdown though. Seems like it would be at least.
@ThanosReXXX - Four cords connected to the front of the machine was madness. There were cords everywhere, wrapped around everything. Before I bought mine, I played at a friend’s house for a while in high school. He had a big, dumb, wild dog, and that thing yanked the 64 right out of the cabinet multiple by trampling through the cord jungle like a bull in a china shop. We used to play Kart64 six to eight people deep in a tiny dorm room in college, and just passing the stick if you lost usually resulted in the cord knocking 10 different beverages over, dumping the ash tray, and spilling the water out of the water... vase. It was so fun though.
@NintendoByNature - We’ve rebounded nicely here. Full breakfast and lunch without further incident. The tarp is at the ready just in case.
@Tyranexx I meant to say that I treat them in the exact same way as the whole Valentine's Day thing: I don't need a specific day in a year to decide to do something, and I kind of always shake my head concerning people that need that excuse to do something to better their lives or whatever, because you should just do it whenever, NOT because it's the end of the year and the new year needs to be better or something. More often than not, New Year's resolutions are also not followed through, or successful, especially with things like losing weight and/or getting in shape. At least not in the long run.
@NintendoByNature Yeah, the wiki page certainly covered most of it, so it was probably also the handiest one,
I guess. I did like the second one as well, though. Even if the practice itself wasn't even remotely funny, I did have to grin at the part where it explained how the Romans were literally hitting on women, which is probably also where that expression comes from, so aside from the whole Valentine's Day explanation, that was actually a nice bit of additional trivia. Well, in my opinion at least.
@bimmy-lee And then swapping controllers sometimes, crossing/entangling the cords and what not. We've had the occasional controller being unplugged during play, due to some slightly too enthusiastic movement of players...
And yet, like you mentioned, throughout all its shortcomings and hindrances, it was still SO much fun to do multiplayer that way.
@ThanosReXXX I generally agree that you shouldn't decide to do X thing on a certain day of the year. The improvements I've hinted at have been planned for a little while. I just now have the financial means to accomplish some of them at least.
Resolutions do sometimes work for some people - more power to them - but I don't think deciding to push for some goals on Jan 1st makes the whole thing more magical.
Currently playing: Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy (Switch)
@NintendoByNature Well, it's either that or cavemen reportedly having clubbed their future spouses and then dragging them to their caves, but unfortunately, documentation about that prehistoric rumor is rather absent...
@Tyranexx Don't get me wrong, if people need a date to stick to something, or focus on a goal, that's good in and of itself, and it can be of help, but I just don't think that it HAS to be the 1st of January. Want to get in shape? Do it now, don't wait another couple of months, and don't make excuses about how you're going to stuff your face with so much food during the holidays, that it isn't going to be any use anyway...
But in your particular case, I can understand. And sometimes means and dates just happen to fall in line, and that may very well be the 1st of January. Long as it isn't a generic New Year's resolution, it's just fine.
@ThanosReXXX Why do I still find the stereotypical "caveman clubs future mate" approach so hilarious?
Right, people use resolutions as an excuse to put something off. "I'll do it...just give me a couple months." Nope, there's nothing wrong with starting now, unless something is time-sensitive or not available yet.
Funnily enough, I started on some of my lifestyle changes near New Year's a couple years ago, but I actually started setting the changes in motion that preceding December.
