@BougieBeetle - My maternal grandpa died at the same age under the same circumstances earlier this year. Bittersweet I tell ya. They’re a nearly extinct breed. No man a generation or more younger will ever be a man like those men. Cheers.
Your co host has been the weak link so far in our travels through SMB as he’s a self professed Sega guy. If he has the goods, I suppose he needs a moment to shine in a Sonic game of his choosing, but preferably the original for the general continuity of the pod. If not, SMB2 is the natural next step, and that game is chock full of interesting tidbits and lore for a pod series. Personally, it’s my favorite 2D SMB game.
I guess it depends on whether you want to be Nintendo centric or open it up to an exploration of all games.
Seriously, the stuff those guys lived through is incredible. We won't see their like again.
My co-host Aaron definitely didn't have as much experience with the Mario franchise, but I have fun telling him all the history and lore stories! He edits all the episodes, so his role behind the scenes is pretty critical. SMB2 is definitely coming at some point, but we want to take a break from Mario first. Non-Nintendo franchises are definitely possible. We've talked about Mega Man, Castlevania, Star Fox, and DOOM as other potential candidates. Personally I'd like to do Sonic 1, but we'll probably leave it up to a vote.
@HobbitGamer That's true, but I feel like that one can also sometimes go too far. I've seen many discussions get cut short because someone says "How about we just accept that everyone has different taste and opinions?". If I wanted to sit here and not discuss my opinion, then I'd just not post. As long as things don't get toxic, I enjoy talking about why I hold certain opinions and occasionally challenging people on theirs.
@RedderRugfish Well, I get what you're saying there, but to be perfectly honest, sometimes agreeing to disagree, or indeed accepting that people have different opinions than yours, is better than having a useless discussion between two people trying to force their opinion on each other...
@Tyranexx Of course I didn't mean literally set in stone, but virtually, seeing as I mentioned it being on a website. As some kind of permanent header/banner or something. That would be too much, in my opinion.
As for the fancy dress thing: so, you rent clothes then, seeing as you don't own any fancy dresses?
Back in my office days, they always had this "funny" explanation for the necktie men needed to wear at work, and/or official occasions:
"Men have a brain and a p...., but only enough blood to use either one or the other, so the necktie is necessary to prevent the blood from leaving the brain".
It more or less references men's inability to multi-task.
@Anti-Matter If the title of a song is already clearly visible in the video's picture, then it's pretty useless and/or dumb to add a spoiler tag mentioning what the name of the song is.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you NLife's winner in the categories of "we didn't really think through how this would look on the actual web page" and "Nintendo Life's funniest article title cut-offs":
'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'
@ThanosReXXX - I have a bad habit of just skimming headlines. So you’re saying I can remove my drifting joy con? It hasn’t been very comfortable, and it also doesn’t seem to be helping my drift issue AT ALL.
@BougieBeetle - “Weak link” was an overly strong way to go about that, and not really what I meant. It’s just clear that SMB is a new experience for him, and it’s put you in the driver’s seat as far as delivering interesting information. I do enjoy that dynamic though. I was kind of under the assumption everyone has played SMB a few times. Even grandmas and babies. I agree though, Sonic would make a great series.
Welp I'm back. So Pro: North American Taiko Conference was phenomenal. And Kenny Endo signed my bachi!!!! I have like 30 pages of notes and diagrams. The concerts were awe inspiring.
Con: I spent way too much money. I may have an ear infection since my ear is still plugged from the flight.
Taiko is good for the soul, Hoisa!

Ughhhh. Another healthcare provider tripped a Medicaid fraud alert for “allegedly” billing for an individual at the same time my agency has been providing services. So I’ve got to spend my day dealing with state OIG reports and gathering documentation.

@bimmy-lee Well, you don't have to be so anal about it...
@NEStalgia A fitting purpose for HD Rumble, surely, and adding a completely new meaning to the word JoyCon.
Maybe a new idea for a triple X/adult version of 1-2 Switch...

I'm sure Aaron played it a little when he was a kid, but certainly not obsessively like me! I already knew a lot of the information going into it, but I did quite a bit of research. I read David Scheff's Game Over in particular, as well as lots of Super Mario Wiki entries for the lore, lol.
The dynamic is sort of like the partnership between the play-by-play guy and the color commentary guy in sports announcing. It's something I've noticed other successful pods doing and it's a formula that I think works well!
@NEStalgia Nah, that's just Japanese hentai weirdness. I meant a game in which you don't use the screen, other than as a tiny speaker/display to know when the off-screen game starts. And then just come up with adult versions of the various 1-2 Switch games on offer.
Waterproof silicone sleeves for the JoyCon controllers included in the package...
